Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain Le Brillant Jewel Lipstick Compact in Betsy #B62

It is said that sheer shiny lips are this season's signature look. So I find it amusing that people are falling all over each other to get the new Chanel and Dior sheer lipsticks when Guerlain has had the sheer shiny lip all along.  Guerlain Rouge G lipstick is not just ANY old lipstick. It's a work of art. It's a statement. It's heavy as heck!  The Rouge G de Guerlain Le Brillant Jewel Lipstick is no exception. Except for alluring opaque shades all named after women who have names starting with G, this Le Brillant Jewel like is much more sheer, much more glossy and named after women who have names that start with B. The formula is pretty much the same but there are subtle differences. The look of the compact is the same except the metal is a lighter color. The colors are more in the pink range versus the regular Rouge G which had red, Orange, Pink, Plum and Brown

Today I bring you Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain Le Brillant Jewel Lipstick Compact in Betsy #B62. A sweet, cool toned, plummy pink, Betsy is a My Lips But Better (MLBB) shade. Since my lips look absolutely corpse like and devoid of color when I don't wear any lip products, Betsy is the color my lips SHOULD be if I did not resemble Casper the Ghost.  This sheer plum color looks absolutely flawless on.  It does not streak as some sheer colors are wont to do and it does not dry my lips out as many lipsticks are notorious for.  The texture is almost like that of the original Rouge G lipsticks but it has a slightly lighter feel.  The wear time with this formula is less than the original G formula but just as good as the Dior and Chanel wear times.  In other words. Once you finish your morning cuppa you will need to reapply.

The finish is shine-o-rama!  This looks like a gloss once applied. It's sheer enough to let your natural lip color come though a bit and to look slightly different on different people.  Karla over at KarlaSugar.net has swatches of the Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain Le Brillant Jewel Lipstick collection so you can see what the colors look like, but remember that these are swatched very heavy and the end result on Karla's arm will not be the result on your lips. But regardless of the color you choose it will still look stunning!

Do you NEED this?  Well it is a hefty price tag, but YOU'RE WORTH IT!  Plus the packaging is so darn wonderful I can't imagine applying a Guerlain lipstick any other way.  In fact, I was just noting that I had forgotten my mirror and thankfully I had my Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain Le Brillant Jewel Lipstick Compact with me so I could apply my lipstick.  Now if ONLY Guerlain would sell refills for the Rouge G line I would be set!

  3. I'm so glad you did a review of this - I recently got this after a friend let me try it on and it's definitely my fave YLBB shiny l/s! Plus the packaging is lovely...worth the splurge since you can get so much wear! I wear it over MAC P&P lip to make it last. So moisturizing too! :D

  5. Lovely color on you! I, too, have no pigment in my lips, so I should probably give this one a try! I'm always looking for MLBB lippies, and they never really look as natural as I want them to...this one just might fit the bill!

  6. I bought this lipstick last night. I love this color! Definitely a MLBB color for me!

FYI, Bare Escentuals makes a Buxom lipgloss, also named "Betsy", that coordinates with this lipstick.

    "Betsy" is definitely a winner!
