The Lipstick League - week of 7.25.11

Question of the Week: - What's your favorite skincare line?

Answer: I think the idea of using all products from one line is antiquated. I don't have a favorite line. There are many lines that I use.  I adore AmorePacific for my nightly moisturizer and I love Dr. Brandt for my Daily Moisturizer. I love Estee Lauder for my night face serum and Clinique for my day serum. I LOVE Chanel Sublimage eye cream but it's so $$$ I live off samples when I can get them. It's really a mixed bag.

What about you?

Fresh Sugar Honey Tinted Lip Treatment

The day I spend $22.50 for a lip balm is the day I need my head examined.  Those infamous words were spoken by ME on several occasions while I lusted after an array of Fresh Cosmetics Brand Tinted Lip Treatments.  The day came when I received a gift card to for my Birthday.  I decided to get a bunch of stuff I normally wouldn't purchase with my own money.  The Fresh Sugar Honey Tinted Lip Treatment was one of those items. Now lest you think I'm cheap, I spend terrible sums of money for lipsticks, so the rationale to NOT purchase a tinted lip treatment for slightly less than the cost of a lipstick makes no sense.  Let's face it. I have lipsticks that are even more sheer and colorless than the Fresh Sugar Honey Tinted Lip Treatment.

Allow me to explain.

This is the Spring/Summer of the Sheer Lip.  From Chanel to Dior to YSL sheer lipsticks have been released in a bevy of colors.  But do those sheer lipstick have actual good for you ingredients to moisturize and treat and protect your lips.  Well....not always. And do those sheer lipsticks last long on the lips?  No. They really don't. Longevity in wear is the bane of sheer lipstick wearers across the world. Sheer and pretty for an hour or more but take a sip of tea, a nibble on a croissant and that sheer lipped pucker is now a dry arid wasteland.  Not fun. Not funny.

Swooping into the rescue it's none other than Fresh Sugar Honey Tinted Lip Treatment!  With a respectable 15 SPF and Sugar, a natural humectant, this lip treatment ensures long-lasting moisture.  Add in ingredients like meadowfoam, black currant seed oil, jojoba seed oil, and antioxidant rich grape seed oil, and your lips are conditioned as well.  But that's not all it has to offer!

A light, yet buildable tint of a soft nude (tan) is added to the luscious mixture of the Fresh Sugar Honey Tinted Lip Treatment. It's a nice neutral My Lips But Better (MLBB) nude that didn't turn too orange on me, the queen of lipsticks turning orange on me after application. No. This color stayed true...and lasted.

Unlike other sheer lipsticks, The Fresh Sugar Honey Tinted Lip Treatment lasted longer on my lips because it is thicker than regular lipsticks. It is a lip treatment, after all. It has a slightly waxy feel but not a smothering type feel. It glides on the lips easily and imparts a natural satin finish. I don't look like I just ate a bucket of fried chicken after applying this lip treatment (as much as I would like to eat a bucket of fried chicken) but my lips don't look a like a waxy matte mess either (I'm looking at you Original Formula Chapstick!)  There is a light lemon scent, which is nice, but a honey or sugar scent would be better (hint hint). It has a flavor that is ever so slightly a sweet/saccharine lemon but I don't usually lick my lips so I didn't really notice it.

The best part was. My lips never felt dry. They never felt dried out or rough and they actually look slightly plumper (but that result may be in my head) I just feel like my lips are in better condition than they were before I applied the Fresh Sugar Honey Tinted Lip Treatment.  That's a huge plus!

Do you NEED this?  Well. Maybe. If you looking for a sheer lipstick that also has SPF and conditions your lips, then YES! And don't forget that the Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatments come in a rose and plum color as well. This experience has changed my mind about the price, since I treat it like a lipstick I don't have as much of a problem paying for other colors (rose is calling my name) However, if you are looking solely for a lip treatment, this one is excellent and has some nice ingredients, but the $22.50 price tag may make you think twice.

Beeswax (Cera Alba), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Hydrogenated Olive Oil Decyl Esters, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Fragrance (Parfum), Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Passiflora Incarnata Seed Oil, Sucrose Tetrastearate Triacetate, Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant) Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Retinyl Palmitate, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Propyl Gallate, Ammonium Glycyrrhizate, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77492), Iron Oxides (Ci 77499), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491), Limonene, Red 7 Lake (Ci 15850), Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate, Bht, Benzyl Alcohol, Linalool, Vanillin, Citral.

Thursday Poll

A week or so ago I was alerted to a very suspicious auction on ebay.  It seems the seller was selling one of those god awful Sally Hansen nail polish pens and had used my pictures (with my watermark) and my actual text from the review to sell this craptacular item.  Normally I would be super pissed off that someone was STEALING my content.  It's not enough that I stay up to all hours of the night editing photos and writing prose so hilarious that it will make a Supreme Court Judge laugh (<-- Not a fact), it's the reality that I do this because I love it and when someone steals my stuff it makes all my hard work for naught.  But this case. This case was special. I didn't get pissed once I saw the auction.  Well. Actually it was the fact that I gave this nail polish pen a bad review that I was stunned at how incredibly stupid one would have to be to use it to actually SELL the damn thing.  My review was the antithesis of a commercial for Sally Hansen. Mind you I have used other SH product with much delight, but hey, even the best brands have a stinker or two in the mix.  Either this seller had no firm grasp on reading comprehension, which happens more often that you would believe, or they couldn't read English, or the bastardized form of English that I attempt to communicate in. (<---See! I just ended the sentence with a preposition! and used too many exclamation marks pointing it out to you!!)  So instead of reporting the auction to ebay, I decided to screw with the seller.  A friend pointed out that the person didn't actually cut and past my review and images, they actually linked directly to my review.  That meant that if I changed the image or replaced it, their auction would be altered as well. I could have been a real dick and replaced it with some pornographic troll like image. But I thought better of that and decided to alter one image by adding some text to it.  This was the auction HERE.  and here is my review of the Sally Hansen Nail Polish Pen.  See what I did?  See how I added the text?  I thought it was sufficient enough to send a message and clean enough (minus the "douchebag" comment) to put on my blog and their e-bay listing.  Next day I check the e-bay listing and the seller has closed the auction. MUWAHAHAHA.  The fool must have looked at the picture I altered an decided to take down the whole auction.  That pleased me to no end.  Now I COULD go back and restore the photograph in MY REVIEW, but I think I'll leave it there, just as a fond memory of the complete idiocy that is able to survive in the world.
On To The Poll!

1.  Blush Of The Day? - Chanel JC in Pink Explosion.  This is so much lighter than Rose Tourbillon and a perfect bright pink for my otherwise drab clothing.

2.  Have you ever purchased and/or sold stiff on e-bay (a.k.a. evilbay)? - Oh yes. Selling and buying. I did quite a lot of that many years ago.  I remember buying things on ebay as far back as 1999/2000. Now, within the last year or more, I just am not interested.  Some things I still look for, but there is so much fraud with fake cosmetics, shoes, purses etc. that I just as soon buy the real thing from somewhere else.  Plus the seller fees are so high it's not even worth it to sell anymore.

3.  Current Beauty Lemming? - Well after seeing The Beauty Look Book review and swatch of the Burberry Midnight Brown eyeshadow I knew I HAD TO HAVE IT!  I would also like a new perfume, but not sure what to get...yet.

4.  Have you ever had anything stolen from you? If so, what was it? - Oh boy. Let's see. I have had my Diamondback Mountain Bike stolen at college, I had a roommate that stole clothes and cash from me. I had someone steal my wallet once. I was living in London and put my jacket down for a second at a club and poof it was gone.  Thankfully I was a poor college student so they didn't get much but my tube pass 40 quid and my ID. Oh and I had someone steal the Redskins Football car magnet from my car..while at a Redskins game!

5.  Do you like nail polish pens, and have you found one that you really like? - I love the IDEA of the polish pens, but I have yet to find one that I like.  I wish I had empty pens that I could load up with a little polish from my current manicure to take care of any chips that might occur during the day, before I can get home to fix it.

Urban Decay Fall 2011 Releases

This Fall we see Urban Decay release a bevy of new products and some familiar products from it's arsenal of beauty. Now, I've already told you about the NEW 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner HERE. And yes, It's Awesometastic. Here are several other new products for Fall 2011

First nothing completes a look better than perfectly sculpted brows.  Urban Decay as two new products to help you achieve that finished look to your face. If your brows continually have sparse spots or have a mind of their own then the Urban Brow Precision Tip Brow Tint and Urban Brow Styling Brush and Setting Gel are made for you.

• Designed with function in mind, these sleek Brow Tints feature an ultra-fine brush tip for precision
brow shaping. Color flows through the pen into the fine tip brush creating light, feathery, natural looking strokes.
• Fill in sparse areas, define your arch, and color your brows perfect with one of our two universal
shades of Blonde or Brunette Precision Tip Brow Tints. The Blonde Precision Tip Brow Tint works
beautifully on blondes, red heads, and those with light brown hair. The Brunette Brow Tint works
wonders on those with medium to dark brown hair all the way to black.
• With a won’t budge, water-resistant formula, Precision Tip Brow Tints do not smudge during a sweaty workout, when accidentally rubbed, or as a result of inclement weather.
• If brows or sparse spots need more coverage, just layer strokes of Brow Tint to create a natural looking defined brow.

• Polish off your well-groomed brows with the Styling Brush and Setting Gel. The high-powered clear
gel provides all-day hold yet leaves brows feeling soft, never sticky, stiff or crunchy (no flaking either!).
• Inspired by the ‘hairspray on a toothbrush trick,’ Urban Brow Styling Brush and Setting Gel is equipped with an innovative, mini, straight-edged brush…it looks like a toothbrush!
• Much more effective for brow taming than a traditional spiral brush, our straight brush took two years to engineer and makes brows look amazing!
Urban Brow products are available at Sephora, or ULTA. Or, online at,,, and The Urban Brow Precision Tip Brow Tint and Urban Brow Styling Brush and Setting Gel both retail for $20 each.

What better way to keep those lashes in shape than an innovative and NON CRIMPING Lash Curler. It may look unlike any lash curler you have ever seen, but it's certain to be gentle to your sweet lashes. Eyelash curlers are necessary, but dreaded. Construed by many as a torture instrument, the eyelash curler inflicted unpredictable brutality in the form of skin pinching, lid pulling, and even eyelash removal at the root. And the curler of old wouldn’t even curl all your lashes at once, leaving the ends crimped rather than curled, an ironic twist given the sacrifice! It’s time for a revolution! Introducing The Revolution High Performance Lash Curler by Urban Decay, the cageless, pinch-free, crimp-free solution to creating beautifully curled lashes without living in fear.

• Featuring a sleek, cageless design, The Revolution High Performance Lash Curler curls in sections for more targeted, precise results. Curl your entire row of lashes or just your outer lashes for a touch of flair; you have options!
• The Revolution is an equal opportunity lash curler. Unlike most lash curlers with standardized cages, The Revolution provides a lasting, soft curl to those with any size and shape of eye and length of lash line.
• The Revolution comes with five extra-cushy replacement pads (which should be changed every three months) guaranteeing a soft and natural, non-crimped curl every time.
• A refined and architecturally pleasing beauty tool, The Revolution High Performance Lash Curler literally outshines all the rest with its glossy gunmetal finish and unique design.
• For maximum spring strength, Urban Decay recommends replacing The Revolution every 18 months.
• The Revolution High Performance Lash Curler is literally a revolutionary way to curl your lashes. For the best results, simply rest the curved section completely against your upper eyelid, making sure to squeeze gently for perfectly crimp-free, curled lashes. The Revolution is most effective when using your right hand to curl the lashes of your right eye and using your left hand to curl the lashes of your left eye.
THE REVOLUTION by Urban Decay retails for $20 and is available at Sephora or ULTA.  Or, online at, and

• Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color is softer than you could ever make a lipstick because the pencil supports the ultra-creamy formula. In a lipstick case, it would just go SQUISH!
• Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color brings you an ultra-moisturizing formula free of mineral oil and paraffin. Instead, our state-of-the-art formula is loaded with nourishing plant derivatives such as
Phytosterol, which promotes skin hydration, protects and even rejuvenates the delicate skin on your

Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion

I believe we all know what a liquid liner fanatic I am. Heck, in 99% of my eye of the day shots I am wearing a liquid liner of some sorts. Well my dears. I have finally found THE ONE. The Keanu Reeves Matrix THE ONE. I'm talking about The Liquid Liner that I will be buried with. That liner is not a Chanel cake liner, much to everyones surprise, I think. Cake liner is great and all, but since I'll be dead soon enough, I don't have any time to waste with mixing mediums. I need a liner that is ready to go. I NEED Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner.

I have very limited time in the morning. Messing with mixing mediums and getting the right consistency with a cake liner is better suited for an evening out when I can have some leisurely makeup time.  But at 5:15 AM I need something I can swipe on and go.  I also need something that will last a good 12 hours on my eyes and it has to be waterproof.  Why waterproof? Because I demand it and so it shall be...oh yeah, and I have allergies that make my eyes water.

I know you liquid liner N00bs are quaking in your heels at the thought of swiping on a liquid liner in haste, but I tell you what. I have been doing this for decades. Practice is key, but practice alone won't make you adept at using liquid liner. If you don't have the right tools you might as well give up.  The Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof  Liquid Eyeliner is that tool that will help you achieve that perfect winged liner look.

Let me explain.
The new Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner has a waterproof formula and it deposits pigmented color with a fine tipped brush that it’s almost impossible to mess up. The slim pen features an easy to control brush tip made for N00bs and for the more experienced liquid liner connoisseur! One can draw micro thin lines to thick lines of color and don't forget the eponymous winged cat eye!  You see? It's easy peasy!

What do I like about this liner
a) It has an amazing brush that makes it easy to apply and the brush handle is the perfect length
2) It is waterproof
iii) It dries quickly so no smudging or lid transfer

What I don't like about this liner.
*tumbleweed drifts across this post*

There isn't anything I don't like about this liner.

Do you need this?  DUH!  Does a man need a TV remote? Of course you need this. Best of all, the Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof  Liquid Eyeliner comes in a bevy of bold pigmented colors.  You know me. I prefer the black liner look so I picked up Perversion ( a carbon black...oh and what a perfect rich neutral toned black this is. It neither leans blue or red. it is the ideal black!)
Look at what awesome colors you can get!

Bobby Dazzle - sparkly, bright pearl
Revolver - sparkly, dark grey

Demolition - deep, matte brown

Sabbath - deep, matte navy blue

El Dorado - sparkly, canary gold

Siren - sparkly, mermaid tail blue/green

Perversion - carbon black

Smog - sparkly, golden medium brown

Radium - bright, sparkly blue

Woodstock - sparkly hot pink

Retrograde - glittery, deep purple

Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner retails for $18 USD and is available at,, ULTA  and
