Thursday Poll
I was reading this post from barefoot foodie yesterday and it got me thinking. a) How much I adore this blogger and want to be her BFF and b) how much I hate interacting with sales people, yet I have a pathological fear of robots. I'm screwed. Sure I like the idea of sales people. People to ring me up at the Sephora counter...PLEASE don't up sell and don't ask me if I want to BI gift because I have already looked that the crap you have and don't want it. People to ring me out at the grocery store because I hate bagging my own groceries and can never find the UPC code to scan. People to change the oil in my car, but don't talk to me about what you did. I don't care as long as that yellow light on my dashboard is off. Are we becoming a society that relies too much on robots to do the work? Robots call me all the time telling me that I need to pay my credit card bill. "Screw you robot! I'll pay my bill on MY time, not yours!" is what I yell into the phone before a "Customer Service Representative" picks up the line...then I hang up. I hear there are Robots that can vacuum my house, BRING IT! ... because I sure as hell ain't. Robots can do all sorts of super neat-o things. So why am I so afraid of them? I'm afraid of them mostly because I think most people who create robots don't follow Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics.
1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey any orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
Did anyone see the Terminator? That dude was SO not following those rules. Plus the robot girl on Small Wonder was super creepy.
On to the poll!
1. Lip Of The Day? - Dior Crème De Gloss #845. Oh my goodness this is a high shine warm red that will knock your socks off. It is far too flashy for my conservative office but screw it. It's almost a 3 day weekend. They’ll forget about my "hooker lips" by Sunday.
2. Do you blow dry your hair? Or just let it dry on its own? - I used to blow dry my hair but in the summer it's too hot. Now I just wash at night, let it air dry and in the morning I attack it with a flat iron. I'm probably murdering my hair, but so far I like how straight it has been and how quickly I can do my hair in the morning.
3. What will be your next beauty purchase? I can't decide if I'm going to get the Chantecaille Sylvie Personal Palette or Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. I'll probably get both because well...I'm me.
4. What was your favorite toy when you were a kid? I had a lot, but one that I found was the most used was my "Fashion Plates" By using several thin plates(which you aligned on a board and colored/traced over with colored pencils) you could create an woman with interchangeable fashionable outfits. I would spend HOURS playing with that, making all sorts of dreadful late 1970's fashion designs.
5. What is your skin type and your current favorite moisturizer? - Combination (Oily t-zone) favorite nighttime moisturizer is Sponge Rose + Sage Cream and Daytime is Skyn Iceland - The Antidote Quenching Daily Lotion.

just wanted to laugh at your robot rant and mention that i had the 1990 version of the fashion plates....oh my goodness, i spent SO much time making characters and stories and outfits with those!
ReplyDeleteI'm ok w/ the robots that vaccuum, or robotic arms that wash cars, build stuff, but if you put a face on that thing I'm out of here. So not cool.
ReplyDelete1. So far I've only got UD lipliner filled in. After my coffee, I'll add some lipgloss.
2.same as you, air dry overnight and flat iron in the morning.
3. I decided to wait until the sephora f&f sale and then I'll stock up on whatever I want/need/jumps into my basket. The UD book vol.2 looks mighty tempting though...
4.OMG, I freaking LOVED those fashion plates, I had forgotten all about them but they were so much fun!!!!
5.Skin type? Mega-oily, super sensitive, bitchy skin. But when it behaves it rocks. My coworker just said "you're sooooo pretty, your skin, wow.....anyway, what were you saying?" Made my week! =)
I had those fashion plates!!!!!!!!! I was obsessed with them. I sadly took my "drawings" to school and touted them as my own handiwork to all my classmates and denied using the stencils. I had a small problem with lying when I was around 8 or 9 years old. Also told my granddad we were naming my baby brother after him when we weren't, and my mom had to gently let him down and tell him I was lying. ;-)
ReplyDeleteLip of the Day? NARS Falaba, found at the bottom of my purse.
ReplyDeleteI blow my dry my hair every day (yeah, I know, not good), but I keep my hair short and my hair is very thick and I can't stand not having clean hair everyday.
My next Beauty Purchase? Probably The Balms Shady Lady Palette, but definitely planning on BB's CHROME Holiday Palette for sure.
I came in a wee bit before fashion plates (which I would have loved if I had them!) I just used plain paper and colored pencils and designed my own fashion dolls and cut them out. Also, I had a one of those hair styling heads with the makeup, I could play "beauty shop" for hours. Mom should have known then I was going to grow up to play with makeup.
Skin Type and Moisturizer? Combo, and I generally use Clinique (the Sith knows why) and in our Combo/Oily formulas.
ROBOTS?!??! Yes, I do like something that makes my life easier, but I always think of Will Smith in IROBOT! and they DID follow Asimov's rules!!!
Robots creep me out, just like wax figures and animatronics.
ReplyDelete1. Stila Long Wear in Exquisite
2. Dries on its own- it's only a few inches long!
3. Not sure, but it's a shitty day at work, and I think I'm going to haul from Nordstrom
4. My plastic dinosaurs from the museum gift store. I loved those things. They got along well with my My Little Ponies.
1. MAC Show Orchid.
ReplyDelete2. I have beautiful curly long hair (I know, modesty is not my thing today), and I just apply a Kerastase cream and let it dry naturally.
3. I cant wait to get my hands on the Bobbi Brown Body Shimmerbrick. (That thing is HUGE btw)
4. Didn't like toys so much. I was more into office supplies. The smell of new crayons and those fruity smelling erasers made my days.
5. Oily skin. I just cannot live wihtout blot powder. The only good thing is that I have sooooo many less wrinkles than my normal skin friends :)
I had those fashion plates! I forgot. How funny.
ReplyDeleteI never blow dry my hair. I am not wearing lipstick(yet). My next beauty purchase(s) will be tweezers and maybe Nars foundation. my skin type is sensitive/insane. Right now I am trying to use up my various moisturizers, so I have no favourites, just ones I want to get the heck out of the way b/c they don't work well.
(ps-- I am an American living in England, and I have resisted having a faux-Brit accent, thank heavens!)
Robots freak me out. Unless there were sex robots. I'd have me a few of those.
ReplyDelete1. Lip Of The Day? - Crazy Rumors Brew Spiced Chai Tea Balm. 'Twas a gift from Krakow on MUA. I don't have on MU besides balm, some eyeliner, and WP mascara today because I'm taking our late yoga class tonight.
2. Do you blow dry your hair? Or just let it dry on its own? - I never EVER blow dry my hair.
3. What will be your next beauty purchase? Hm no idea. Still waiting on that stupid UD BoSv2 as you know. I want the Paul and Joe items that were OOS when I was there last week, as well as Chantecaille Sel eyeshadow and that coffee scrub from Soapology. Also, the Chanel Black collex lippies and the BB Chrome lippies, and that Earth Metal palette. Also I'm still debating the Dior mascara/mini palette and the BB Pewter/Black Ink liner duo.
4. What was your favorite toy when you were a kid? I loved my Fashion Plates too, but Polly Pocket and my antique paper doll and dollhouse collection had my heart =D
5. What is your skin type and your current favorite moisturizer? - Bleh bad question. You know I'm still hunting for skincare right now.
