Fyrinnae Selkie Skin Eye Shadow

Today I bring yet another beautiful taupe eye shadow from Fyrinnae. This one is called Selkie Skin.

The word Selkie comes from a Icelandic, Irish, and Scottish mythology. Selkies apparently are able to become human by shedding their seal skins, and can return to their seal form by putting it back on. Most stories about selkies are generally romantic tragedies. Sometimes the human will not know that their lover is a selkie, and wakes to find them gone. Other times the human will hide the selkie's skin, which prevents the selkie from returning to seal form.
According to Wikipedia (which by the way is full of errors but I like to use it for quick explanations):
"In [the film] The Secret of Roan Inish, a fisherman steals the selkie's pelt while she is sunbathing. She is then forced to return to his house, as she cannot escape back into the sea, and becomes his wife and bears him children. The skin of the seal gives her power over men, but without it she is a mortal woman, trapped on land, slave to the whims of her husband. The life there slowly suffocates her and she spends much time splashing in the shallows of the ocean. Years later, one of the children sees the pelt and asks what it is. The wife immediately knows, drops what she is doing and retrieves the pelt from its hiding place, having long ago despaired of ever finding it. She does not hesitate; she rushes to the ocean to return to her former life as a seal."
OK. Enough history lesson.

But it does help explain the beautiful SEAL-GREY color of this shadow.
With subtle shimmer, Selkie Skin is a beautiful satin finish shadow from Fyrinnae. As with most Fyrinnae shadows Selkie Skin bends effortlessly and applies beautifully dry or wet.

I like to apply it wet along the lower lash line as a liner and dry (over a primer) on the lid. This light grey taupe works really well as a base or overall wash. I love to pair it with a darker grey or black shadow for a smokey eye or with a deep plum in the crease.
Do you NEED this? Well Who doesn't need at least a sample size of this shadow from Fyrinnae. for $1.75 it's a bargain at twice the price!

Fyrinnae Selkie Skin eye shadow on lid applied dry and applied wet along lower lash line, MAC Arctic Grey to highlight, Chanel La Ligne De Chanel in Noir Lame to line upper lid.

But honestly the main reason for this post is to show off the pictures of seals that Mr. Sith took on our Honeymoon over 8 years ago. (I fouind them while rearranging files on the computer.) We were driving down the California Coast and somwehere between Monterey and Santa Barbara we came upon a beach with all these awesome seals on it. Here are just a few of the pictures he took. Please excise the low resolution. We only had (actual film) a regular camera and had the pictures, when we had the film developed, put on a CD...so it was like ancient technology. But enjoy anyway!

  8. This color is beautiful! I also love the name, we say that my dog is a Selkie because his face and bully/pug body type remind me of a seal!
I love your pics too. Adorable!
