Taupes You Can't Have #9, MAC Hard To Please
Joeybunny and I have been absolutely naughty with our monthly posts that feature a taupe eye shadow that is discontinued (DCed) and/or hard-to-find (HTF). I'm glad to hear that our sadistic tendencies are appreciated by you, our dear readers. As you are well aware, both of us have sizable collections of DCed and HTF taupe eye shadows. We knew they needed attention, and quite frankly it's kinda fun to drag them out to show everyone from time to time. In January, Joey started with MAC Innuendo, and in February I showed you Shu Uemura ME Silver 945. March was Cargo Yukon, April was Joey's review of Isadora Eye Shadow in Icy Khaki. May was my much loved Club Monaco Quartz. June was Paul and Joe Eye shadow in #23 Boulevard. In July, I brought you Tarte eyeshadow in The Real McCoy and in August Joey opined about Cargo Fiji.
So today. What do we have?
MAC Cosmetics Hard To Please eye shadow from the Beau collection
This shadow was never released as a single. It came from a MAC cosmetics pre made quad. The quad was called Beau and it was released in April 2005 through a Nordstrom Exclusive. Hard To Please is the taupe color in the quad. Hard To Please was also released in the Tempt Me Quad from August 2004 as well, but these have been the only times that MAC has released this color.
Hard To Please is really a beautiful delicate taupe. It's a very neutral taupe but tends to show warmer on darker skin tones. On me, it's a pretty light grey brown with frosty shimmer. The color reminds me of if Shu ME Silver 945 had a child with Laura Mercier Topaz. The frost formula of the MAC shadow makes it easy to work with and blend. This shadow is a bit more sheer and therefore not as metallic as some other frosts from MAC's newer collections. I think they might have changed the formula over the years.
As with most MAC shadows, if applied with a decent primer, the color will last a long time and wear very well without creasing. This is a color I reach for again and again. Its 3 sisters in the Beau quad are sadly neglected but when you consider one is purple one is pink and one is a gritty glittery white you can't blame me for only wanting to use the taupe!
I managed to swap for this quad from Makeupalley, but I have no idea if you can still find it today up for swap. I am sure you can't find a new/unused one on ebay so perhaps MAC will re-release it. HA! Yeah Right.

Oh it is stunning! I've enjoyed reading your Taupes you can't have posts too lol, it's just nice to see pretty eyeshadows, whether it's possible to buy them still or not.
ReplyDeleteIs the gritty eyeshadow in the quad Retrospeck? It is a bit gritty but it's one of my fave inner corner shades :P
