Seikisho Mask White - Ouch!

image from kose-usa.com

I got this Seikisho Mask White by Kose in a recent skincare order. I didn't have a peel off mask in my arsenal of masks and I figured this one from Kose would be a nice addition. Seikisho is from Kose-USA. Kose is slowly branching out to the US and the few products they have for skin care are decent. This peel off mask is by far not my favorite.

So apparently Seikisho claims that this mask will unclog pores to help reduce blackheads, increase clarity and add radiance to your skin, remove dirt and impurities to thoroughly clean skin and enhance translucency of your skin.

OK. True & False time
Unclog Pores = Not entirely.
Increase Clarity = Um No.
Thoroughly Clean Skin = Nope.
Enhance Translucency of Skin = ??

What does this do?
It pulls all the tiny minuscule hairs from your face as you slowly peel the mask off your face.
Done & done.

No blackheads, No radiant skin, no translucency, but my skin was smoother after use....but that could be because all the fine hairs on my face along with the first layer of my skin was removed when I peeled this mask off. There really is no telling.

The mask claims that is adheres closely to the skin surface and lifts away dullness with a mild tingling sensation. No tingling sensation unless you count the feeling of having every hair removed from your face slowly...like slowly removing a day old band-aid. The irony is that this gooey, black mask claims to whiten and brighten skin when my main result is red skin. Smooth but red.

Another problem with this product is the mess factor. It is REALLY messy as most peel off masks are but even with careful application my fingers are a mess and it's impossible to wash off. So be prepared to have black hands during and after the application.

The application is a bit tricky. It spreads inconsistently and if it's too thin, it will dry up before the rest of the mask and make it hard to peel off. Plus small bubbles form under the mask and it seems like it's not picking up anything from my skin. Oh and by the way, make sure you avoid your eyebrows and hair line. The mask wont necessarily remove them but it won't be easy to get the mask off your hair either.

The mask is heavily scented. It's almost a fabric softener dryer sheet smell. OK. I admit I like that smell and it does dissipate after a few minutes. The mask itself takes almost 20 minutes to fully dry...so have some free time (like the time it takes to write a review on a peel off mask, for example) to really let this mask dry because removing it before it's dry is a total pain in the butt.

As you can see from the ingredients below this mask has Alcohol listed as it's 2nd and 3rd ingredient. Those with dry or sensitive skin are urged to stay away from this mask. (Not by the manufacturer, but by me)

Will I buy it again?
Heck no.

But I love facial masks so expect to see more reviews in the future on other ones.
So is it just me? Has anyone else tried this mask and had a good experience? if so, please share your thoughts. It will be helpful for people to hear more information.
Anyone here love/hate peel off masks?

  1. Its black!!! I could see me getting into a right mess with this stuff. You may have just saved my bacon!

    I am steering clear.

Have you tried bliss masks? I like steep clean.

I do want a peel off one too though, they are such fun!

  2. I think someone on Blogdorf Goodman reviewed this mask positively... but I'm not 100% sure. I haven't tried a peel off mask since I was a teen. I do like this trend in black/dark facial treatments (like the MAC VAE as well)- they look much cooler on the face! You look adorable in that pic.

And if you haven't checked your MUA mail yet- thank you, thank you thank you!! :-D

  3. Is this cheaper than facial threading? *Ponders the 5 stubborn sea hags on her chin*

  4. That is the exact way I feel about this product! I received a sample of it from BBW. It was a mess to put on, a mess to take off, a mess to clean up and stripped me of my epidermis. Just a bad idea, and I felt like I was spreading tar on my face. Never an endearing thing.

  5. Wow -- you did your whole face in the mask -- I use my Naris Up Carbon/Egg Peel mask just on my nose and chin to get rid of black heads... and my nose turns red from the peel-off

I love my naris up, but i dont think i'll do my entire face... peel masks ... i either love them or hate them (majority of them make my face itch after for some reason)

    great entry tho girl!!

  6. Unrelated to face masks, but I just got an email that the Beauty Closet is doing free shipping for the rest of October with code 'freeship' - not sure if you have to already have an account? Just wanted to share the temptation! :-)

  7. I actually really like this mask. I have combination skin that needs a lot of exfoliation and this mask does a good job. I dont feel like it dries too fast at all and it is easy to get a nice even layer. Since the mask isn't drippy it is possible to apply it without making a mess. I also find that it washes off my hands easily. Perhaps you either got a bad batch or this has something to do with hard/soft water. The product works much like the biore pore strips so yes it will help unclog some pores. I definately do not recommend it for people with dry skin, but if you have oily skin it should work for you

  8. I could not agree more!! I tried this mask from a sample packet. Peeling the mask off was super painful and I was left with very red skin afterwards.

  9. glow chaser: I know. I love black masks! I haven't tried steep clean yet. Maybe I'll look into it. I love peel off masks too. MARK by Avon had this tomato one that was awesome but I can't find it anymore. :-(

Valerie: A) Stop posting discounts for beautyhabit.com when I'm on a no buy. Naughty Girl!! lol B) I do remember the positive review from Blogdorfgoodman. TY for reminding me! And you are welcome!

Sarita: If only. However the 2nd time I used the mask none of those fine hairs came off...but perhaps there wasn't enough time between uses for the hair to grow back b/c the 3rd time I used it. Ouchie again...and bye bye hair!

/lachesis: So it's not just me? At least this smells MUCH better than actual tar!

Kimberly tia: When I go in baby, I go ALL IN. yeah. usually do my t-zone for peel off masks and such but this one claims brightening and well I wanted to see how my whole face did...plus my skin has been congested lately. Not enough exfoliation I think.

Anonymous 1: Oh Good! I'm glad it works for you. I think I must be peel off mask challenged. or perhaps my skin was too dry before I out it on. Maybe I should have done a steam before applying. I'm really glad to hear you had good results with it. Thank you very much for posting your experience!

Anonymous 2: Sorry to hear you had a bad run with this as well. I think peel off masks are a tricky item. There is definitely a love it or hate it thing going on.
