MAC Viva Glam Lipsticks in Cyndi and Gaga

MAC Viva Glam lipsticks were established in 1994 in order to support men, women and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Viva Glam has released 6 lipstick shades that are part of the permanent line (I, II, III, IV, V and VI) For Spring 2010 MAC Launched two new Limited edition shades to stay for only 12 months in stores. Which Celebrity names and lips are behind the new shades? Well you all know that by now so it's not a spoiler, but the ever fantastic, super adorable Cyndi Lauper and The Monster herself, Lady Gaga! Every purchase of a VG lip product MAC will donate money to the MAC AIDS fund. So not only are you making yourself beautiful you are doing a beautiful act by contributing to research and support to men, women and children with HIV/AIDS around the world. MAC Viva Glam Cyndi

Of course I had to get both lipsticks. First of all Cyndi Lauper is the most awesomness female singer ever. her songs are woven into the fabric of my youth. They make up the soundtrack of my life, how could I not indulge in this pretty coral red color?

MAC Viva Glam Gaga
Then there's Lady Gaga. I will admit, when I first hear about her I thought she was a hot mess. I didn't really like her music and I thought she was a big fraud. But when she released the album Monster I really gave it a listen and as much as the hard core Goth/(not emo)/Punk Stuck in the 90's kinda gal that I am doesn't want to admit it, I really like her now. I especially ADORE her video for Bad Romance as I love looking at the fashion, hair and makeup. But sadly Lady Gaga's cool opaque pink lipstick is a hot mess on me. With the possibility of offending some people I doubt there are many people this looks good on. Some women are walking around right now with this shade and they look like a Hot Mess and don't even know it. Just my opinion. I will say that the lipstick can look OK if you apply it with a lip brush or if you use a colored or pink gloss over top...but honestly I tried those methods and it still looked like poo on me.

Do you NEED these lipsticks. Well I think Cyndi is a total winner and is a beautiful shade for this spring AND summer. Even if these 2 colors don't appeal to you, there are 6 other shades that might work for you in the permanent collection. So why not give it a go? It's for a good cause, if nothing else.

Both shades are in the lustre formula of MAC lipsticks. These are on the sheer side, but can be built up well. I personally find MAC lipstick drying on my lips, but I sacrifice for the sake of fashion or a put on lip balm. either way, it works. Each lipstick retails for $14 USD. (At the time of this post VG Gaga is sold out on the MAC website, but was still available at other retail outlets that sell MAC cosmetics)

Here is my lame attempt at airbrushing some color onto my skin. I call it the Jersey Shore Edition.

  6. I have Cyndi and I love it, but I'm unfairly pale and it looks soooo bright/bold on me. I had to go buy a milky pink gloss to calm it down to wear it out of my apartment. But I still love it!

    Elvira,
I love VG Cyndi! She has a cool name too--heh heh. ITA Gaga is weird and I don't anyone who can wear it unless on top of something else--I totally skipped it but now I'm thinking I should get it for my daughter who loves Lady Gaga. I thought she was stupid too until my DD made me listen to her and she def has a good voice.
    Love the new look girly!

  9. Hmm... maybe it's because seeing the lips alone provides no context for what the lippie truly looks like on you, but I actually love the Gaga shade on your lips! I think the Gaga shade actually looks on most everyone; I've yet to see it on someone and not like it. I believe it suits a variety of skintones but perhaps doesn't suit everyone's personal style or taste, if that makes sense. It's definitely not a "my lips but better" shade, and it takes a degree of ladyballs to wear it because it's unusual, but in my opinion it's very pretty on everyone who I've seen wear it... including you!

  10. Oh man, I love you for the Jersey Edition - you know Snookie rocks this look with her pouf just going to the CVS to buy more Marlboro Lights! Yeah you have to be really the skintone or have the right lip liner/gloss to make this one work.

Once again, I agree with pretty much everything you said and how ironic is it that I'm wearing Viva Cyndi today on top of half red lip pencil - it makes it a very office friendly lip! And about Lady Gaga -I first passed her off as a Pop friendly Bjork and Mr. Lex she is actually a Pop friendly Peaches - I think I agree with his statement more! But I gave her another chance, watched her live, seen her interviews, read her interviews and listened to both albums and yes, I can now admit that I am a fan. I like her off and on stage - she seems like despite her outrages getups/persona she is a humble person that is very thankful where she has landed beneath it all.

Also, I'm just so sad that we didn't get to see more of a Lady Gaga/Alexander McQueen collaborations cuz she's the only one I can see really getting away wearing his crazy runway outfits during the day!

  13. I am in absolute love with the Cyndi lipstick, it is the red I have been searching for my whole (makeup-wearing) life.

ITA about Gaga - was not a fan of hers at first, but she grew on me! I also bought her lipstick, but it's very, very iffy on me.

  14. If I could wear these, I would buy Cyndi in a flash!

  16. LMAO!!

I love how Cyndi looks but I don't wear MAC lustres very well at all... (they're too drying). =/

  17. Cyndi is a lovely color!
Yeah, Gaga looks difficult to wear indeed.
I'll probably pass because limited editions annoy me, and I don't want to deal with lipsticks that need prepping to wear comfortable.

  18. So glad you spoke the truth about Viva Glam Gaga, I dont think I've seen ONE lip swatch where it applied smoothly or looked good :( but everybody (including me, not gonna lie) wants it because it's Gaga!

  19. Jersey Shore Edition...LOL!

I kind of wanted to get Gaga just because I'm a fan of hers even though I knew I would never actually wear the lipstick (I hate the way most pinks look on me), but fortunately it was sold out by the time I ordered from MAC. Cyndi will be mine in a couple of days, though. :D

  20. No offense, but DO NOT WEAR GAGA anywhere but in the comforts of your own home. It isn't for you. It is a very hard shade to wear, my 18 year old daughter looks great in it though. You, Pink Sith, should stick with Cyndi.

  21. Renata: Thanks! Say hello to Brazil for me! I hear my name, Elvira, is a popular one there. It would be nice to meet other Elviras. 

    Jamilla: Thanks for the comment!

Nea/ Fashioned in Finland: TY. ITA about Gaga.

Dina: TY for the comment. I like Cyndi the Best.

Amy: Let’s poof our hair and call each other guidettes!

Beck: You could totally pull off Cyndi all on it’s own. Try applying with a lip brush.

Dominique: To be honest. I haven’t either. LOL

Cindy: Of course you need Cyndi. Maybe ship it for your daughter. No one needs that color on their face.

Beeks: You are right, but I’m shy about posting a full face…plus I would need to learn photoshop to show my whole face so I don’t scare you all. But Gaga applied with the right gloss on top MIGHT look ok on me….might.

Lexi920: I bet you rock Cyndi! TY for loving the new background. Totally love the fact that you picked up on the Wonder Woman /Jem theme!

Marce: They are nicer in person photos don’t do Cyndi Justice!

Kiradris: Isn’t Cyndi the best? LOVE it too!

Lorin: Yeah. They are drying on me. Kinda sucks

Popcorn: Hoe Gaga works for you!

Catherine: ITA about the MAC lustres. Such a pain that they dry out my lips.

Kuri: I totally understand. I hate prepping to wear l/s!

SilhoutteScreams: LOL. That’s kinda why I bought Gaga b/c it’s Gaga!

Tiffany: I think you are better off just buying her halbums rather than that lipstick. Cyndi is a great shade!

Jill: NO offense taken. You cracked me up. Trust me. I won’t be wearing Gaga unless It’s on a dare or I’m drunk!
