Review by Joeybunny - Kenzo Jungle EDP

When I think of the jungle, I think of a few things like:
1) The Jungle Book

2) that godawful Tim Allen movie Jungle2Jungle

3) Tarzan

4) An abundance of monkeys and rain

What I don’t normally think about is incense and sex; these two things are, however, what come to mind when I smell the heady and quite sensual Kenzo Jungle Eau de Parfum.

I am a connoisseur of Kenzo fragrances: I have actually tried almost every scent the company currently has to offer. Strangely enough, Kenzo Jungle was one of the few to elude me. I say this is strange, because Kenzo Jungle is the least flowery and most masculine/potent scent Kenzo offers for women - and we all know that I am obsessed with woody, oriental perfumes. I’m sorry, I like to smell like a sweaty, sexed-up dude. I just prefer heavier scents. I feel like I always have to explain myself every time I do a perfume review. Anyway, Kenzo was gracious enough to send me a bottle of Kenzo Jungle to try and review, so thank you Kenzo!

Now, it’s also
a general truth that Kenzo FlowerbyKenzo is my Holy Grail scent, so what I’m about to say is major: Kenzo Jungle might bump FlowerbyKenzo out of that spot. It’s that damn good. So, enough of my harping and let’s see what Kenzo has to say about this delectable, devious fragrance:

“At the heart of lush and luxuriant nature, a violet palm tree leaf springs forth…A journey into an imaginary and resolutely modern world. This spicy oriental scent is enriched with notes of mandarin and cardamom. A fragrance of obvious character, infused with warmth and color.”

Great imagery, no? This might be one of the most accurate descriptions ever. This is violent. This is warm. This is very lush. This scent isn’t necessarily for the faint of heart. The initial spray is a burst of cardamom and wood, which delivers an intense burst that smells of warm incense. It’s heady for sure (my ladyboss, who shares my deep love of wood scents, said she wouldn’t necessarily wear this in the summer), and the summer heat only emphasizes the effect.

The drydown is much more relaxed, a harmonic blend of mandarin and ylang-ylang (luckily I smell more of the ylang-lang on my skin), and what seems to be a white musk. It is truly intoxicating, and as I type this, I keep taking typing breaks to sniff my skin. I have received many compliments on it (although my favorite nose, that of my best guy friend, has yet to smell me while I’m wearing this), and I just love to spray myself with it – the bottle is just so pretty, with the gold elephant and sculpted glass.

If you want a supremely sexy, head-turning fragrance, I definitely recommend Kenzo Jungle. And if anyone has any favorite woody or oriental scents, share them with me! I’m always on the lookout to try a new perfume.

  1. Is it wrong that I want to own the bottle and never wear the fragrance? This perfume sounds like a winner for those that like those manly/woody/oriental scents!

  3. Yeah I will be the broken record - you had me with the bottle design alone. I do like the heavy woody scents for the Fall and I have recently discovered a lonely Kenzo Flower sample that was slipped into a Sephora online order I received in December. It is a lovely scent!

  4. I'm pretty fond of Flower by Kenzo, so I think I'd also probably like this. I have a request: more perfume reviews please! :) I regularly visit nst and others, but I like that you like what you like.

  5. I must try this one. I do like strong perfumes too. Like Angel, and some love that one, other say it smells like armpit. Do yo think this one is something like Angel?

  6. Elvira, yes, totally wrong LOL =D

LovelyAndroid, it's such a great scent!

    Lexi, isn't FlowerbyKenzo just divine?

Ida, aw this made my day! I love perfume reviews and I will definitely do more of them! xo

Anony, I have and adore Angel. This isn't a gourmand scent like Angel, though, nor are the wood/musk notes covered up by sweeter notes like in Angel. Angel is a scent that starts off soft and becomes stronger as it dries down. Kenzo Jungle is the opposite - it starts off strong but mellows down. I hope that helps!
