Purchase - Bourjois Brun Nylon - Tedious Taupe

Bourjois recently pulled out of Sephora but you can still find it in Ulta. It's a mid to low end cosmetics company with a few decent items. The baked blushes are nice and some of the mascara formulas are supposed to be good too. I'm not a huge fan of Bourjois cosmetics simply because I heard a rumor long long ago that Bourjois was the equivalent of Wet N Wild cosmetics to Europe. Basically I felt silly paying $11 for an item that I could get for $2 in the drugstore. But when a friend told me about a taupe eye shadow that Bourjois had, I decided to overlook my snobbery and seek it out.

Nylon #09. It was taupe...but bordering to dangerously close to beige I hesitated before buying it. But my mind was made up when the announcement that On a quick trip to Ulta one day I finally found the Bourjois Ombre Stretch Eyeshadow in BrunUlta was closing for the day and Darthypie started to screech. He has excellent timing. To this day I cannot get anywhere near a Chanel counter without Darthypie having a full blown meltdown. I think that Mr. Sith, when I'm not around, teaches Darthypie to fear makeup counters. He must dress up like a clown (because as we all know ALL CLOWNS ARE EVIL AND THEY ALL CARRY KNIVES) and terrify my poor son by saying "BOOO! Chanel is scaaaaarrrry!" and stuff like that.

ANYWAY, I grabbed the Bourjois Ombre Stretch Eyeshadow in Brun Nylon and checked out. The shadow sat in my train case for a few weeks. I just didn't feel compelled to use it, plus I was on a cool taupe kick and that Brun Nylon was not really cool. When I finally picked up MAC Style Snob I decided to dig out Bourjois Brun Nylon to see how it would fair as a base or highlight.
So?

Meh
It worked as a nice highlighter and also as a nice base shade. The shadow itself is fairly soft with minimal fallout. It did tend to crease after SEVERAL hours of wear so not bad as far as endurance goes. The case is slim and long...which is unconventional compared to all the circle and square cases out there. but it's nothing terrible like those awful Flirt Shadows they sell at Kohls. The color is a basic beige-y-taupe on the warm side and it's fairly frosty. In fact it's so close to beige I'm hesitant to call it taupe, but I'll do it anyway, because this is my blog and I set the rules and I can change the rules any time I want!

Do you need this? No. It's just so incredibly dull and run of the mill it's hardly a taupe worthy of holy grail status but I guess it'll do in a pinch. If you work in a very conservative office or need a good basic color for a job interview...this might be the shadow for you. But for a whopping $15 you can do a whole lot better than Bourjois Ombre Stretch Eyeshadow in Brun Nylon 09

EOTD using Bourjois Ombre Stretch Eyeshadow in Brun Nylon all over lid, Chanel Safari in crease and Fyrinnae Snow Leopard applied wet as a liner.

  4. I love that this blog is almost entirely devoted to taupe. i love taupe. i have this eyeshadow, and agree, it's not so special. I'm not sure about the rest of europe, but here in the UK Bourjois is drugstore, but one of the more expensive ones, this eyeshadow would be about £6.

  5. What stood out to me the most in your EOTD pic was Fyrinnae Snow Leopard. Balls, you may have just given me the push I needed to make a small order =(

That Bourjois eyeshadow looks nice, but it's totally a beige IMO.

  8. I think that shadow looks good on you!

And here in Japan it's not at Wet and Wild prices. It's like same price as in the states.

  10. Bourjois is, I believe, owned by Chanel. From what my trainer told me, it was pulled from Sephora out of, essentially, spite when Chanel and Sephora parted ways.

  12. Aww, I know you didn't like that shadow, but your review on it has totally made me want it now!!!

PS Bourjois is not exactly THAT cheap in Europe - I'm in Paris now and will be in the UK for a bit after, and I've realized that it's probably seen as lower end because it's only COMPARATIVELY cheaper - by which I mean all the American d/s brands we see going on BOGOF in WAGS all the time are seriously overpriced here. So Bourjois is cheaper by comparison, but not by any means WnW cheap, kwim?

Anyway, I know it's a beigey taupe, but that's totally up my alley. I totally NEED that thing now. If only makeup wasn't so $$$$ in Europe!
