A little over a month ago I was sent an introductory kit from Exuviance for Oily/Acne prone skin. (A Neostrata company) While most of the products in the kit are hardly worth mentioning, I must say there was one star in that kit that I plan to purchase in its full size.
Exuviance Night Renewal HydraGel
According to the manufacturer, the gel contains Phytotal® which apparently is a botanical blend of oil-reducing ingredients that help decrease excess oiliness and shine without stripping your skin of its natural moisture. Exuviance Night Renewal HydraGel contains Polyhydroxy and Alpha Hydroxy Acids (PHA/AHA) which aid in repairing your skin.
“Gluconolactone (PHA) helps refine skin texture and pore size, while diminishing dark spots and uneven pigmentation, rebuilding the skin's matrix to reveal softer, plumper skin. Mandelic Acid, a naturally occurring Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) found in almonds, helps smooth away the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while controlling oil production, transforming oily, uneven skin with enlarged pores into a smoother, healthier looking complexion while you sleep.”I have to tell you that sounds really nice, BUT does it really do all that? Well…Sort of.
The results I found were not revealed as much when I was using the product but more so when I stopped using the product. I did notice, while I was using Exuviance Night Renewal HydraGel, that my skin felt smoother and that I awoke every morning to a nice clear glowing face. I did NOT notice any reduction in pore size during my 30 day trial nor did I see any significant changes in wrinkles. I did, however, notice a slight lightening of sun damage and acne scars on my cheeks. However it was only slight. By the end of the 30 day period I noticed my skin tone evening out slightly.
Here’s the kicker.
When I stopped using the Exuviance Night Renewal HydraGel I noticed I started breaking out all of a sudden. I noticed I had a few more blackheads around my chin and more clogged pores around my forehead. When I stopped using Exuviance Night Renewal HydraGel and went back to using some other products that had worked for me in the past, it was almost like my skin was angry with me for stopping this product. I think back to that 30 day trial and I realized that I didn’t have one breakout the entire time (except for a small reaction to a face primer I was testing). Could this be a Holy Grail product? Well the only way to tell was to start using it again and see for sure. I haven’t been using it (again) for all that long, but my face has calmed down quite a bit, but I am still getting some tiny flare-ups (acne) so time will tell.
This night time moisturizer is ideal for those with oily skin who also need some natural acids to gently exfoliate the skin as well as help diminish pore size (by removing debris in the pores thereby making them look smaller than they are) , lessen the look of acne scars and treat some wrinkles at the same time. I was skeptical when I started using Exuviance Night Renewal HydraGel that my skin wasn’t getting enough moisture. Some things people forget when dealing with oily skin is that while you want to stop the over production of oil, you DON’T want to dehydrate your skin. Dehydrating your skin will only make your skin produce even more oil to over compensate. Well I found this wasn't a problem at all. My skin never looked and felt so refreshed.
The Exuviance Night Renewal HydraGel is scented. I can’t place my finger on the scent but it is sort of floral and fruity at the same time. It’s very light and does not linger at all. The Exuviance Night Renewal HydraGel doesn’t feel like a typical moisturizer. It is a smooth, almost runny gel that smoothed on my face easily. The gel absorbs quickly, however if you apply too much, your face is sort of sticky. Being that this is a night treatment there isn’t much to worry about it interfering with makeup.
Because of the sample size of the product I was given I had to use my fingers to scoop out the product. I’m not sure if the full size product comes with a pump or not, but I would like to have a pump because it is easy to use too much product. I did find that a little goes a long way with this product and that I still have a lot of product left over in my small sample jar at the end of the 30 day trial period.
Do you NEED this? Well if you have acne prone and oily skin I recommend this highly. If you have dry or sensitive skin that breaks out I don’t think this product will provide enough moisture for you and for people with sensitive skin the acids may irritate your skin. So I say Skip the Exuviance Introductory Collection - Oily / Acne Prone Skin That costs $40. Honestly the Cleanser is average, the Matt Perfection Gel didn’t work on me at all, the Purifying Clay Masque was a basic clay masque and worked as well as any kaolin clay mask does and the Sheer Refining Fluid, while nice and moisturizing, had a heavy sunscreen scent and felt almost oily on my face. The 15 SPF factor is personally not strong enough but absolutely fine for every day use. The Exuviance Night Renewal HydraGel retails for $40 US for 1.75 oz bottle.

Wow, glad to hear that it's good for you! When I tried Exuviance, I fell in love with their Purifying Gel Cleanser. I plan on repurchasing it once my bottle is empty.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear about the product. If it did work for you such as this then it should be very good to treat black heads and pigmentation too.
