On Wednesday Elvira reviewed the Exuviance Night Renewal HydraGel, one of the items she had received in the Exuviance Introductory Collection for Oily/Acne-Prone skin. I also had received the Exuviance Introductory Collection, but for Dry/Sensitive Skin, so here’s my take on it:
Now, Elvira and I have a rule for testing skincare - we have to use something for 30 days before we feel we can definitively say if something worked for us. I tell you this because the products in the Exuviance Introductory Collection were way too small to use for 30 days in a row. I ran out of the Hydrating Eye Complex, the Multi-Protective Day Fluid SPF 15, and the Evening Restorative Complex in a week (yes, a week!). So, what I describe will be based off of 7 days of usage...which is definitely not enough time for a thorough review of skincare. Oy.
I thought the skincare, for the week that I used the system, was pretty good. I didn’t have any irritation or breakouts, because the products were quite gentle. Also, my skin had a very nice glow to it whenever I used the cleanser and the toner - my two favorite products. However, there were no huge differences in my skin. I can’t tell you if this had anything to do with the efficiency of the products or the fact that I just had too little of the products to test. The Multi-Protective Day Fluid SPF 15 and the Evening Restorative Complex were just very basic skin creams; I found the day cream to be a bit too heavy for day, and the night cream to be a bit too lightweight for night. However, they both moisturized well enough. The Hydrating Eye Complex was interesting: the texture felt almost silicone-y, which I enjoyed because it allowed my concealer to glide right over my eyes and not settle into areas. Also, it was moisturizing enough that my under-eyes did not feel tight. The Gentle Cleansing Creme was perfect for the mornings - it refreshed my skin without causing redness and also added some much needed moisture. However, it is not cleansing enough to remove my makeup at night (I do wear a ton of makeup, so most people would probably be fine to use it at night). The Soothing Toner Lotion was perfect for both day or night, removing grime, makeup residue, and grease while still adding moisture to my skin. Sadly, though, nothing was spectacular or standout. The products were nice. They worked. But there were no miracles, no “OOH-ing” or “AHH-ing” whenever I used anything. If I had to pick a favorite product, it was probably the Soothing Toner Lotion. That, I’d actually repurchase. The Hydrating Eye Complex was a very close runner-up.
My main gripe with this product has to do with the tiny sizes. This collection retails for $40USD on the website, but you really only get about a week’s (or maybe two, if you’re lucky) worth of the entire regimen. This is nice if you’re traveling, but $40 for very tiny travel sizes still seems steep to me. It’s almost ridiculous when you consider that, for example, a full-size of the cleanser and toner (each 7.2oz) retails for $28 USD each. The sizes in the $40 kit for both products is 2oz. In my opinion, one would be better off just ordering the products from the kit in their full sizes. I just can’t recommend buying this kit at the price it retails for!
