Dianne Brill Fresh Water Pearl Foundation. - A Lovely Gem!

image from diannebrill.com

I used to be a foundation hoor. I had bottles and bottles of foundations. I was never satisfied with any of them. Then I finally discovered 3 excellent liquid foundations. Vincent Longo Healthy Skin Fluid in Soft Matte and Carmindy for Sally Hansen and Make Up For Ever Face & Body foundation. I loved all 3 for 3 different reasons but I decided to switch to a powder foundation for the summer. My oily skin, cream foundation and the humidity in my area do not make a good combination for staying power. Well, the seasons started to change and I found myself looking at liquid foundations again. I happened upon a blog by the name of Best Face Forward. Her wonderful description convinced me to find some Dianne Brill Fresh Water Pearl Foundation.

Who is Dianne Brill you ask? Well according to her website, diannebrill.com :
Dianne Brill has risen to prominence as a celebrity and social magnet, giving her the title of New York's legendary 'Queen of the Night.' A reigning pop icon, Dianne's many talents surfaced as a result of her celebrity - best selling author, model, muse, TV commentator, actress, New York's social party whirlwind-the original 'It Girl'.
Uh huh. I think that translates in to a self promoter with no particular claim to fame other than being seen at the "right parties" and looking the "right way". Whatever. It makes no difference to me. I like her products!

For the record I had tried this very foundation during my hooring days of foundation indulgence but the color match was just a bit too dark. Best Face Forward blog informed me that Ms. Bill had come out with some new, lighter shades! I did a search on ebay because there was no local store that sold Dianne Brill cosmetics and I was certainly not going to pay $50-$65 which is what they charge on Beautyhabit.com Don't ask me why some of the foundations are $50 while others are $65, I have no idea. After several weeks of searching I finally found some items up for bid on ebay and bid I did. I won all my auctions and I walked away with a brand new in box Dianne Brill foundation for the low price of $10.79! Whoot! A bargain at twice the price!
I got the foundation in Champagne Pearl. The packaging is adorable! It comes in a little box with frilly lacy paper protecting the foundation and the foundation brush! Ms. Brill's whole concept is Lingerie. Face Lingerie, Lip Lingerie, Eye Lingerie and Lash Lingerie. The items are packaged as bon bons (Her potted glosses) or as Cigars (Her lip pencils) or Lace wrapped lingerie (The foundation).
The color match for me is perfect...maybe a tad yellow on my neck, but any lighter and I might look like I'm wearing a mask. Dianne Brill has not updated her own website with the new colors! But beautyhabit.com has the new colors listed. Go figure. The color names are
Baby Pearl Ring (This is the one I had before. I think it would be better suited for a MAC NC25)
Pearl Cuff
Pearl Earring
Pearl Pin
Strands Of Pearls
Chandelier Pearl*
Geisha Pearl*
Twisted Pearl*
Diamonds and Pearls*
Royal Pearl*
Venus Pearl*
Champagne Pearl* (This is the one i got. I'm a MAC NC20)
* Denotes new colors and/or colors not found on Dianne Brill's website.

This is a medium to full coverage foundation. The consistency is liquid. Very liquid. It comes in a squeeze tube and has a foundation brush that goes along with it. I love the consistency as it is easy to spread and blends easily BUT you have to work in one section at a time because the foundation dries very quickly and sets up very fast. I have been wearing this foundation for 3 straight weeks now. I have used different methods of application and while the little foundation brush is included I find it useless as it leaves a streaky mess on my face. I tried applying with my MAC 187 skunk brush but that too didn't provide the right application and coverage. Finally I used my clean fingertips and found this was the best way to get even coverage. Most important, a little goes a long way. I would say I use a little more than 1/8 of a teaspoon for my entire face. I was using more and I found I had so much left over after applying, or that I was getting more coverage than I needed. Thankfully you can layer the foundation without it looking cakey. Best part is that it lasts all day. It's amazing!

A major con, is that the foundation is scented heavily. Heavily with a perfume of vanilla and something. I can't quite place it but it is overwhelming with vanilla. Those that don't like scented products will hate this. It's strong and it does not fade quickly. I swear 2 hours after applying this foundation I can still smell it...faintly.

Would I buy this again. Yes/Maybe. I say "Maybe" only because of the outrageous price. I say "Yes" because it's a very, very nice foundation. Yes, if I see it again on ebay I'll snatch it up again. Since I do have so many foundations and I am fortunate enough to have found some that already work for me I'm not in a hurry to buy this if I run out. Fortunately I only use a little for each application so I don't see myself running out any time soon!
Should you buy this? Yes, if you need a foundation that sets and lasts all day, if you don't mind scented products and if you have combination skin or oily skin. I think dry skin might not like this foundation too much.

This product did not break me out. Not one bit. I had no bad reaction to it and if you are acne prone or have sensitive skin, I have included the ingredients below, so you can see if there is something in there that irritates your skin.
