LLLL = Lovely Long Lasting Lips with Chanel Rouge Double Intensité

I love alliteration. Alliteration is the commencement of two or more words of a word group with the same letter, as in :
"She sells sea shells by the seashore"
"Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers"
"Lovely long lasting lips"
Chanel Rouge Double Intensité Ultra Wear Lip Color brings alliteration poetry to my lips!

I'm impressed. I wasn't at first. I purchased this months ago and used it twice. I decided I would return it although the color was nice, the wear was icky, it kept pilling up on me, felt flaky (even with the gloss top coat) and it seemed awfully expensive ($32 USD) for something that I can get the same results with from a drugstore product. Unfortunately, I lost the receipt and procrastinated about returning it for store credit. Bummer!

The other day, while cleaning up the bathroom after my dog Artie went on a rampage with the trashcan....have I mentioned Artie before?

No I haven't. That's because Artie, as cute as he is, is Major Destructo in my home. He loves to eat paper products, paper towels, kleenex, cotton pads, newspaper, etc. He also like to eat chairs. Here is a picture of his most spectacular work:

The worried looking dog in the bottom corner is a good boy and does nothing wrong, but always seems to feel guilty when Artie is punished for being a bad boy. I digress. Thankfully I love Artie or else he would be out on the street!

So while cleaning up, I happened upon the Chanel Rouge Double Intensité, I decided to give it another go. This time I put it on without any balm or makeup on my lips. You see, I always seem to have some sort of powder or foundation transfer on my lips when I apply lipstick first thing in the morning. This time it was the evening. I had washed all my makeup off and I was about to hop in the shower. I thought; what better way to test the "long wearingness" (not a word. I know) of this product than to take a shower and eat dinner with it! Let me tell you. It was going strong after the shower and after dinner, the gloss top coat was gone but the color was still there perfect as ever. No pilling, no awful feel. It was fabulous! It was a keeper!

The trick to this product is to make sure your lips are completely clean. Apply the color and wait for it to dry a bit before putting on the gloss top coat. You should reapply the gloss top coat only when it is all gone that way you don't get buildup.

What makes this product different than drugstore bands? Well I think it's the quality. It does not dry out my lip when the gloss coat is gone, it does not flake or wear off unevenly. It lasts for a good 5 to 8 hours (minus eating) and it applies evenly. The color choices are limited, but very unique. Most important, the wear is so much nicer and better than anything I have purchased on the cheap. The gloss top coat isn't sticky at all. It's almost moisturizing and feels nothing like the Chanel Glossimer texture. In fact, you hardly feel it on your lips. It's like having perfect moisturized lips without a sticky, greasy, gloopy feel. I also like the fact that the color is a doe foot applicator and the clear top coat is a brush applicator. I loves me some brush applicators, yo!
As for the color - I purchased Pink Diamond. It's a berry color, but not overly cool...however it does have some sort of blue duochrome in the tube but it does not show up on the lips.

I am a bit bummed about the price $32 USD. Heck I could get a ton of Drugstore long wear lip products for that money....But I only need one or two of these gems! The colored part of the product does have a strange vanilla/chemical scent to it, but it's only slight and it fades. Once you have the top clear gloss the scent should disappear. The packaging is OK but the tube for the clear top coat is black and I cannot see how much product remains, so that is kind of annoying.
I am writing this review after eating a bagel w/ butter and hot tea for breakfast and I have only needed to reapply the clear gloss top coat as the color still looks as fresh as when I applied it this morning. I would definitely repurchase and I plan to get other colors as well. I also plan to put Artie on prozac...but that's for another blog. Perhaps my next contest will be for a free dog!
