Thursday Poll
This Friday I will be taking a 6 hour car ride with Mr. Sith and Darthypie. Since Darthypie is only 3 and a half it's hard to imagine a 6 hour car ride will be enjoyable. I believe that our portable DVD player is broken and being strapped down in a car seat for 6 hours is going to make Darthypie quite cranky. If anyone knows of any helpful hints to keep a young sith entertained for that long of a ride (aside from playing hackey sack with ewoks that is) is more than welcome to leave your advice in the comments section. The reason I'm going on this long ride is because I have to attend a funeral. I am not posting about this so I can get sympathy from all of you, I just know you are probably curious and I don't want to make something up. My Uncle Mike died this week. He was really cool guy. He was fairly old and had a really interesting life. He served in the US Navy, he was an electrical technician/engineer and he was a decent blackjack player as well. In fact he did fairly well playing blackjack. I always thought that was pretty cool. I mistakenly thought he knew how to count cards, but he said he never did...plus that's cheating in a way. He was awesome with kids. My cousins and I all loved spending time with him. He always talked to us like we were adults and not little kids. He was patient and understanding. He told great stories and always was willing to play games. He had a boxing speed bag in the basement of his house and was so good at getting the rhythm down to look like a professional. I could never master it. He took me to my first Broadway show, A Chorus Line. (yeah I'm THAT old) and he took me to my first and last circus. (Yeah I hate the circus...clowns are evil). He was certainly kooky, he had some eccentricities, but I overlooked them, because he was Uncle Mike. I'm sad that he is gone, but I'm kinda happy for him as well. He had suffered from sever dementia near the end of his life,to the point where he didn't recognize anyone. He had lost a lot of weight and had really withered away. I guess his suffering is over. I'm also kind of glad I never saw him near the end of his life. I want to remember the fun and healthy Uncle Mike, who got me my first ever Walkman, smoked a pipe after dinner and called tomato sauce, "gravy". I'll miss you!
Oh goodness. That was morose. It seems hard and almost shallow to go on to ask questions about lipstick and blush now, doesn't it? Well Uncle Mike lived life as he wanted, he did what made him happy. I would like to think that he wouldn't mind the transition from a eulogy to mascara, but he probably wouldn't care to discuss it...since it didn't involve college football, gambling or electronics. So I'll ask a few questions that he might be able to answer and some that you might be able to answer and we'll call it a day.
On To The Poll!
1. Lip Of The Day? - Chantecaille Lip Chic in China Rose. can someone explain why I don't have more of these? They are so soft and moisturizing. I think I need more.
2. Do you gamble? (Slots, Cards, Sports, Horse Racing, etc.) - I only gamble when I go to Las Vegas. So that's about once every 5 to 10 years. And when I do I usually play slots...but not for long as I get pretty pissed about losing money so quickly. I don't like betting on sports because it stresses me out.
3. If you won $100 playing poker what makeup item(s) would you purchase? - I think right now I would buy Le Metier de Beaute Corinthian eye shadow (duh it's taupe) and Lip Creme Lip Gloss in Fraise Creme
4. What is your favorite memory as a child spent with a relative or old family friend? - It has to be the trip to Broadway with my Uncle Mike. It has snowed so my new patent leather shoes with the fabric bows were probably not appropriate to wear but I was (and still am stubborn) so I insisted on wearing them, instead of "Galoshes" as my uncle referred to them. Just the word galoshes sounds unattractive. I remember crossing the busy streets, getting the playbill, marveling at the gold lame and sequined costumes and not getting a single joke because they were a bit more mature for my sense of humor. It was the first Broadway show I ever went to and it was awesome.
5. Do you have anything (beauty or other) coming in the mail? - As far as I know, NO! That needs to be rectified ASAP!

I'm sorry to hear about your uncle. He sounds like a great man. My condolences!
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky! I wish I had an Uncle Mike. I am so sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteOn to the poll:
1. Lip Of The Day? - C.O. Bigalow Mentha Lipshine -working from home today
2. Do you gamble? (Slots, Cards, Sports, Horse Racing, etc.) - I love horse racing @Del Mar, and my friend Jim taught me to play Blackjack in LV -it was a lot of fun.
3. If you won $100 playing poker what makeup item(s) would you purchase? - UD's Naked Palette, NARS e/s Daphne & Mangrove (too broke now)
4. What is your favorite memory as a child spent with a relative or old family friend? - My dad taking me to the emergency room. I know that's weird but true. He was like Superman, demanding doctors & nurses to hop to it. I knew I'd be alright.
5. Do you have anything (beauty or other) coming in the mail? -Yes (sort of). My little ewok Kirby has been ejected by his former groomer so the task is now mine and supplies were needed. So actually Kirby has stuff coming in the mail addressed to me.
. Lip Of The Day? - Thanks for the reminder. I was in such a hurry this morning (again) that i didn't even make sure I wiped all of the foundation off my lips before I came to work.Thank you! It will probably be an Ulta lipliner in Flesh (such a steal at $1 and ultra pigmented) with a new maybellene color sensational lip... in Luminous Lilac. As that is one of four lipsticks in my bag today, it was the first i pulled out :)
ReplyDelete2. Do you gamble? (Slots, Cards, Sports, Horse Racing, etc.) - I love slots. I think it is in my blood. My Papa Gary used to own race horses and he and my grandma went to Vegas alot when my mom was young, as their restaraunt was doing quite well and they had money to take weekend trips to Vegas every so often. Also my great grandpa apparently liked to gamble alot too. Mom likes to gamble too, and our yearly 4th of july family trip is to the Vegas of Oklahoma- Tulsa! (bahaha) We stay at the Cherokee Casino Resort AKA Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Resort. I love it. I haven't gotten up the balls to play cards for real money at the casino, though I love TExas HOld 'em :D
3. If you won $100 playing poker what makeup item(s) would you purchase? -I think I would probably buy my sister a Lightscapade MAC MSF, as my sister loved using mine and she was not a mac aficionado when it came out. And they are pretty expensive now.
4. What is your favorite memory as a child spent with a relative or old family friend? -Spending time at my grandma's farm when I was young - my papa gary passed away when I was 2 and that is where he kept his horses- I had one named Mule. It wasn't my horse, but I said that it was. Muley! I couldn't have been much older than 2, and I remember brushing the hair of the horse with my hand and seeing the dry pasture behind him. Out at the farm they had satellite TV also, back when they were HUGE space alien looking contraptions that look up an entire backyard.
We didn't get the Disney channel in town on Cable, but out at the farm we did- we got Disney East and Disney West. I remember feeling so important when I would watch The Mickey Mouse Club!!! And the song at the end of the MIckey MOuse club was vaguely eerie.. when they would sing about saying goodbye and it was really slow... It used to freak me out a little bit. And then it would come on at a later time because I was getting Disney West. That is when I first learned about Mountain, Eastern, Central, Pacific time zones. I could not have been more than 3 or 4 at this time! we used to go spend days out there just hanging out. My grandma had a popcorn popper where we put the kernals in and I listened to the noise and out came fresh popcorn. I loved that. She then melted butter (or margarine) and i would drown my popcorn in it. :D Such amazing fun memories. I love my grandma so much, she is such an awesome person. If I have half of the kind heart and generosity that my grandma has, I will be a winner in life.
5. Do you have anything (beauty or other) coming in the mail? - yes! I ordered my sister a Z Palette and some lip exfoliant and a Stila 3 shadow palette from beauty.com :D Man I am an awesome sister. And I got my son and my niece some things from The Childrens Place website they are having an awesome sale. I got 10 items, 4 pairs of shoes and 5 shirts, one pair of shorts, for under $30 bucks!!! Damn I am so good. Its almost like getting paid to shop. Sort of. not really. Okay, I'm lying to myself. I think I am delusional. Either way. Great poll, and please accept my condolences on the death of your uncle!
I'm sorry about your uncle. :(
ReplyDeleteAs for keeping Darthypie amused, if you're willing to let him play with your phone for a bit there's some really great free kids apps in the droid market. I have a paint one on my phone (cause I like to doodle :p) but my friends little niece loves it. There's some cute games as well.
1. Lip Of The Day? -
I'm thinking NARS lipgloss. Tryin' to keep it simple for work.
2. Do you gamble? (Slots, Cards, Sports, Horse Racing, etc.) -
I learned very, very fast that I should not gamble. Not in a bad way either. I went to Atlantic City with my other half for the day and somehow they let me into the casino. (I still have two years to go for that..) I went straight to some slot machine with unicorns on it and blew 20 bucks. It was gone so friggin' fast.. I just kept telling S.O. what I could have purchased with that cash. AC was like hell to me anyway..
3. If you won $100 playing poker what makeup item(s) would you purchase? -
UD Naked Palette. Annnddd... maybe an empty MAC palette. And then shop around for other stuff. :p
4. What is your favorite memory as a child spent with a relative or old family friend? -
Fishing with my dad. I really wish I could go back in time and tell my five year old self to cherish the moment while I still had it.
5. Do you have anything (beauty or other) coming in the mail? -
Nah. I'm going to return some stuff to Sephora I purchased a few months ago but never opened, although I heard they've gotten strict with their return policy? I'm gonna have to check that out anyway.
1. Spell Gloss in Pulse V1.0
ReplyDelete2. No. Not really interesting to me.
3. Probably some new Fyrinnae & Sugarpill.
4. Traveling from Indiana to Clearwater, FL with my grandma and then going to all the Disney parks.
5. I have MAC Dare to Wear lipglass in Gimme That! and eye shadow in Atlantic Blue coming to me.
I too, am very sorry to hear about our Uncle Mike. As a mother of two grown sons who we "dragged" across the USA several times due to moves for the military, we became quite good at keeping children of all ages entertained. (Of course this is before the time of DVD players in the car!) We would take a trip to Toys-R-US and get a few cars or action figures, coloring books and crayons, hand held games and read along books (ones with tapes). This kept them busy for hours - oh and don't forget lots of snacks. Sometimes big suckers worked wonders.
ReplyDeleteHave fun.
Crayons, play doh (yes, in the car), books, stuffed animals and snacks for Darthypie. Although if it was me, I'd mortgage the house to get another dvd player. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your uncle. Have a safe trip.
My condolences for uncle Mike.
ReplyDeleteHum how to keep little Sith happy for 6 hrs in a car! Mbe bring along his favorite toys and put some relaxing music? Bring some snacks for him, of course.
Sorry am trying.
1. Lip Of The Day? - NYX lipgloss, love it!
ReplyDelete2. Do you gamble? (Slots, Cards, Sports, Horse Racing, etc.) - just went to the casino my VERY first (legal) time last weekend and LOVED it! Yet I am too broke, and rather spend my money on makeup...so I only spent $20 haha!
3. If you won $100 playing poker what makeup item(s) would you purchase? - Contacts!! Do they count? LOL....and new nail polishes
4. What is your favorite memory as a child spent with a relative or old family friend? - each and every moment with my Nana, she passed away when I was 12. Named my daughter after her =)
5. Do you have anything (beauty or other) coming in the mail? - I have glass beads coming for my pandora bracelet AND more alligator clips for me to make my korker bows http://www.etsy.com/shop/KaysKorkers
And your uncle Mike sounds like an awesome man, sorry for your loss
ReplyDeleteAhh, my condolences. And best wishes on the drive!
ReplyDelete1. Lip Of The Day? - Chanel Egerie with a little bit of a barely orange-tinged Milani gloss - went with Chanel Irreelle In Love blush beautifully which I gave a second chance today. :D
2. Do you gamble? - Not really. I bet when I play poker, but we usually have $2 buy-ins to play for fun (but to keep people from playing like idiots) so I treat it more as I'm buying the entertainment lol. I've actually never been to a casino.
3. If you won $100 playing poker what makeup item(s) would you purchase? - tokitoki Pittura brush set, and a Chanel Rouge Allure and a glossimer. Not sure which ones yet.
4. What is your favorite memory as a child spent with a relative or old family friend? - Vague memories of hanging out with my grandpa in Taiwan. He's still the most awesome member of my entire extended family. ♥
5. Do you have anything (beauty or other) coming in the mail? - HEEHEEHEE. I was really bad this week - got blogsale items from PartyMartyW (MAC Merrily, Shell Pearl & Guerlain mini Meteroites in Pink Fresh) as well as 3 R&R orders from BeautyStory (I just kept wanting more things *headdesk*) with Bedroom and Foreplay blushes and Drama Queen lipgloss for me. They did say they'd combine shipping on two of my orders though, so that was really nice of them. =)
I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Your uncle sounds like he was a great guy.
ReplyDelete1. Lip Of The Day?
Bloom Lip Gloss in a discontinued peach color with subtle shimmer
2. Do you gamble?
No. I don't like risking money. Even though I invest in stocks, haha.
3. If you won $100 playing poker what makeup item(s) would you purchase?
Right now, I might buy
4. What is your favorite memory as a child spent with a relative or old family friend?
Hrm, nothing comes to mind, other than time spent with my cousins. Playing video games with my cousin was great fun.
5. Do you have anything (beauty or other) coming in the mail?
Nope. I'm trying not to buy stuff online right now, although there's a bunch of stuff I want to order from Amazon.
I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds like he was a great uncle.
ReplyDelete1. Chanel Rouge Allure in Rose Dentille.
2. I haven't been to Vegas in a while, but when I go, I do gamble. I like blackjack.
3.I would try some Burberry - probably eyeshadows and lipstick. Or I would get more Edward Bess, hard to decide.
4. I loved spending my summers in England as a child. I remember going on the bumper cars at Hailing Island with my aunt and uncle and picking raspberries with granddad.
5. I have NARS e/s in Rajastan and blush in Doceur coming to me.
