Free Sample – Evolution Of Smooth Organic Round Lip Balm

A month or so back, Evolution Of Smooth (EOS) came out with a freebie through Face Book that if you signed up for EOS and posted something on your page you would get a free round lip balm. Hey. I’m all about free lip balm. I have a zillion lip balms around b/c I am always feeling like my lips are about to dry up and fall off my face at any given time. Needless to say, I jumped on the opportunity to get one.


EOS touts itself as an Organic and natural company. The lip balm comes in the following flavors/scents:

honeysuckle honeydew

summer fruit

sweet mint

It is 100% natural and 95% organic. It is free of Parabens and Petroleum and it contains Vitamin E, Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil. That all sounds great! I was excited to try it.

How cool looking is that? It’s certainly a conversation piece this egg shaped light green plastic container emerges from your purse, because let’s face it, carrying it in your pants pocket will not only be uncomfortable, but just plain strange looking.


ANYWAY, you twist off the cap and you reveal a dome shaped hunk-o-balm. It looks like half of a super ball and smells like sweet mint. Yeah. My free sample was the sweet mint flavor/scent. Yes. It is favored and scented. The mint is rather strong, but not obnoxious.


Application is precise….Obviously…. The dome shape of the balm makes it easy to smother your lips, but honestly it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. I think if the lip balm FELT a little nicer it would be worth it. The balm is SOOOOOO waxy. It’s hard and it does not seem to “melt” much when in contact with your skin. It’s really waxy on my lips too.


Speaking of how it feels on, it felt worse the longer I wore it. I can’t prove it, but I think this lip balm dried out my lips! I started getting slightly chapped lips so I used it more, and it seemed that the more I used it, the more chapped my lips got! Maybe it was the menthol, I have heard that it can actually draw moisture from your skin, though I can’t say if that is true or not, but regardless of the mint, my lips were worse off using this EOS balm than if I had not used it all.


Do you NEED this? Heck no! Honestly. They should call it POS rather than EOS. (To those not knowing what POS stands for click here.
(...it’s the 1st definition.)

EOS lip balm can be purchased on line through the EOS website or Drugstore.com. It can also be found in Walgreens and Rite-aid stores. The sphere shaped balm retails for approximately $3.29 USD.

  1. I got the Sweet Mint in the mail as a freebie too. It smells like Doublemint gum but I don't discern a taste (except maybe the taste of the smell of mint, if you know what I mean).

    As a balm, it is pretty crappy. I didn't think of it as waxy, like Chapstick, but dry. What I DO like, however, is the matteness AND the fact that it makes an EXCELLENT lipstick base for runny, bleedy, feathery lipsticks and glosses. Stops the bleeding dead in its tracks and IT DOES NOT SHEER OUT THE LIPSTICK like most lip balms do! Nor does it change the color like concealer or nude pencils or flesh colored lipbases. This is a great, cheap alternative to my HG clear liner, Duwop's Reverse Liner. Yay.

    Plus I love the packaging. I keep it in my coat pocket and I can play pocket pool to my hearts content. Actually, I love playing with it in my pocket when I have the fidgets. It's like worry beads or those Chinese ball things (it also bounces on my desk so I can fidget with it that way, to the annoyance of my office neighbors).

    Balm: Sucky
    Base/Liner: Brilliant!

    Would I buy again? YES! I want to try the other scents.

  4. I got one through a sample site, and I was so psyched about the shape of it, but yeah, not very moisturizing at all. And it doesn't last either! I'll have to try it as a base, and see how it works.

  5. I actually thought it was a decent lip balm. It's not as good as some of my favorites, but I think it'll work great in spring and summer, and I love the idea of using it under lipstick.

  6. Well. How lame am I? I was in Walgreens last night and followed the bouncing ball (like Mitch Miller told me to do when I was a kid) all the way to the register. They are 2 for $6 so I bought Summer Fruit and Honeydew. I tried Summer Fruit and find it more moisturizing than the Sweet Mint and the scent not as long-lasting. It seems just as matte as the Sweet Mint so I am testing it today as a lip base under a Good Skin lipstick that travels North, South, East AND West when I wear it. So far so good.

    I also bought Good and Fruity, which I haven't seen in years (reissue?) and I SWEAR, the orange ones are different now. Oh well.

  8. I had the exact same experience with the Mint. It dried my lips out so bad. But I love Jack Black's mint therapy balm, so I concluded it's EOS's crappy formula.

  9. My lips aren't small but I felt like the giant dome totally overshot my lips and I smearing it over the lip line.

  10. Sarah M: THANK YOU for leaving this comment. I think it has helped a lot of readers better decide if they want this item or not. I didn't even think about sing it as a balm under lipstick. Usually because I only use a balm if I want a sheer look. Now you say this does not sheer out the color so I'll give it another try.!

    Mary In Wonder: I don't know, you might want to still try it. my experience with is seems to be the minority opinion. Remember. What might not work for me may work for you!

  12. gosh i love you! you are so hilarious. okay, i absolutely love mine.. i got the summer fruit balm.

    i can't prove it either, but a lot of the organic, balms/products with oils either chap my lips or leaves me dry. i think since they go totally organic, the product moisturizes, but someone like me needs something that will seal the moisture in.. hi pretroleum ;)

    my lips must have been in good shape because it took a while for the chapping to start. i would buy another one as i really want to try the sweet mint!

  13. I love this hunk o balm! Im not sure if the formula has been changed any,but the Summerfruit is awesome! It's tasty and makes my lips feel so soft! As far as the size.. the more you use it the flatter it gets! It's a different type of moisture. LOVE IT!
