Ombre Eclat Mono Eyeshadow in L'Instant Fume #180 is my newest addition to my Taupe eye shadow obsession. The case is in the same fashion of the lipstick cases designed by French jewelry and furniture designer Hervé Van der Straeten. Aside from the decadent case, I must say that I am incredibly disappointed. It’s a lovely color taupe, don’t get me wrong, but the color payoff is awful. I had to heavily swatch the color on my arm for it to even show up then I decided to use my new ArtDeco Eye shadow Primer (Thanks ALICE!!) to even get it to show up on my arm.
How does it wear?
Meh. It wears very well with my eye shadow base, but if you don’t use a base, don’t expect it to last at all. Although how would you know? You could hardly see it.
How is the texture?
The texture is hard but silky. It shows very little wear even after digging into it with the enclosed foam applicator and my brushes. It’s almost or more than double the size of most eye shadow singles I would have never have purchased this eye shadow if the tester I used wasn’t so pigmented and silky. I don’t know if it felt and looked that way with repeated use or what. I have heard that not all of Guerlain’s Mono Eye shadows are this light and un-pigmented. When I tested the Fume I also tested a black shadow with golden sheen called L'Instant Nuit #182 which was lovely seemed pigmented too.
How’s the value?
Guerlain’s Ombre Eclat Mono Eyeshadow weighs in at a hefty 0.12 oz versus Laura Mercier’s 0.09, Chanel’s 0.07oz , MAC’s 0.05 oz or BECCA’s paltry 0.03 oz. Sure. That’s great and all but what does it matter if you can’t get it to show up? At $34 a single it’s not worth it to try and collect more.
My favorite brand has disappointed me. I’m crushed.
FYI. I swatched Chanel Safari ($28.50) and Laura Mercier Topaz ($22.00) so you can see how similar they are to the Guerlain.
ATTENTION. I MISLABELED THE PHOTO. THE ORDER OF THE EYE SHADOWS SHOULD BE
(Left to right: Chanel Safari, Guerlain Fume, Laura Mercier Topaz)
I APOLOGIZE FOR THE CONFUSION

My blog was given the "Triple Award" from lovely ladies Pixie (awesome nail polish blog) and T (Fab Budget Beauty Finds blog)! I'm not entirely sure what a Triple Award is, but I am very flattered to be nominated and I have a feeling that this is going to turn into one of those 25 things phenomena that happened on Face Book. But either way if it brings more eyes to my blog and my friends blogs then more power to it.
Here are the rules for the recipients:
1. Put the logo on your blog or post.
2. Nominate at least 10 blogs which show great Attitude and/or Gratitude!
3. Be sure to link to your nominees within your post.
4. Let them know that they have received this award by commenting on their blog.
5. Share the love and link to this post and to the person from whom you received your award.
So here is my list of 10 in alphabetic order.
Fab reviews of high end cosmetics, skin care and sought after Japanese brands. Her reviews are so amazingly detailed and informative. she has saved me and cost me a lot of money. Plus her pictures are drool worthy!
Birkin Bag Beauty
Any blog that post pictures of cupcakes is WONDERFUL in my book. Oh and her reviews of Asian and American and European makeup are insightful and helpful. I also love that fact that she has fun posts about items like Mystery Boxes from GMarket and cute fashion and unique items!
Here is your honest and upfront reviewer of Mineral makeup, MARK and Avon and a bunch of other brands I would never even wear (I'm a total snob) but Aly does and she's great at giving you super detail and honest feedback. Plus I just like her writing style and the fact that she has helpful promo codes for MAC and other makeup brands. I can't help but love the fact that he's some a part of CA that is full of fake looking women and she's real and real beautiful!
Happy Face Happy Wallet
She nominated me, and I am propagating this Internet pyramid scheme but hey, I love her reviews of budget conscious beauty items and her rating system. She even creates lemmings in a High End makeup snob like me. *hides Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse foundation I've been using since I read her review*
Make Me Blushhh
Just about the cutest girl I've seen and I love her honest and helpful reviews. I also love her obsession with hair stuffs and wish my mane was as pretty as hers!
My Makeup Reviews
Jojoba has the most detailed and almost technical reviews of the prettiest makeup. I love her blog because I can be sure to find a lot of detailed pictures and honest feedback about the color, texture and quality of a lot of European Brands. It's doesn't hurt that she is very pretty and provides a gorgeous Face Of The Day with almost every post!
The Pink Train Case
Hello! How could I not nominate another Taupe eyeshadow lover? Plus she has a fun and lively approach to beauty. Aside from the fact that she inspires many lemmings, she likes baking and taupe eyeshadow she has to be my sister from a different mother!
One of my Favorite Nail Blogs. She showcases high end and low end polishes and her nails are impeccable! I wish my cuticles looked as nice as hers! I'm always envious of anyone that has time and energy to change their polish color more then once a week. LOL
A Fashion and beauty blog. Sure there are a lot of them but how many are written by High School Seniors? And how many of them are written with a mature voice and cover something other than Uggs and denim micro minis from A&F? This one blog is so impressive because it really does take a lovey objective view at fashion and beauty from a younger eye but not an immature one. Please pay Megan and Maude them a visit. It will be well worth your time!
What Lachesiss thinks
From Gorgeous color eye of the days to fab hauls this blog will make you inspired to try out new colors and you will be refreshed bu the honest and candid reviews. Plus she's a sweetheart!
Dang. that was way more work than I expected. I'm not bummed about it because these all deserve the lemonade, sisterhood, best friends award or whatever this silly thing is.
Happy President's Day for what it's worth!

Shu Uemura’s past Fall collection had some pretty blushes in it…I picked up pulse, but I passed on the highlighter, Steam, at the time it was released. I knew I was going to regret it. By the time the Shu Uemura Friends and Family sale came along those darn blushes were gone and I was S.O.L. (Sh*t Outta Luck).
A Sales Associate at Barney’s in Chicago applied it on top of the Pulse blush from the same collection and my face just lit up. I wanted to purchase it but I decided against it that day. I don’t know what my problem was. I think I had this thing called “A moment of clarity” in which I realized that I have 3,216,546,546 highlighters back home and I probably didn’t need another one.
Stupid rational thought!
Well I pined away for that light peachy-white highlighter that gave me a wonderful glow for many, many months. Finally in December, a full 5 months later, I decided I would buy it from Sasa.com before the end of the year (a date I had put on halting frivolous makeup purchases – another rational thought. Drat!) It finally arrived from Sasa.com and I’m thrilled!
See I knew I needed this? Only highlighter can bring me such joy…well maybe blush and taupe eye shadow can as well, but you get my point! My POINT is that I NEEDED this little 0.17oz of peachy-white-gold powdery goodness.
Shu Uemura’s glow on blushes are not highly pigmented but that’s not a bad thing. They provide subtle color to your cheeks. In a day where I see more of the 1980’s wretched makeup showing up on the runways and in women’s magazines (Yeah I’m looking at you Cosmo) I have come to appreciate the more toned down cheek. Also, I like to do a dramatic smokey eye and too much blush can make me look whorish and like a woman that puts her makeup on in the dark.
As simple swipe of my Body & Soul #2 blush brush across the surface of the blush and applied to my cheek bones and temples and I have a glow like you get when in candlelight. I adore it! As with most Shu Uemura makeup products the blush has no scent. Yea! Oh and I know you are asking yourself. “Does this look like a disco ball with that gold imprint on one side? The answer is, No. It’s overspray and basically disappears after your first use. But there is subtle shimmer, SUBTLE I tell ya, built into the blush.
Now the Shu Uemura website does not have it for sale, but like I said, you can find it on Sasa.com or on evilbay…the person selling it on evilbay is asking a decent price for it. Not my auction, but I just wanted to give you some options if you wanted to look for it.
My favorite thing about Shu Uemura makeup is that it can be put into Shu Uemura Palettes! I have depotted this blush and put it into another palette with another Shu Uemura blush.
So have you ever regretted not buying a limited edition item only to find it later? Did it live up to your hopes or was it all built up in your mind, and when you finally got it you weren’t as excited?

Spring is in the air. Punxsutawney Phil don’t know squat about predicting the weather. He’s a fraud! It was almost 70 degrees here yesterday. I say we make Groundhog stew outta him, because he said 6 more weeks of winter and winter does not equal 70 degree weather. Damn it! I’m actually mad because I haven’t shed my winter weight that I like to hide under sweaters and such. Oh did I mention I had to pack on my winter weight on top of my baby weight and my previous winter weight? Yeah. It kinda sucks. I need about 3 winters to work off all the pounds. Thankfully taupe eye shadow still fits me.
On to the poll
1) Lip of the day? – Chantecaille lip chic in Tea Rose! OMG I love this so much. I took pictures and will post them soon. I promise
2) Beauty item you just finished and beauty item you just got? – I just finished my pressed meteorites. I adore them. Thank goodness I was able to fin a refill on evilbay for $22. I just got a Club Monaco eye shadow in Quartz. It’s taupe and it’s frickin fabulous. Thanks to my friend Tessa from MUA. She sent the sweetest RAOK (Random act of kindness) package.
3) Valentine’s day? Yay or Nay? Nay-ish. I’m married and I still think it’s a silly holiday. You should tell someone you love them every day. Not just wait until one day that the Hallmark Company decided was the day to do it. Now mind you, I won’t argue if you give me chocolates.
4) Do you have any pets? – Yes. I have 2 dogs (English Bulldogs) and one cat. My cat is 17 years old and his name is Trauma. Yup. Trauma. He complains about everything and everything is a big drama for him. He’s infatuated with my husband and thinks Darthypie is a nuisance but he tolerates him. He secretly loves the dogs and sleeps with them when he thinks no one is watching.
5) MAC Hello Kitty. Did you get some? – Yes. I picked up a little something for my Friend Pam for her Birthday. So if you are reading this Pam, don’t buy anything…like you were really going to anyway. As for the makeup from the collection, the colors are so not for me. I’m actually a bit disappointed. I still kind of wished they had done the traditional red & white color scheme, but whatever. MAC has really gotten boring. All those silly collections, it’s too hard to keep up. But I hear that a new mineralized blush duo collection is due out next month called Grand Duos. Those look VERY interesting. Just when I thought I was out, the pull me back in!

Laura Mercier Lip Stain isn’t really a traditional lip stain. It’s more like a highly pigmented lipstick that has been melted into a glass jar. Don’t get me wrong. I like the color and consistency very much, but when I think of a lip stain I think of something a bit more transparent and a bit more liquidy. Fortunately this lip stain from Laura Mercier has just as good staying power as other lip stains!
I received this as a “gift” from Sephora when I cashed in 100 beauty insider points. I can’t tell you what a scam that thing is. Sephora's Beauty Insider program is kind of useless to me, only because I have tried so many things so a lot of the deluxe samples they offer don't appeal to me. Sure they have good samples every now and then, but lately there have been craptacular “rewards” for spending your hard earned money. Since I hadn’t used my points in a while, because I found the “gifts” too useless, I had enough points when Laura Mercier Lip Stain in Mulberry came around in the BI prize box. I had a code for free shipping so I simply purchased a lip liner (I’m sorta addicted to them) and used my BI points to get this lip stain.
I must say that despite its lack of lipstainlike appearance I rather like it. The color I got was Mulberry. It is described as a “deep berry red” but I think it is more like a red that has some warm brown tones to it. It’s perfect for me because it doesn’t turn fuchsia on my lips after a meal. The lip stain line from Laura Mercier comes in 6 colors total:
Mocha - rich milk chocolate
Mulberry - deep berry red
Peach Glaze - light nude peach
Scarlet - bright cherry red
Shy Pink - light natural pink
Sugar Violet - deep rosy mauve
The lip stain is creamy and does not dry out my lips like the Giorgio Armani Lip Wax did…the only downfall is that it’s in a pot. It’s “stain-y” enough for you to NOT use your finger to apply…and why would you, because that’s not sanitary…although I have been known to do this with potted glosses & balms from time to time…..but I digress. That’s the downfall. It requires a lip brush to apply. But fortunately I like to apply all red lipsticks with a brush for a more even and more flattering appearance. The lip stain does not have a scent that I can detect…unlike Laura Mercier’s lip gloss which smell heavily of Marshmallow (a scent I quite like but some people hate). It also has no taste to it either.
Sorry for the used appearance I didn’t think I was going to do a review on this item. I have used it 4 times since I received it and as you can see, this small sample size jar is going to last me a long, long while. If you purchase the full size version you are getting a lot of use for your money. At 0.21 oz for $20 it’s a great investment is you like the color or if you are one of those people that wears the same lip color every day….but somehow I think if you are reading this blog you are not one of those people! LoL. Also please note that this is a sample jar. The actual product is in a larger jar (same height but larger diameter).
This is how it looks on the lips. I used a lip liner to define the lips and then applied it with a lip brush. I did not blot.
This is how it looks after drinking hot tea and a few Digestives (McVitie’s of course)
Not bad really.
So if you want a nice lip stain for a good price and a few different colors to choose from I say Laura Mercier is your best bet.

Kose Happy Bath Day, Precious Rose, Hand Essence is something I have been wanting since I read a review on GlowChaser’s old blog. I have wanted the line since I read about it on Rouge Deluxe blog, which was about last July.
Anyway, the reason I wanted it was because all the products are rose scented. And not an overpowering sickly sweet rose and not some cloying, decomposing rose either. Actually the scent of the rose is very light and slight.
Here is a list of all the Kose Happy Bath Day Precious Rose from The Rouge Deluxe blog
Hair Wax (Shiny)
Hair Wax (Nuance Arrange)
Cleansing Sheet: Makeup-removing sheets
Essence Butter: body moisturizing cream
Milky Body Gel: body moisturizer
Bath Set: single use sachets of the body soap, shampoo, conditioner and milky body gel
So I went to the Kose website and since I don’t read Japanese I must say it’s rather difficult to navigate. I am quite amused by the 6 guys in white suits with Japanamae/Emo haircuts that are presenting the product to you on the main page,
but whatever. Here is a link to all the products in the line.
I purchased the Kose Happy Bath Day Hand Essence for $7 usd off of evilbay as it was the only place I found it…but I’m sure you can get it from other trusty websites, however the price I paid and the seller I used was perfect, so I’m not complaining.
Right now you all are thinking. “What about the effectiveness Pink? We know all about your bizzaro rose scented fetish!”
I’m glad you asked my dear readers!
Let’s start from the very beginning. A very good place to start.
The container. A small deep pink oblong container that is no more than 3 and a half inches high (8.9 centimeters) and 2 inches wide (at its widest part) (5 centimeters). The cap twists off and the essence is dispensed through a tiny nozzle.
Only a little comes out with each squeeze which is good because you really only need a little bit to moisturize your hands. This little gem will fit in some of the smaller purses and almost fits in the palm of your hand. It’s very travel friendly and holds 35ml (1.18 oz)
The essence itself is very light, like a white creamy gel.
Once the essence is applied to your hands it sinks right in. It does not leave a greasy feeling or sticky feeling either. It’s like your hands have been infused with moisture. Now I must say that because it is very lightweight, I’m not sure how effective it will be for people with very dry hands. I have moderately normal skin and can survive without hand cream all the time. So maybe this might be a good thing to use in the summer for those that suffer for very dry skin in the winter. Either way, the essence is not a cream but it still moisturizes my skin just as well as my hand creams. I really enjoy it! Oh and I absolutely HATE that greasy, sticky feeling that I get when I use other hand creams. I can't touch anything and I feel all smeary after using it. Bleh! Don't get me started on the AVON silicone hand glove gel cream thingie...or whatever it's called. I felt like I had put Monistat anti chafing gel all over my hands. *barf*
So should you get this?
Well if you love the scent of roses – YES
If you like a lightweight hand cream that does not feel sticky – YES
If you are enamored with all things Japanese – YES
Will I be buying more things from the line? – Yes
I have already purchased the lip balm. Look at how cute the little rose shaped container is!
It's about 1.25 inches (3.5 centimeters) wide and .75 inches (2 centimeters) high
But do I love the lip balm. Welllllll, no. It’s no Labello or Nivea but it’s cute. This is the one time where I think the rose scent is too much. When I wear it, every breath is like inhaling rose perfume and that’s not such a great feeling. It does not taste of roses, thank goodness! It does keep my lips moisturized but I won’t be repurchasing it, it’s a tad too greasy and the scent it too overpowering for lip balm. I’m thinking of using it for cuticle cream instead. How does that sound? Yucky?
Well, whatever. I’ll have the nicest smelling cuticles on the East Coast!
