Taupes You Can't Have # 10 Jordana Taupe

Joeybunny and I have been going strong with our monthly posts that feature a taupe eye shadow that is discontinued (DCed) and/or hard-to-find (HTF). I'm glad to report that we have found a 10th taupe to tease you with.  I know we are evil and I know that these posts bring out the worst in us. But we consider it a public service to report and honor taupes that have gone the way of the Dodo. YOu know the history.  Joeybunny and I have a large collection of DCed and HTF taupe eye shadows that needed attention, and quite frankly,  it's fun to parade them about from time to time.  In January, Joey started with MAC Innuendo, and in February I showed you Shu Uemura ME Silver 945. March was Cargo Yukon,  April was Joey's review of Isadora Icy Khaki.  May was my much loved Club Monaco Quartz. June was Joeybunny's adored  Paul and Joe #23 Boulevard. In July, I brought you Tarte The Real McCoy and in August Joey opined about Cargo Fiji.  In September I showed you a taupe from a MAC palette that was released over 5 years ago called Hard To Please.  This month I bring you yet another beauty.

Jordana eyeshadow in Taupe

A gift from a dear friend and fellow taupe fiend, Sarah, this shadow is the crowning glory of the bargain basement taupes.  Found and purchased for a mere ONE US Dollar this taupe is called TAUPE. there is no mistaking the name or color.  Jordana is the brand and this discontinued TAUPE eyeshadow is a gem!

This shadow is in a utilitarian black plastic packaging with a utilitarian color name "Taupe" but there is nothing basic about the shadow or the color itself.

The shadow is a bit on the hard side but nothing that prohibits the ease of silky application or powder that melts into your skin.  This shadow exceeds expectations in quality for being a lower end brand.  I know that sounds snobby, but I really wasn't expecting much from a $1 shadow.  The finely milled powder leaves a velvety soft finish.  The only one dollar eyeshadow I have ever worn that didn't case powder fall out all over my face....this is a plus indeed!

The grey based taupe is far different when applied to the skin than it looks in the pan.  It warms up a lot on the skin and reveals the subtle hint of gold shimmer mixed in the with grey brown of the taupe color.  There is no purple in this color and it stays true on the eye. No color changing during wear and the long wear formula makes this shadow quite lovely.  The formula is that of a velvet finish with slight shimmer of gold and silver.  The pigmentation is slightly lighter than other shaodws I have owned, but nothing that inteferes with the pure beauty and pure taupe of this shadow.  When I think of the color taupe, the grey brown swatch above says it all. It is the pure definition of taupe.  I can't thank Sarah enough for her lovely gift of Jordana Taupe!

  1. I couldn't wear warm taupes, but taupe does generally kick brown's ass.

I approve of this "ner ner" series.

  7. I was just wondering the other day (when I was putting my 9 back-ups in my back-up drawer) if you were ever going to do a "Taupes You Can't Have" segment with any of the shadows I sent you -- this one in particular. How funny.

This pulls rather purple on me. It's almost like a purply-gray with brown duotone. Verybecca compared it to Cargo Yukon a while back (I think I gave her one too). This is one of my all-time shadows.

Anonymous #2: Jordana Over-the-taupe is different and not nearly as unique, perfect or wonderful. The new texture isn't nearly as good as the older shadows.
