Guest Review by Joeybunny -Purchase -- NARS Makeover and Meeting Mr. François Nars Himself!
So today, I met François Nars. Yes, that Nars. As in, NARS Orgasm. The gorgeous Mr. Nars made an appearance today at Saks in NYC, and I was lucky enough to snag a space in line to meet him and to get a makeover with one of NARS’ global makeup artists. With a wish list containing the Habanera eyeshadow duo and Montenegro cream blush in hand, my darling friend Daphne accompanied me on what was probably the best day ever.
Daphne sat with my digital camera in hand as Marco, my artist, got started on my face. I told him right away what I wanted to try, and he incorporated some of the NARS Fall collection into my look. There was NARS Sheer Glow foundation on my face (which felt great and looked great but honestly, Punjab was not my skin match - a shade too light), concealer, loose powder (which was too dark - more on this later), and Laguna bronzer. My eyes - a cream shadow as base (it was a gorgeous color but NARS cream shadows crease like hell, and it ended up doing a number on my eye look), Habanera and Brousse eyeshadow duos (why he used the green in Habanera as a highlight color is beyond me, but ok...), the new black liquid liner pen and Night Porter eyeshadow to tightline, and mascara. My cheeks were Montenegro, clearly. My lips - Toundra Velvet Matte lip pencil (sigh, gorgeous deep color for fall), Mitzi lip liner (I think), and Greek Holiday gloss.
Well, despite the tons of compliments I received on my face, the foundation oxidized pretty much immediately (Daphne said it was because of the powder), and my eye makeup creased immediately too (NARS cream shadows crease so, so badly). Oh, and MINT GREEN HIGHLIGHT UNDER MY BROWS?! Enough said. I couldn’t go outside like that, let alone to meet François, so I wiped off some of the eye makeup! After Daphne received a quick but equally misguided makeover (her face was made three shades darker by a powder foundation), I paid for my small haul of Habanera, Montenegro, and Toundra and went to meet Nars.
Well, not only did I have my ancient copy of “Makeup Your Mind” autographed, but I got a picture with the maestro himself. François was handsome, and incredibly sweet. We talked for a few minutes about my love for the line, and how excited I was to meet him, and how he’s my makeup hero. He was so gracious and complimented me and stroked my hands. Clearly, I broke down immediately after saying good-bye. Thank you Daphne, for keeping me from collapsing on 5th Avenue!
Well, what are two unhappily made-over girls in the city supposed to do? Go to Bergdorf Goodman to get re-madeover! I took Daphne to my beloved Hettie and Caroline at Paul and Joe, where we spent over an hour playing with products and having our faces redone. Daphne was thrilled to find a red she felt comfortable in, an amazing foundation match in their new Protective Fluid foundation, and took home a sample of the foundation along with some skincare. As for me, I have a makeover scheduled with Paul and Joe for this Saturday, so I placed my order for the new Holiday collection early (Hettie spoils me and let me see the new products early!), along with some other products. Oh, and Hettie completely redid my makeup; I had a gorgeous shiny deep pink with bronze and gold eyes.
And as of right now, more than six hours later, my eye makeup is still perfect! I ate so my lips disappeared, sadly. It’s good to know I have somewhere to go where I’ll always have a great makeover, with incredible service (Hettie personally made me some skincare samples! I adore her!). Of course, that’s not to say I didn’t have fun at NARS - I did! My makeover was funky and dark, but it just didn’t last, sadly. However, I hope I have better luck on my own with the products. And hey, I would have gone through the worst makeover ever just to meet François. He was so worth it all, and he really made my day!
