Thursday Poll

My birthday is next Friday (July 2nd) and for my birthday this year I would like the following. To have the freedom and benefits of being an adult without the responsibility. In other words I don't want to worry about paying bills, taxes, cleaning, getting my car repaired....Oh don't get me started on my car. I just found out I need about $2700 worth of work done to it. And it's not stuff even Mr. Sith can fix (He's pretty handy)! On top of that our dryer is on the fritz. We think it needs a new motor. Yep. That's right. It won't start. It makes this awful sound when you try to start sounds like a mechanical duck being strangled. Lovely huh? On top of the broken car and dryer, our Air Conditioner unit is so old that it qualified for Social Security Benefits last week. We will soon need to replace that and with a 100+ degree day forecast for the end of ONLY June I think I'm screwed. Now this may seem trivial to some...but let me put it in perspective for you. If have to pay for all that stuff BEFORE I can buy items from Chanel's new Fall 2010 collection. Yup. I thought that would make you see the agony I am in. Chanel's Fall 2010 collection has not just one but THREE new Joues Contraste blushes...and 2 are in the cool family! Do you know how long it has been since Chanel released 3 new JC blushes let alone cool toned ones? Arugh. It's killing me. Let's not even think about the new eyeshadow quad that had 2 count 'em 2 taupes and an eyeshadow single that is taupe. This Fall 2010 collection is looking to be one of Chanel's best in a long time. This is the kind of collection people will pine away for long after each limited edition Glossimer is gone. It sucks being an adult and having to put reliable transportation and clean clothing in front of new blush and eyeshadow. That's it. I'm too depressed to rant any further.
On To The Poll!

1. Blush Of The Day?
- Chanel Joues Contraste blush in Pink Satin. Years old and long since discontinued. this medium pink blush has teeny tiny silver shimmer that blends in perfectly with your skin and gives a perfect flushed look.

2. You discover that the person you're head-over-heels in love with, loves a good homemade & handmade dessert. What will you make when you have this person over? - Pie. Nothing is easier or more impressive than making a pie for someone you love. The crust isn't as hard to make as people think it is, and you can make it as neat or as rustic (read= sloppy) as you like and it will still taste awesome. Plus. Nothing beats a Strawberry Rhubarb pie with fresh whipped cream.

3. Latest beauty acquisition?
- Maybelline Falsies Mascara. I'm not sure if I love it as much as Maybelline Colossal Volume mascara but it's pretty mice. Definitely more volume than Colossal but the brush is kinda strange and a tad too flexible for my liking. Still though, a nice thick lash is the result. I'm biased toward Maybelline's my go to drugstore brand.

4. What is the longest book you ever read?
- Ooh. This isn't easy because I want to tell you all it was something really classic or something that would make me look like a super duper intellectual, but the honest answer is Stephen King's IT. Freakin' long ass book with like a zillion characters and a killer clown. I still to this day have no idea how I read the whole thing in a few nights....especially considering my hatred of clowns.

5. What pricey products are worth their weight in gold? - La Mer Loose Powder. This powder is so finely milled and has the perfect amount of shimmer (don't worry you won't get a disco ball look from this) that it gives you an airbrushed finish every time. Plus a little goes a long way. A full jar will last longer than a year.

  1. Expenses never come one at a time. I think it's the universe making you pick a priority. Car that runs vs. air conditioning? Dryer vs. your fav makeup collection?

Life SHOULD be fair! I stand by my opinion too.

I'm hoping you a windfall of money to take care of it all. :)

  2. Blush of the Day? Clinique Precious Posy. This is the only Clinique blush I love, it is my HG in the line, for $18.50 it lasts almost a full year with almost daily use.

The person I'm head over heels in love with wants a homade dessert? Hmm, no he doesn't, mine wants homade meatloaf and mashed potatoes. He once confessed this to me, really these aren't the hardest things in the world to make. However, I make whipped potatoes, add about a pound of butter and whole milk and take a mixer and whip until fluffy, heaven! Haven't made this for him yet, but hope to someday.

Latest Beauty Acquisition? L'Oreal Pigment Stick in Alluring. IT's TAUPE!!! But the packaging and form of the products are horrible. I plan to take an MUAer's advice and reduce it to a powder and put in a jar.

Longest Book ever read? Gone with the Wind, I think. YES, I DID read the book which is MUCH better. There may be longer ones of read, but this was the best.

Pricey Product well worth it's weight in gold? Hmmmm, not sure I don't but alot of Chanel, or La Mer or Dior, but my personal "worth it's weight in gold" product would have to be MAC Blot Powder. I discovered it about a year ago and have been through quite a few compacts of it so far.

Oh and yes, like Rosanne Rosannadana used to say "It'a ALLWAAYSS Sumpthin'!"

  3. 1. MUFE Lavender 9 matte
    2. Red Velvet cake. I makean excellent red velvet cake.
    3. Some MAC stuff. I received a lovely gift card for my birthday and picked up a lipstick, lipliner and 3 pro pans
    4. Uhm, I've read a lot of long books. Possibly one of the Robert Jordan books.
    5. Too Faced Shadow Insurance. The fact that I can wear eye shadow and have it stay on all day and not crease is priceless. Plus, my first tube lasted me more than a year, and I use it ALL the time.

  4. 1. Blush Of The Day? Mac Hipness

    2. You discover that the person you're head-over-heels in love with, loves a good homemade & handmade dessert. What will you make when you have this person over? A Blueberry Boy Bait. No kidding (it involves blueberries and meringue)

    3. Latest beauty acquisition? - Lancôme La Tulipe Noire eyeshadow (it's taupe, hum)

    4. What is the longest book you ever read? the last volume of Stig Larsson's Millenium, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, was quite long, but I loved it.

    5. What pricey products are worth their weight in gold? -I'm not sure I've come across something like that already.

  5. Ugh - I feel you on those car issues. I'll never drive a VW again!!
    1. BOTD - BB bronzing/blush duo. Med. bronzer - nice golden brown without shimmer and a pop of Peony (bright pink) for a dash of color.

    2. The first desert I ever made my husband was homemade chocolate pudding but I think I really won him over when I made chocolate chip blondies. I have also made a coconut cake for his birthday from scratch...I'm a cake girl.

    3. Latest beauty acquisition? Last night at Sephora - travel sized Purity cleanser and Dior skintint from their new revamnped skincare line. I love how pigmented it is and it doesn't freak my sensitive skin out!

    4. Longest book I read - sad to say but more like "attempted" to read: Anne Rice's Witching Hour. After page 489 I gave up and couldn't get into it anymore.

    5. Pricey product worth it's weight in gold? I have to say it's Chanel's Hydramax Active Serum/gel cream - together it would retail $210 not as much as the suped up La Mer Jug but this combo really smoothed my skin out and I have issues (read: eczema/rosacea outbreaks). I have yet to buy this duo and I have been surviving on samples for months.

  6. We, too, had no A/C in the car ($1300 repair...yikes!) and currently have a non-working dryer (the neighbors are loving the series of drying racks lined up on the deck), plus there is a water heater issue...I feel your pain, Elvira.

    1. BOTD: Chanel JC blush in Rose Petale with Empreinte de Chanel as a highlighter.

    2. My guys loves cheesecake, which is good since it is one of the few desserts I'm capable of making.

    3. Latest acquisition: 2 Stila shadows (Espresso and Pewter) and their loose powder in "Fair." Very happy with all three.

    4. Longest book: Probably "Pillars of the Earth," or possibly "Gone With the Wind," not sure which is longer.

    5. Pricey products: Too Faced Shadow Insurance and Chanel Uv Essentiel Protective Uv Care Anti Pollution Spf 50. No eyeshadow creasing is an important issue to me, and the Chanel sunscreen has a ludicrous price tag but is by far the best I have ever tried. Ever. However, the search continues for something a little less pricey.

  7. I complain to the boyfriend all the time that I hate being an adult. It really sucks sometimes.

    1. Cover Girl Simply Ageless cream blush in Lush Berry. Cannot recommend it enough. It lasts forEVER, minimizes my cavernous pores, and the color is absolutely glowy.

    2. The boyfriend is obsessed with my vegan chocolate chip cookies. I must admit it's a kickass recipe that I've created from taking bits and pieces from other recipes and a lot of trial and error. But these cookies taste like full fat, full cholesterol cookies. People gasp when they taste one and then I tell them they're vegan and made w/o processed sugar, etc. and they never believe me. I am not vegan (I love cheese too much), but when I make desserts, I figure it's almost guilt-free if I make them with the most natural, healthy ingredients possible.

    3. I also just bought Falsies and I agree with your comments. I'm still in testing mode, but I'm on the fence about it, especially given how much I love Colossal Volum'.

    4. Since I was an English major, I have to say the Norton Anthology of English Literature. OK OK, I didn't read it cover to cover, but I swear I've read through the majority of it. Probably 90%.

    5. Well first of all, "pricey" for you and "pricey" for me are two different worlds. Haha. But I have two picks: 1) Chantecaille Frangipane edp. There is nothing that compares the creaminess of this fragrance. Forever and always I will be obsessed. 2) Living Proof Wave Shaping Curl Defining Styling Cream. I never knew truly frizz-free, healthy, bouncy, wavy hair before I used this product.

  8. 1. Blush of the Day?- Becca beach tint in peach
    2. What will you make when you have this person over?- I made him homemade ice cream once. He liked that. O and homemade cream puffs...though i think i may have liked them more than him.
    3. Latest beauty acquisition?- my tria system. I really like the light so far. I havent put the skincare items into my routine yet because I have to integrate one thing at a time.
    4. Longest book you ever read?- the odessey....snooze snooze snooze. I had to read it for class.
    5. what pricey products are worth their weight in gold?- armani eyes to kill mascara. I love me some good mascara and I cant wait to get the new wp version.

  9. Ergh, when it rains it sure does pour! I love how those big expenses always pop up together...

Blush: nada, usually don't wear it anyway.

I make a mean key lime pie with merengue topping totally from scratch, so I will second your suggestion of pie.

Essence mascara from Ulta, not bad for $3.49! Also, finally picked up boy bait & a couple new brushes from MAC & used a GC to get NARS violetta & LM topaz from Sephora. I am loving all of it!

Longest book? That's a tough question... most recently probably The Decameron, which was made twice as long because I had to also read the English translation & all the footnotes in order to have an inkling as to what's going on. I know I've read several other books that were over 1,000 pages, but I can't think of them...

Le Metier de Beaute papaya creme gloss. Simply amazing! I want so much more from this line!

  10. I'm so sorry about the expenses, Slutbutt. I hope you find the money for everything PLUS the Chanel!

    1. Blush Of The Day? - MAC Afterdusk, my favorite (and of course it was LE and now DCed) bright warm pink, shot with gold shimmer. Perfect, PERFECT flush.

    2. You discover that the person you're head-over-heels in love with, loves a good homemade & handmade dessert. What will you make when you have this person over? - Oh, easy: my cheesecake. It's phenomenal. I mix cream cheese and marscapone, and I don't use a crust. I make it in a Bay Marie so it rises and stiffens but stays creamy...yum. And I top it with fresh strawberries and raspberries!

    3. Latest beauty acquisition? - (PBI: Falsies is great but there is a trick to the brush...) Um, Estee Lauder cream shadow in Silver Leaf, MUFE #129 eyeshadow, and my 10 round pan Inglot palette =) I need to send you a pic of the Inglot palette!

    4. What is the longest book you ever read? - Um...which is longer: War and Peace or Gone With The Wind?

    5. What pricey products are worth their weight in gold? - I completely agree with the La Mer Loose Powder.

  11. 1. Stila Hibiscus Convertible Color
    2. I will buy him ice cream. I do not cook, bake, etc.
    3. My Stila Travel Palette- the first one in this summer series...all pink/purple e/s shades and the Hibiscus convertible color. I'm a Stila ho.
    4. Gone With the Wind, probably
    5. Clarins self-tanners FTW!

  12. I feel your pain. They say the middle class is the hardest hit by the economy woes. I believe it based on talking to everyone around me. My job is 45 minutes away and I freaking PRAY every time that my old ass car doesn't break down. Scary! My AC is making strange noises like it's working to get up a hill. Please do not break Mr. Frosty! Now for that electric bill with the AC running.. sigh. As for make up.. my heart also hurts by your news of a chanel taupe. Taupe is a color I need to add to my eyeshadow collection in the worst way. I have always wanted to try Chanel but umm.. not this year! I've been looking at old pictures of the super model Gia because the movie with Angelina Jolie was just on Lifetime and it got me wanting to look at pictures of the real Gia, the BEST most intense fashion model ever, I loved her Cosmo covers way before Cindy Crawford ever came along. Her look was So winter/fall dark hair, taupe, browns, rich earthy color theme. I want taupe so bad! Ok sorry. on to the questions!

    1. Blush : Revlon cream blush works nicely. Then I add a little Bobbi Brown Peony if it needs a pop of bright. Thank God blush lasts a long time!

    2. Dessert? I am a lucky lady in that my fiance
LOVES to cook, he will cook me anything and everything as long as I do the dishes. Deal! He recently made us a Rhubarb crumble. Yum.

    3. Latest Beauty Buy: An eyeshadow base in off white. Boring but necessary.

    4. Longest Book: Off the top of my head it's the Barbra Striesand Bio I read last summer. I heart Babs.

    5. Pricey and worth it's weight: For me pricey is a 50 dollar Bobbi Brown foundation. I swear by Extra spf tinted moisturizing balm in alabaster. I am very very very dry. This is a little shiny and dewy and a lot of ladies hate shine but when you are as dry as a desert, I'll take shine and dew. Being so pale, this shade is a god send. It makes my skin look great even when it looks like crap. I am dreading the day it runs out because I am not living in the land of a 50 dollar foundation just now!

Sorry this ls long but I enjoyed writing this and reading everyones entries. xo

PS: I was so happy to read that my PInk Sith is using an old Chanel blush. I have so much make up. It doesn't stop me one bit from wanting new make up, but really sometimes you are forced to use what ya got. :)
