Guest Review by Lachesisss Torture Testing: Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy Primer

Hello My lovely readers. We at the PinkSith blog are proud to bring you a guest post by Lindsay from the What Lachesis Thinks blog. She did an awesome post on Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy, which I recommend you reading (Link is in Lindsay's post) and I asked her to do another post on Pixie epoxy because I think it's so fab. Actually I'm quite in love with most Fyrinnae products...just so you know. So without further ado....Here is Lindsay! ===================================================

The defacto standard in eyeshadow primer has always been Urban Decay Primer Potion, and while it’s nice and does help in keeping your eyeshadow in place and on your face, it is not the best at keep certain kinds of loose eyeshadows in place and on your face. In fact, most of the standard eyeshadow primers (Too Faced Shadow Insurance, MAC Paint Pots, Shadesticks, Paints, Art Deco, Benefit Stay Don’t Stray) don’t really do much aiding and abetting in the longevity department for any loose eyeshadows, let alone the incredibly diverse and complex eyeshadows that Fyrinnae produces. In fact, mixing medium (the MAC kind, the Ben Nye kind, or the homemade kind – 3 parts H2O : 1 part Glycerin) sometimes isn’t enough to fully display and hold tribute to the duochrome present in the more complex Fyrinnae colors (i.e. the Arcane Magic line).

Luckily for us, the wily alchemists/designers/ formulators/ crazy wizards of awesome over at Fyrinnae realized that a different type of primer was needed to highlight the fabulousness hidden in the depths of their eyeshadows. So they produced the Pixie Epoxy, a water based gel primer with glycerin (for shellacking your shadows in place) and aloe gel (to soothe your delicate eyelids) that can hold glitter, pigment and shimmer to your lid, with NO FALLOUT.

Now, I’ve been discussing Fyrinnae eyeshadows but this works, literally for any. Don’t believe me?
Check out my original post about the Epoxy on my blog. Those shadows there which were from Fyrinnae, MAC and Chanel and ranged from loose, pigments, pressed and mineralized for the most part survived for 12 hours on my arm which was attached to my sleeping body. The biggest gripe with the epoxy is understanding the ratio of primer to eyeshadow needed to achieve a beautiful shimmer-y eye, because if you apply too much it can make the shadow chunky and hard to blend, too little and you’re going to have fall down, which is what you were avoiding in the first place when you decided you wanted to use this product. I sort of routed my way around that, not by scientifically analyzing the exact amount of epoxy needed for precise eyeshadow application, but by using it as a secondary base over a drier, more opaque eyeshadow base.

In conjunction with MAC paint pots, a teeny dab of epoxy on each lid gives you the perfect fall out free but blendable eyelid for you to conduct your daily homage to the goddess of color. In fact, I love this combo so much that I did another round of torture testing!
I used the double base method described above and the following Fyrinnae eyeshadows: Montalivet, Electro Koi, Red Panda, Medieval Haunting and Princess of Darkness (personal fave!). My look at how lovely and blended and vibrant the initial eye looks!
Now 12 hours later, and still no fall down and no creasing. There was a bit of a loss in vibrancy of the shadows, but for 12 hours to still see the individual colors of shadow is awesome in my book.
Now, I did sleep in my makeup, and I am an eye rubber at night. Meaning that sleeping in eyeshadow irritates the crap out of my eyes, so its very likely that I rubbed it off in a fit of annoyance that little shadow flecks were stabbing me in my cornea whilst sleeping, but when I woke up (approximately 24 hours after I had put on the makeup)the shadows were sadly gone. I can however, guesstimate that I achieved approximately 16 hours of wear from the eyeshadow, because I went to sleep around four hours after the 12 hour mark, and the look was still going strong. That’s insane! I normally get about 10 hours out of a MAC paint pot before it creases up on me, so by adding the Epoxy I extended the life of my eyeshadows by another 6 hours! Insane! Insanely Awesome!

The Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy can be purchased at
www.fyrinnae.com for $7 USD and as always, there is free shipping on orders over $20 USD! Fyrinnae ships to almost anywhere in the world for a nominal shipping charge.

  1. I love my Pixie Epoxy - I'll have to try that double base method. So I can dab the epoxy lightly on top of a p/p that's on my lid already and then go on about adding glittery shadows/pigement, etc??

    Thanks!

  3. I can't live without the Pixie Epoxy. It's one of the best things ever, and I totally agree - nothing else works quite like it!

  4. Ugh I must be the only person in the blogosphere that doesnt own Pixie Epoxy :( I've been meaning to buy it, but only after my Silk Naturals mixing medium runs out.

Sounds like it'd be great to counteract the blendability issues that UDPP presents :O

  5. Hey I do the same darn thing in my sleep with my makeup. When will I ever learn to take it off before I go to bed?! Actually, it's laziness. Putting my Neutragena wipes on the nightstand has helped with this matter tremendously! Nice blog!
