I'm Pale. I'm not as pale as some but I'm pretty darn pale. I have a lot of freckles on my body. I believe that if those freckles were evenly distributed I would actually have some color to my skin. I don't tan. No let me rephrase that. I cannot tan. I have tied. In my younger days I would lay out in the sun with baby oil and turn red like a lobster. I would be in pain for several days and then be white all over again. I even went to a tanning salon and tanned there and I didn't change color at all. I realized much too late in life that I was pigmentally challenged. I think I was adopted, (well I hope at least) because my Brother, Mother & Father are all dark skinned, dark haired and have brown eyes. They can all tan too. It's so unfair. My skin reflects light. I have a picture from homecoming and I'm wearing a black strapless dress. Everyone in the picture has color and I'm this shining ghost white creature in black velvet. I would love to embrace my paleness like (possible NSFW website) Dita Von Teese, but alas I am no pin up girl and I neither have the time energy or money to have a full time makeup artist. My solution? Dress in layers, wear a lot of sunscreen and laugh when people ask me if I moon bathe instead of sunbathe. Har dee har har har. Yep. Never hear that one before! That's original.
OK. I got off on a tangent.
I apologize.
What I'm writing about is how difficult it can be to find a foundation for a pale person like me....and maybe you. I have a lot of red in my face so I buy yellow based foundations to cancel it out... problem is, my neck is white; like devoid of color. I have no problem getting a foundation to match my face, but once it hits my jaw & neck, well it's awful. I look like a 5 year old trying on Mommy's makeup. I look like I can't blend, I look just terrible. What's worse, some foundations, in which I really like the formula, don't have a shade match for me at all. Everything they have is too dark. That's a complete and utter bummer, because the formula rocks but the color sucks. And any good foundation hoor will tell you it's almost as hard to find a good formula match as it is a color match.
But I finally found a solution!
No. It's not going to the headquarters of LVMH and demanding they make lighter shades and shouting "You are not fooling anyone by trying to say there is a Chanel foundation that is pale enough for Nicole Kidman. We all know that isn't true!".
My solution, as much as I would like to go to the HQ of LVMH and demand stuff, is a simple bottle of FACE atelier Zero Minus Foundation.
What IS this you say?
FACE atelier has a white foundation shade called Zero Minus that can be mixed with almost any liquid foundation to lighten the color dramatically or minimally. You can also use Zero Minus foundation to highlight cheekbones and other areas of the face where you want a sculpted and highlighted look.
FACE atelier Zero Minus does not thin out your foundation like a moisturizer would. It actually lightens it so that the shade you have can be gradually lightened to accommodate your skin color. Or in my case, can be lightened when I apply the foundation on my jaw and blend to my neck so that it doesn't look like an orange mask!
When I first heard of FACE atelier Zero Minus I wasn't 100% sure I was going to like it. I have used other white foundations in the past and didn't have good results with them. So when I ordered from FACE atelier I decided to get the smaller .68 oz size for $32 rather than the full 1.0 oz size for $45/ If only I had done more research I would have found that whiterabbitbeauty.com carries FACE atelier products and offers a discount and free shipping so a 1 oz bottle of foundation would cost me $37.80 including shipping. Well Now I know and knowing is half the battle. (p.s. I don't get a commission for mentioning them. I was just impressed that they had a good discount.)
I don't use very much every day so an entire bottle lasts me several months. Here is how I use it.
For foundations that are too dark for me all over I use 1 pump for every 2-3 pumps of foundation.
For foundations that are OK for my face but too dark for my neck I add in one pump near the end of my foundation usage and use that mixture for my jaw and neck only.
Am I confusing you?
Well I have this little plastic dish that I use to pump my foundation into and I use my MAC 187 skunk brush to apply my foundation. If I have a foundation that I like to use my fingers to apply I pump the foundation on the back of my hand then then pump the FACE atelier foundation in another area on the back of my hand and mix the 2 foundations as needed.
Here is a little swatch comparison for you all to see
Do you need this? Well if you are Very sensitive to silicones NO! This stuff is loaded with them. But since I have been using Retin-A Micro (RAM) I have not had any problems with the silicones in this formula. If you don't have a sensitivity to silicones and are finding light foundations hard to come by, i suggest you give this a try. It certainly couldn't hurt. I will say that if you use this with a mattifying foundation the matte effect will be lessened because of the consistency of the FACE atelier foundation formula.
