Thursday Poll

For the first time the other day I watched a game called Australian Rules Football.  This is the most insane sport I have ever seen. It’s basically a bunch of guys in really short shorts running all over a field that looks about the size of a soccer pitch, and slamming into one another at full force.  There also seems to be a watermelon sized oblong ball involved and some 75 refs in yellow shirts all over the field blowing whistles at random times and intervals.  The players seem to run constantly and also run into other players at the same time. It’s almost like watching a human representation of water molecules heating up and bumping into each other at random times.  The crowd seems to cheer the loudest when one of the players manages to abscond with the watermelon ball and kick it through a series of poles in one part of the field.  This prompts a ref in a yellow shirt to blow a whistle and points are awarded.  I have no idea what the rules are. I have no idea what the strategy is, but I do know the following. A) The players are all really buff because running for hours on end and chasing after a watermelon ball whilst 7 other guys want to kill you keeps you really fit. B) The short shorts are HOT! C) It’s freakin chaos and I LOVE IT!  Maybe one of you can explain this game to me, but I almost don’t want to know because watching it as an outsider is an awesome thing.  I really like puzzles and I think if I watch this game long enough I might be able to figure out the rules, or mission or something.  I love American Football and I think if I were not American I would also have no clue as to what the hell is going on during that game.  American Football Players take a lot of breaks and stand around a whole lot.  Action comes in spits and spurts and there are a lot of really big, fat guys wearing really tight pants. I can understand an outsider’s disdain of the American Football sport.  Of course once you learn the rules and the strategy behind the American Football game it is far more interesting, but I’ll tell you what, nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is as entertaining as watching Australian Rules Football regardless of your understanding of the game.  OK. I just had to share that with you.  I have no point today.
On To The Poll!

1.  Blush Of The Day?
– Chanel Joues Contraste in Poesie. A pretty pink that is slightly warm on me.  It looks way different in the pan than it does on the skin, but the application is sheer and natural looking.

2.  What was the last blush you purchased and how often have you used it?
– I picked up the Chanel Rose Temptation Joues Contraste Blush back in August and I have used it at least once a week since I purchased it…however, I think I will be using it more as the weather gets colder.

3.  What sport do you have no clue about the rules and quite honestly have no idea why people find it interesting? – I would have to say that sport would be Cricket.  I have NO idea how you play and I hear some matches can last hours if not days.  Ugh!  No thank you.  My max enjoyment for sports is about 2 hours. If it goes beyond that I tire and lose interest.

4.  What beauty items or non beauty items are you waiting for in the mail?
– None!  Oh it makes me so sad. I have nothing on the way to me.  Tell me what you have so I can live vicariously through you!

5.  Did you play any sports when you were younger?
– I was on Swim Team and Cross Country, but I pretty much sucked at both of them.  I really wanted to be on the pom pom squad, but my parents said it wouldn’t look good on my college applications.  Feh!  I don’t think college would have cared what I did in 8th grade.  I really wanted to wear those saddle shoes and have those pom poms.

20 comments:

  1. 1. Blush Of The Day? – Illamasqua Kiss, which is a deep plum, applied with a skunk brush obviously.

    2. What was the last blush you purchased and how often have you used it? Chanel JC in Pink Explosion and I have been wearing it quite a lot, especially if you consider that pink is the blush color I use the less.

    3. What sport do you have no clue about the rules and quite honestly have no idea why people find it interesting? Curling. You know, that sport played on ice where guys are rubbing the surface so their plastic thingy goes forward as far as possible?

    4. What beauty items or non beauty items are you waiting for in the mail? none, I must be sick (or broke, really). Planning on an Illamasqua order soon.

    5. Did you play any sports when you were younger? In the words of lady GaGa: Just Dance. Well, no, I played tennis as well. Belgians have a thing with tennis :-)

  2. 1. Blush Of The Day?
None - I'm having a mad week at work and makeup is certainly not the priority!

    2. What was the last blush you purchased and how often have you used it?
I *think* it was MAC Ripe Peach and it's still in the box!

    3. What sport do you have no clue about the rules and quite honestly have no idea why people find it interesting?
Baseball - the season is weird and it just seems like a complicated version of rounders.

    4. What beauty items or non beauty items are you waiting for in the mail?
    None...

    5. Did you play any sports when you were younger?
Several, but the one I took more seriously was Aikido - I even went to Japan to take part in a competition once. :)

  3. 1. Blush Of The Day? – Nothing yet, but I'll probably do Pink Explosion just because I like the name. And, uh, also the blush

    2. What was the last blush you purchased and how often have you used it? – Chanel Soho palette, and every single day since I got it. I'm in love.

    3. What sport do you have no clue about the rules and quite honestly have no idea why people find it interesting? Any sport where the uniform do not have sparkly things on them.

  4. Just to say that cricket in its highest form (i.e. Test cricket) takes up to 5 days and is one of the noblest pursuits known to man (or woman).
Fortunate are those of us who have been introduced to cricket in our infancy.

Items in the post? A couple of American Apparel polishes and Illamasqua Rampage. Hoo-bloomin'-rah!

  5. 1. Blush Of The Day? – MAC blushcreme posey. It's a fave! For cool pinks that are a bit cooler and more like a dusty old rose pink... mm, it's great!

    2. What was the last blush you purchased and how often have you used it? – Last purchase was blush ombre Ripe peach by MAC. I've used it nearly every day since I got it and it still looks untouched. Amazing!

    3. What sport do you have no clue about the rules and quite honestly have no idea why people find it interesting? – Um, that'd be many! Curling for one...

    4. What beauty items or non beauty items are you waiting for in the mail? – Nail polishes, base and top coats and a few coloured. Both from Illamasqua and from Transdesign. The Transdesign order has been 3 weeks so I'm getting worried about that one! The Illamasqua polishes I ordered yesterday :P Oh, and an illamasqua gloss as well... I was just gonna buy an eyeliner and a polish as a present for a friend, but...

    5. Did you play any sports when you were younger? – PE in school three times a week, biking 5km to and 5km from school every day, plus horseback riding four times a week plus dancing two or three times a week. Sometime's I'd go swimming once a week too... no wonder I never did my homework! :P
I loved doing all that, but as I grew older I couldn't keep it all up and I ended up with nothing. Two years ago I started running a little every day, but now I go to the gym instead. It's not nearly as rewarding as dancing or horseback riding!

  6. I'm glad you're feeling better!
I had never heard of australian football! I'm curious, it has the same effect on you that rugby has on me!

    2. What was the last blush you purchased and how often have you used it? – I haven't the foggiest idea!

    3. What sport do you have no clue about the rules and quite honestly have no idea why people find it interesting? – Golf!?!

    4. What beauty items or non beauty items are you waiting for in the mail? – Does Elle magazine count?

    5. Did you play any sports when you were younger? – Volleyball, and I wasn't half bad, I was part of the school team. But I quit because I played the piano, I used to hurt my wrists in the matches and the better I played volleyball the worst I played the piano. I loved the piano and was pretty good at it so I made my choice. I eventually quit the piano about 2 years later when I entered university though.

  8. Well before I post I do have to say, that this is the first time I've seen your blog and that post most certanly did catch my attention.

I am Australian, and I wish I could explain that game to you but I do greatly lack sporting knowledge. Although I did watch our Grand Final (the game I presume you watched too) mostly for the men and the shorts and can share what I know. The ball is watermelon shaped although much smaller. The field is huge, very close to soccer size I think. They tackle each other to fight over the ball, and they have to kick it between the two centre big posts to score a goal which is 6 points. If they get it through the outer poles it's just a point. There's also lots of free kicks for people who can "mark" the ball - catch it before anyone else touches it. That's all I know... Although I must say that I am a little proud that anyone else in the world watches our sport, I always thought no one else care. Anyhoo, enough of that and some of this...

    1. Blush Of The Day? – Nothing today, it's day off work and I havn't left the house so I've stayed make up free!

    2. What was the last blush you purchased and how often have you used it? – My go to blush - Chanel Jouse Contrasse in Enchanteresse. This is my go to colour, I wear it everyday for work, and weekends when I'm feeling like playing it safe. It's the perfect colour on my skintone, not too bronze and not too pink.

    3. What sport do you have no clue about the rules and quite honestly have no idea why people find it interesting? – As you said - American Football, it's so often on TV you'd think I could have figured something out. But all I see is just alot of big beefy men with even bigger beefier outfits, and super super tight pants running around clutching the ball to themselves for dear life and screaming weird noises at each other?

    4. What beauty items or non beauty items are you waiting for in the mail? – Waiting on some sold out polishes that couldn't be sent in my last order. A second bottle of China Glaze Ruby Pumps, and OPI's Wing It and Catch Me In Your Net, can't wait!

    5. Did you play any sports when you were younger? – I was terrible at sport. I briefly played netball in primary school when forced to in grades 5 & 6, loved it, although once high school hit I had better things to do...

    3. What sport do you have no clue about the rules and quite honestly have no idea why people find it interesting? – I'm sports challenged so all of them.

    4. What beauty items or non beauty items are you waiting for in the mail? – a Rimmel lipstick from ebay and that's it.

    5. Did you play any sports when you were younger? – I took soccer and hated it...I enjoy and still enjoy skiing...I'm a rollerskater but that doesn't seem very sporty to me.

That's it for makeup, but I also got two makeup books on amazon: making faces by kevin aucoin and Designing your face by Way Bandy. I have a few pieces I still haven't got from a hautelook sale- the jeans came I'm just waiting on a dress and a skirt. I'm so bad!

    5. Did you play any sports when you were younger? I did cross country in high school. I loved it so much, but then I broke my foot and never really recovered, so I started playing guitar. Now I'm in music school; go figure.
