Purchase - NYX single eye shadow in Dune - The latest addition to the PinkSith taupe family

I thought it might be nice to review a taupe eye shadow that is not only still available but affordable. Why? Well because I have about 2-3 reviews of very hard to find and/or expensive Taupe eye shadows coming up and I thought I might throw you a bone. MUWAHAHAHA. I am a taupe eye shadow fiend. While I could be a sadist by posting pictures of Shu Uemura ME Silver 945 and Chanel Vega, making you wonder what cruel twist of fate made you unable to partake in their taupe-y beauty because they have been discontinued, I do have a soft side for you dear reader, I have found a lovely silver taupe that is within your grasp.
::Politely pauses for applause and cheers to die down::

OK. Now that’s out of the way.

NYX Single eye shadows are surprisingly well pigmented for being a fairly low end brand of cosmetics…mind you I am not saying “Low End” in a derogatory way. It’s Low End as in cost…which is ALWAYS good! Yup. $5 is all the single eye shadow costs. $5! Can you believe it? How awesome is that? Oh did I mention that NYX has about 160 different shades of which 8 to10 of them are taupe eye shadows? How cool!

How did I decide on Dune? Well I could have gone for the obvious choices like Iced Mocha, Beanie and Root Beer, (Brown almost plumy taupes) but Dune was calling my name. It wasn’t brown, it wasn’t grey, it wasn’t warm it wasn’t cool. It wasn’t necessarily taupe but it was. Does that make any sense? No. I know it doesn’t. Dune is a silvery, gray, taupe. It’s classified as a “Metallic” shade by NYX which the company defines as “Bold colors with intense shimmer.” I’m all for bold.

How does it apply? Well it’s a little powdery. It’s not crumbly or hard but it’s not necessarily soft or silky. It’s above average and I would definitely buy more of this brand. It’s highly pigmented and a little goes a long, long way. It wears extremely well and the color did not crease…although I wear an eye shadow base so I can’t say if it will crease without a base, but you should wear a base anyway. So there! It’s also a hefty 3g/0.11oz, compared to MAC 1.5g/0.05oz. [edit] It’s a steal!

So run, do not walk to your local store that carries NYX…What’s that? You don’t know where to buy it?

Well go to the NYX website (Turn down your speakers as there is annoying music the starts to play the second you get there. The music shouts “Oh Hai Cow-workers. Yes! I do have a nightclub in my office!”)
Or to Cherryculture.com
Or to NonpareilBoutique.com
I purchased my NYX eye shadow at a perfume outlet in an outlet mall but you can also find NYX at certain Ulta stores. Last but not least you can always click on the “Store Locator” link on the main NYX “Hey I’m shopping at work and everyone in the cubicle farm can hear it” website.

Here I compared NYX Dune to my Pout Miss Canada and Laneige Gold Khaki eye shadow. NYX Dune looks like the love child of those 2 shadows

Here is an eye of the day using dune all over the bottom lid to slightly above the crease, BECCA Chantilly eye shadow above the crease and blended into the NYX Dune, Koji Line queen liner and a terribly applied Shu Uemura The Basic Mascara and Maybelline Colossal Volume Mascara. Note the lack of curl and clumpy lashes. Not my best effort.

  4. Jojoba: That's all in the Koji Line Queen liner. I have awful skills w/ a liner and this stuff is mistake proof.

Anon: GAH. MATH FAIL. Thanks for pointing that out. :-) I fixed it!

Ivr: TY for the compliment. I get my brows threaded at The Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salon in Reston, VA. Then I do maintenance in between visits. I also use a brow powder by Anastasia.
