MAC Mineralized Earthly Riches - A purple taupe, but I'm not in love
So is it an addition to the Taupe eye shadow family if 1/2 of the shadow is purple. Heck Yeah it is!
MAC Mineralized eyeshadow in Earthly Riches is this Pink Sith's newest addition to her taupe family.
"But Wait!" you say
"There is no taupe in that eyeshadow pot? All I see is gray, pink and purple."
I would answer.
"Correct my not scrolling down friend."
But scroll down and you will see that upon mixing the three, a beautiful taupe can be seen! That's almost poetry!
Oh sure. Some people don't like the texture of the MAC Mineralized eye shadows but then again, some people don't like to spritz their eyeshadow brush with a little bit of MAC Fix+ or Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs & Rosewater and then pick up that color from the shadow and pat, pat pat on their eye lid. Those people we call words like:
Yeah. it's kind of a pain in the butt to apply, especially if you apply it dry and don't expect some fall out. But a really good eye shadow base (MAC Paints. Paint Pots, Too Faced shadow Insurance, etc) applied correctly and then apply the eye shadow while the base is still tacky, will get you past the fall out issue.
So here are 2 looks I did w/ the MAC Earthy Riches shadow.
This one, I took a dry brush and brought up a lot of powder from the silver/pink side and tapped off the excess into the plastic cover. Then I spritzed my brush with a healthy Dose of Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs & Rosewater and collected the powder from the cover. I patted the color onto my eyelid and let it dried. Once dry I used a dry brush and blended out any creases. I added Bobbi Brown Black Mauve Shimmer ink on the top lid and Guerlain Oriental Metal Kohl for the waterline and finished with Shu Uemura The Basic Mascara and Maybelline Colossal Volume Mascara layered over it.
For the second look, I used the purple shade on the bottom lid and then the taupe shade above and blended the 2 together. I highlighted w/ Paul & Joe Rose Dragee face powder, lined the top lid with Chanel Ecriture de Chanel in Noir and the waterline with MAC Fluidliner in Blacktrack. I finished it up with Shu Uemura The Basic Mascara and Maybelline Colossal Volume Mascara layered over it.
Do I love this shadow?
Do I like it?
Maybe. It's OK.
It sure does swatch better than it applies to the eye and that isn't so great. but I like the purple-y taupe-y color the 1/2 of the shadows gives, so I'll use it for smokey eyes for when I'm in a hurry...but I don't expect to be using this one a lot.
It's OK. It is a limited edition shade that is discontinued and I only found it at a local Cosmetics Company Outlet. No love lost really.
I think some outside factors contributed to my sour attitude about this shadow. I have since changed my mind and DO like this little duo. It's unique in coloring (I don't have many plums/purples) and I do like the fact that it will probably last me the rest of my life...it's huge! And hey. after all it is taupe!
Note to self. Do not express opinions about eyeshadow while wearing a peel off mask that rips out all your skin & hair and do not write a review after you manage to knock an entire bottle of DuWop Payoff Eyeshadow Intensifier down the bathroom sink. Bye Bye $17!!
