Taupes You Can't Have # 5 Club Monaco Quartz

I missed the end of the month yesterday because I was taking some time off. So today I start the month with another installment of TAUPES YOU CAN'T HAVE!

Joey and I, have been torturing your for a few months now by featuring a taupe eye shadow that is discontinued (DCed) and/or hard-to-find (HTF) at the end of each month. We think this an awesomely evil way to tease and torture our readers. We are such Sadists! Joey and I have a large collection of DCed and HTF taupe eye shadows so we decided they deserved love and publicity. The first month we featured MAC Innuendo, the second month we showed you Shu Uemura ME Silver 945. The third month was Cargo Yukon. The fourth month, a taupe I don't even have, Isadora Eye Shadow in Icy Khaki was featured. So what do I have for you this month?

Club Monaco eye shadow in Quartz.

Club Monaco is a Canadian clothing line usually sold in higher end stores. They had a cosmetic line several years ago and it was as clever and understated as their clothing designs. Some people may remember a specific interview that Monica Lewinsky did in 1999 where EVERYONE was dying to know what lipstick she was wearing. It did look stunning on her. Well, much like Ms. Lewinsky, Club Monaco Glaze lipstick earned its way to infamy...And much like Ms. Lewinsky when her 15 minutes of fame were up, so it seemed that Club Monaco Cosmetics' time was ticking away. The line disappeared from local Sephoras and became almost impossible to find anywhere. Now your best bet is Evilbay or through swaps. I wouldn't recommend buying lipstick or glosses from the line only because they are so old they may have turned. However, powder products have an extremely long shelf life and can be purchased or swapped for with little worry. By the way. Club Monaco made the most perfect Pink Brown lip liner that was better than WnW 666 and MAC Spice. Yeah it was holy grail status. I used up my last nub of that liner a year ago and I still have found nothing to replace it. OK Moving on.

I was given an unused Club Monaco Quartz eye shadow from my friend Tessa about a year ago. Club Monaco Quartz eye shadow is a frost formula. The shadows aren't hard per se, but they aren't buttery soft either. I would say they are close in consistency to Bobbi Brown shadows....firm, insanely pigmented and not powdery. The shadow itself sticks to your eyes like glue (Of course, with the right primer) and lasts for hours and hours. Quartz is a frost formula shadow that is truly a silvery brown. The frost formula makes it more light reflective so it can look different in different lights. The cool silver grey color is a true taupe and honestly I have yet to find another shadow that has the same quality and color as Club Monaco Quartz.

I think that Club Monaco MIGHT sell their cosmetics in their clothing retail stores, but honestly I have no idea if that is the case. Regardless, Quartz is a stunning taupe and Club Monaco had some other good taupe shadows so if you find some on evilbay or through other means, don't hesitate to snatch them up!

  1. I'm not sure I've ever seen makeup in that store, just perfume, but now I'll keep my eyes open just in case!

  2. Ah I used to own several things from their MU line. They were so good. I do think the whole thing has been DC'd though :(

  3. Oooh! Instant lemming created. Wish the CM line was still around. I loved it!

  4. I used to have some Club Monaco lipglosses and I loved them (I also used to wear a different oversized Club Monaco sweatshirt every single day, back when that was still their style, but that's neither here nor there). Unfortunately, the whole range is indeed discontinued. Fun fact, though: The man who created Club Monaco is responsible for creating a range called Joe Fresh (it's sold here in Canadian Superstores; I don't know if it's around in the States), which just launched a range of cosmetics. I've yet to try anything, but I've seen some great reviews online. Perhaps the formulas are similar? Next time I'm at the grocery store, I'll see if there's a dupe for this colour in the Joe Fresh range!

  5. I *loved* their eye greases - inside my head I was Debbie Harry and Robert Smith's love child. They really did rock, so sad when this line was discontinued.

  6. KittenMittens: Yeah. I don't think they make the cosmetics at all anymore...Such a bummer

ShortAndSweetNails: Yeah. I had a couple glosses, lipsticks, cheek dew and eye grease in addition to that lipliner I loved so much. :-(

Sabrina: I wish it was around too. Such awesome products with great packaging.

Becca: Ah ha! Joe Fresh! I knew there was some sort of connection1 Thanks for the update and your helpful comment!

Grace London: OMG the eye grease was awesome as well as the cheek dew. Loved that stuff!

Catherine: Yes. Yes it is! LOL

  8. Silhouette Screams. I understand...but right now I'm jealous of your easy access to Inglot cosmetics in Australia!

  9. Club Monaco!! OK, seriously, I have the holiest of holy grail lipsticks from CM (not Glaze, but the name escapes me at the moment). It is the Queen of All Pinky-Browns and I have never, ever, ever been able to find a dupe. Thank you for reminding me of this fab brand. *sniff*

  12. For some reason, I'm into the shimmery/glossy eye with liquid eyeliner a la "Mad Men". I found an old Club Monaco Eye Grease in Quicksand and it's just gorgeous! A creamy, glossy look and it doesn't crease at all (on me anyway). I figured I'd better re-up since I'm using so much of it...only to find that it was discontinued years ago. I have a (new) Revlon cream shadow quad but it's nowhere near as glossy.
