Dior Creme de Gloss in Rouge Nectar #845

image from sephora.com

I have written about Dior's Creme de Gloss before. HERE. And for an even more detailed review catch Jojoba's review HERE on her My Makeup Reviews blog. I love this formula so much I had to get another color in this line. This time instead of neutral nude I went bold and red! I picked Dior Creme de Gloss #845 in Rouge Nectar. This is an in your face knock your socks off red. This is not a red for the faint of heart. This is bright and deep and a perfect non blue based red.

First of all the formula is a cross between a lip gloss and a lipstick. The Creme de Gloss applies opaque upon first swipe. It carries a fully pigmented punch and because it is so pigmented it only takes a little to make a big statement. The Creme de Gloss is SOOOO shiny! Seriously it looks like I'm wearing a lipstick and a gloss that has PVC vinyl reflection quality. I love that about this product. I remains wonderfully shiny and fresh looking for a long time. The incredibly moisturizing formula seems to almost plump up your lips...however that is not one of the product's promises...I just feel that because my lips are more moisturized they feel plumper. Does that make sense?

This product is non sticky and it feels very light on your lips. I almost forget I'm wearing it....Except...
Well.... Well it seems WHENEVER I wear a red lipstick I always end up feeling little itchies on or around my lips. It's not an allergic reaction, it's my mind playing tricks on me because a little scratch with your finger around your mouth when wearing a red lipstick ends up being a disaster and you end up looking like some demented drunk Cougar at last call on a Saturday night. Lipstick smeared all over her face, the smell of quiet desperation oozes out of her pores while she watches the douchebag in the Abercrombie & Fitch "distressed" baseball hat leave with his buddies after scoring free drinks from her all night. She tries to steady herself against the bar, tucking in stray hairs from her "up-do" behind her ears as she decides if she will eventually hit on the bartender or bouncer ... again. The stench of spilled cosmopolitans and ultra light cigarettes envelop her as she pops a breath mint and calls a cab on her blinged out iPhone with the picture of her little teacup Yorkie set as the background image. Once home, she slips off her 4 inch leopard print stilettos and resigns herself to another night soaking her bunions and watching re-runs of "The Golden Girls" until she falls asleep with Mitsy the Yorkie dutifully by her side.

I digress.

What I mean to say is, whenever I wear red lipstick I'm hyper focused on NOT touching my lips because I don't want to smear the color. This Dior Creme de Gloss is so pigmented that it will stain your lips and any other skin it comes in contact with. So because I'm so hyper focused I develop phantom itches and it drives me crazy. That's all I'm trying to say.

So. Do you need this, sad Cougar story aside? ONLY if you LOVE red lips and are strong enough to wear it out in broad daylight...or at a nightclub.

  1. Um, Elvira...? Are men sad and desperate when they hang out in taverns hoping for a pick up? Or is that just women?

  2. Anon: Yes. Men are sad and desperate when they hang out at a bar looking for a hook up, but they usually don't wear red lipstick while doing it.

  3. ha you are the best - if you wrote a Jackie Collins-ish novel I'd read every single one published! Yeah I could smell the desperation all the way here in SF!

I do love the Dior Creme de Gloss - I have Beige Elixir and I LOVE it. Where do I start? I love how it feels so moisturizing, the green tea scent and the fact that since I have ultra sensitive lips this doesn't make mine itch at all! I may have to find another color to wear - this one maybe too red. Like Asian Streetwalker Red...on me of course! =)

  4. Perhaps if your cougar, like me, just simply wore her jeans and flats, knew how to use that Iphone and had a pic on it w/ a 50's prom queen that says "Domestically Disabled" for wallpaper and simply was herself, she too would have been promised many children from a 28 yr old drunken Irishman, as I was Friday Night. I refused but he still insisted on dancing with me and taking pictures.......and you dahmn well know I don't do red lipstick.

  7. LOL at that story. It made my day!

The product sounds lovely. I wear red very rarely, but I could see trying it out in a more neutral color.

  11. Lexi: LOL. You NEED one of these CDGs. And what is so wrong with looking like an Asian Hooker?

fatbottmdgrl: Now now. Stay away from those Irish men. They will knock you up, just by looking at you!

Cindy: LOL. I doubt you are anything like this.
