Thursday Poll
Is it wrong to make fun of the little inspirational quotes found inside of the wrappers of Dove Promises Chocolates? Am I THAT cynical that I find the aspiring poets of the world annoying? Now when you check the Dove Chocolates Promises website don't confuse the quotes I am speaking of with the "Inspirational" messages for the Susan G. Komen organization which is dedicated towards finding a cure for breast cancer. No. The quotes I am speaking of are random muses submitted by consumers. "Find a silver lining in every cloud." Maryanne Spokane, WA or "Give yourself a hug." Kelly Garland, TX. Ugh. Regardless of the reason for the poetry, I'm a horrible person for making fun of it. Perhaps I'm just bitter because I don't want a person quoting something schmaltzy (Yiddish slang for excessively sentimental...among other things) to me as I stuff chocolate in my face. Perhaps I'm guilty because I know that eating chocolate is not part of a healthy diet and someone is quoting inspiring things to me when they should be saying: "Do you really need more chocolate, fatty?" Sue Mt. Airy, NC or how about "Treadmill STAT" Jane Brentwood, TN Better yet, how about "You are never going to get a man looking like that so you might as well eat more chocolate." Janet Columbus, OH Too long? How about "Have another chocolate, it's not like the zit on your chin could get any bigger." Ida St. Cloud, MN. Of course my bright idea may cause people to stop eating Dove chocolate, but it would be far more entertaining to read. I would talk back to the wrappers and tell them what I really think. I would criticize their inferior aluminum foil strength and scrunch them up into little balls and play trashcan basket ball with them (I do this now regardless of the quote inside)...which brings me to my point. Yes. I DO have a point. I talk to inanimate items. I yell at the fridge door for swinging closed on me while I fill up a glass of water. I talk to my car all the time. I yell at makeup while it falls to the floor, telling it to "watch out". I call may computer a "Jerk" all the time and I can't even repeat what I said to the dryer when it broke down last week, it's far to obscene. Why do we, as human, assign human qualities to almost everything in our life? What is it Mother Nature? Why are Boats and Cars Female? Why do we think talking to our computer screen or television will some how make it work more efficiently? Are we lonely? Do we have to make everything "human"to validate our behavior or our existence? We assign feelings to machines. "My car isn't feeling well." "My Computer dying." "My lawnmower is hungry!" (Really? Have I ever said this? No. but I'm at a loss for examples that prove my point. Work with me) I think assigning feelings to objects and talking to said objects keeps us entertained and connected to the world around us. As we humans grow more and more apart from people and more connected to electronic things, (Smart phones, Computers, etc.) I only see this happening more and more. Soon we will develop robots to interact with and from there will come the fall of human civilization as we know it. Because as we all know the robot uprising will happen. That's why we all need to read this book: "How To Survive a Robot Uprising: Tips on Defending Yourself Against the Coming Rebellion" by Daniel Wilson. The man is a genius. We should all heed his advice.
(No I'm not crazy, I'm just being silly)
On To The Poll!
1. Lip Of The Day? - Chanel Rouge Allure Laque in Ming. Quite possibly my perfect pink liquid lipstick. I may need to purchase a 2nd one as the one I have is almost gone...not that I can really tell since the container is opaque.
2. When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up? Did you achieve that? - I wanted to be a doctor when I was little. I read a few autobiographies about women doctors and thought that would be the neato keen thing to be when I grew up. I asked for a copy of the book Grays Anatomy (Not that dumb TV show) for a birthday and I studied it like crazy. I retained nothing from my studies, sadly. My dreams of becoming a Doctor were cut short when I went into a hospital for the first time. The smell smacked me in the face and all those sick people? Yuk! No thank you. I changed my mind right on the spot. I decided to become a lawyer instead. Neither career choice worked out for me.
3. It seems like the fall cosmetic collections are being released earlier & earlier each year. Have you indulged in any of the fall collections yet? Do you plan to purchase anything from the fall collections? - Well I think by reading last week's Thursday poll you know I am dying to get my hands on the Chanel fall collection. But as of today I haven't purchased a single thing.
4. White, Milk, or Dark Chocolate? - I love milk chocolate but sometimes I just like a nice 60% dark chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate. White chocolate is an abomination.
5. What is your favorite "Season" for makeup? In other words do you prefer Spring, Summer, Fall or Holiday/Winter collections? - Honestly I love Fall collections. They have the most taupe shades ever and usually start introducing deep berry lip shades as well. Plus more cool toned colors come out in the Fall and I just prefer those.

white chocolate isn't really chocolate at all, I say!
ReplyDelete1. Lipstick Queen Medieval - probably the only red I will ever have the balls to wear. Non scary and sheer, gives a really even stain on wearing off! No hot pink clown lips (hello benetint)
ReplyDelete2. An archery type person. I'd say archer but it sounds so Robin Hood. I'm ok at it, but not going to compete in the Olympics anytime soon.
3. Nothing yet - nothing, including Chanel! is grabbing me - but I'm not a Rouge Coco fan and I think those are the only new fall lipstick colours.
4. Dark. Super dark - practically pure. 80% is great. You can go all whisky connoiseur at that %, since different estate choc have different nuances, just like whisky.
5. I love summer ones, even though I never really buy much except the lip stuff. I'm too scared to wear the bolder shades, although they are gorgeous - like that Chanel summer with the beautiful turquoisey eye shade.
Ah yes, if chocolate came with inspirational quotes, we would all be thin and beautiful... Hilarious!
ReplyDelete1. Lip Of The Day? - I've been loving a Chanel lipstick that I received from Jamilla. The bright coral color makes me look awake even though I work 12+ hour workdays, every day.
2. When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up? Did you achieve that? - I wanted to be an engineer. I grew up watching Star Trek The Next Generation, and I always wanted to be Geordi. I did turn out to be an engineer, although, not on a starship!
3. It seems like the fall cosmetic collections are being released earlier & earlier each year. Have you indulged in any of the fall collections yet? Do you plan to purchase anything from the fall collections? - Nope, I'm still waiting for In The Groove!
4. White, Milk, or Dark Chocolate? - I agree with you that white chocolate is just... not chocolate! Milk chocolate or dark chocolate, depending on how tired I am(=how much sugar I need)
5. What is your favorite "Season" for makeup? In other words do you prefer Spring, Summer, Fall or Holiday/Winter collections? - If summer in Japan was not as hot and humid as it actually is, I would love summer makeup. As it is, I enjoy every season. I love wearing light, bright colors in summer. I love taupes (like you!) in the fall. I love wearing deep lipsticks in the winter. When spring rolls around, I'm ready for lighter colors again!
Dak chocolate is the best-tasting (and most healthful). I LURVE it and basically subsist on it. "White chocolate' is a misnomer; it should be called "edible candle wax".
ReplyDeletethat is all.
1. MAC VGV l/g - I had an early morning and wanted something neutral/warmish to go with the rest of my FOTD. Quick and easy!
ReplyDelete2. Art teacher. Nope, I'm not that talented. I did end up being a special ed math teacher though! =)
3. Haven't bought anything yet. I'm on a $100/mo low-buy that I'm trying to stick to, so I don't tend to buy things really early. Waiting for MAC In The Groove this month, that'll be the bulk of my budget. The Chanel quad IS tempting though, even though I've never coughed up the cash for Chanel before.
4. All of the above! I really love semi-sweet chips out of the bag. I do like white chocolate, like the white chocolate Reece's PB cups. I don't care for milk chocolate when it's TOO milky.
5. Summer, hands down. All the warmth works for my skin tone - bronzes, corals, I love it.
You actually made me spit out my coffee with "Do you really need more chocolate, fatty?" You, my dear, are all kinds of awesome. Put THAT on your chocolate wrapper!
ReplyDelete1. Chanel Charisma--an older RA that is peachy coral and not too loud.
ReplyDelete2. When I was really little I loved strawberries and lived in So.CAL. Sometimes after grocery shopping or errands, my mom would stop by a strawberry stand (yes, Virginia, back in the old days there were whole fields of strawberries in Calif) and I loved fresh strawberries so much I wanted to be a strawberry picker when I grew up--yes, I had high aspirations.
3. I got a few things yesterday from the Chanel Fall collection Taupe Grise among them--neener neener!
4. Milk chocolate always!
5. Hmmm, probably Summer and Holiday
"Is it wrong to make fun of the little inspirational quotes found inside of the wrappers of Dove Promises Chocolates?"
ReplyDeleteNo, this is exactly, EXACTLY what you should be doing. I eat chocolate because I want to be eating chocolate, not for desperate inspirational messages.
I haven't started talking to inanimate objects just yet, but I do talk to my dog constantly. Even when we're outside on walks. But he is a pug, which is more of an alien monkey, so I think he understands me.
I love your blog and will be linking to you. That way I won't forget to come back! Thanks!
I pissed off a friend once when she posted some mushy, sentimental quote on her fb page and I asked if that was a "Deep Thought by Jack Handy." She didn't think it was funny.
ReplyDelete1. Laura Mercier lip stain in Mocha.
2. I wanted to be a photographer, still my number one hobby. I love it too much to do it for money.
3. I don't buy stuff from collections, I think it's such a scam and hate when things are LE and ppl go crazy for stuff and sell them on ebay for $$$$$
4. I don't like chocolate (gasp!)
5. I do like to look at fall/winter stuff because they usually have darker colors.
1. Lip of the Day?- Shu lollishine in 322...i think thats what I it. such a pretty coral for summer :)
ReplyDelete2. When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up and did you achieve that?- I wanted to be a vet. I absolutely loved animals and still do. But then, one day, the vet put my dog down, and I decided that I could never do that. However, I am still a dog foster :)
3. Have you indulged in any of the fall collections yet? Do you plan to purchase anything from the fall collections?- i havent indulged yet. I'm trying to ignore fall because i want to enjoy summer!
4. White, milk or dark chocolate?- I am an all opportunity chocolate lover. However, I do only like white when it isnt on its own. For instance, I am addicted to Hersheys hugs and white chocolate reeces
5. What is your favorite season for makeup?- I love the bright blues, corals and bronzes of summer
1. Lip Of The Day? - Bobbi Brown Tulle Brown - the perfect neutral pink on me - creamy almost matte.
ReplyDelete2. When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up? Did you achieve that? - I wanted to be one of the Solid Gold dancers or a Fly Girl. No - I didn't - I liked school too much and got my masters in Sociology instead...now I do HR. Does anyone ever dream of being an HR Manager when they grow up? Something tells me no.
3. It seems like the fall cosmetic collections are being released earlier & earlier each year. Have you indulged in any of the fall collections yet? I did purchase my first Chanel in a long time - I got the Enigma quad and the Paradoxal nail polish. After swatching these at Zitomer, I lost my sense. But I don't regret it - they're both gorgeous.
4. White, Milk, or Dark Chocolate? - I like all chocolate but dark is my #1 love.
5. What is your favorite "Season" for makeup? In other words do you prefer Spring, Summer, Fall or Holiday/Winter collections? - Fall because I love lipstick and summer isn't very conducive to wearing deep reds - I hate having to worry if my lipstick is too much. In winter, it's never too much.
I loathe schmaltz (I called it schmaltz before calling it schmaltz was cool). I hate those annoying chain emails people send with angels and cherubs and crap. Barf. Anyhoo...
ReplyDelete1. Revlon Rosy Nude. It's meh.
2. I wanted to be a stock broker and have a corner office and wear power suits and sexy high heeled shoes. Instead I became a labor and delivery nurse. I wade in every kind of bodily fluid imaginable, wear scrubs, and my shoes are not even close to sexy.
3. I pick up Petticoat to have a backup for the one I already have. Other than that, the only thing I want is the UD Naked palette.
4. Dark chocolate, por favor. Semi sweet is dreamy.
5. I prefer fall, because like you, I am a taupe lovah.
The word I have to type in for word verification on this post is "pudge." Even my computer thinks I'm fat, apparently.
Erm, that was supposed to read, "I MAY pick up Petticoat."
ReplyDeleteIn the UK we don't get inspirational messages on chocolate bars- but on the children's chocolate we do get crap jokes and reminders to brush our teeth!
ReplyDelete1. BYS French Pink lipliner and Bourjois Eau de Gloss in Framboise Glacee.
2. When I was little I think I wanted to be a librarian... I'm still in uni though so who knows ;)
3. Fall collections seem irrelevant in June/July. It's like Christmas stuff in August/September! I probably won't purchase anything because by the time I have money all the goodies will be gone!
4. Dark chocolate, preferably 85% or 99%... Beautiful.
5. I really like Winter and Summer, I love the dark, dramatic shades that come out in Winter and the bright eye-catching shades that come out in Summer. I guess Spring and Autumn are softer and that doesn't really appeal to me.
1. Lip Of The Day? lipbalm
ReplyDelete2. When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a secretary, a helicopter pilot or a teacher. What I did never want to be was a marketing product manager, but life is full of surprises. I did graduate as a teacher, though, and interestingly it helps me a lot in my job (as in when I need to present stuff and take my audience by the hand so they come to the same conclusions as me with the impression they did find out themselves, haha)
3. It seems like the fall cosmetic collections are being released earlier & earlier each year. Have you indulged in any of the fall collections yet? Do you plan to purchase anything from the fall collections?
If I could, I'd sleep from November to April and would live only for the sunny days, so no, I'm not looking forward to buying Fall colors in June. Plus, they're not available here anyway: we get them at the end of September.
4. White, Milk, or Dark Chocolate? Even though I'm Belgian, I'm not really into chocolate, but Milk is my fave.
5. What is your favorite "Season" for makeup? I love Fall because you can start wearing darker colors and still use some bright ones in combination with them. But then I wear what I want all year long anyway.
