Review by Joeybunny - Dr. Jart Water Fuse and Premium Beauty Balms

I feel like I’m becoming the queen of BB creams. A few weeks ago, I brought you all an intensive post on the Missha Perfect Cover BB Creams. Today, I have a review of the new Dr. Jart BB creams, Water Fuse Beauty Balm and Premium Beauty Balm.
Dr. Jart is a Korean skincare and makeup line, and Sephora has started to carry two of the Dr. Jart BB creams. This is exciting, since most of the time, trying to obtain a BB creams means having to order online or begging someone overseas for a CP.
I was excited to try the Water Fuse Beauty Balm and Premium Beauty Balm after having such a positive experience with the Missha products. I’ve been using the Dr. Jart BB creams for about three weeks now, alternating between the two. I think the best way to state my opinions on both would be to just list what I thought, so here we go!
(Oh, and as an aside - in case you did not know - a BB cream is meant to be your moisturizer, skin treatment, foundation, concealer all in one. Even primer.)
Dr. Jart Water Fuse Beauty Balm SPF25/PA++ retails for $32USD for 1.7 Fl. Oz.

  • Recommended for all skin types (although I honestly cannot imagine someone with oily skin using this at all - the Dr. Jart Premium Beauty Balm would be a better choice, because this one is too moisturizing/‘wet” for oily skin I think).
  • Offers a “natural-looking coverage” (and is definitely more ‘skin’-like than the Dr. Jart Premium Beauty Balm, which once applied looks pretty foundation-y).
  • Made with 50% water, it has something called “advanced water bead technology” which is supposed to add to and maintain the skin’s moisture level for a dewy, healthy look. When you apply it, little beads of water actually appear on the skin (seriously, this happens)! The skin absorbs these droplets and skin is instantly cooled and refreshed. It’s a neat trick, and I have to say that my skin feels nice and soft during the day.
  • Contains silicones but no mineral oil (unlike the Missha BB creams).
  • What it has, in terms of the good stuff: “Neutralizing pigments”, which brighten and conceal uneven skin tone and blemishes (and it does a great job of masking up the fuckery that is my chin at the moment); Octinoxate, Octisalate, and Titanium Dioxide for sunscreen; Hyaluronic acid and sea water extract, to increase the skin’s moisture content (and my skin hasn’t been as flaky as it normally is); Aloe and Portulaca Oleracea (aka Purslane or Little Hogweed), to soothe the skin, calm the skin, and help decrease redness in the skin (well, the redness in my skin has definitely calmed some, and my chin is looking a bit better).
I really loved the color (decently close to my skin tone) and feel of the Dr. Jart Water Fuse Beauty Balm, much more so than the Dr. Jart Premium Beauty Balm which I’ll discuss next. However, this BB cream is so moisturizing that I can’t wear it at work because the high temperature and high humidity at my job melts it right off my face, even when I set it with powder However, it’s fine for when I’m out running errands or somewhere where there’s AC available. I will love this once the fall arrives.

(The Water Fuse is on the left, and the Premium is on the right. Compare how pink the Premium is to the Water Fuse, and how thick it is. As you can see by the slightly blended bottom area, the Water Fuse is indeed a bit watery and sinks right into the skin).
Now, onto the Dr. Jart Premium Beauty Balm SPF45/PA+++, which retails for $39USD for 1.4 Fl. Oz.

  • Recommended for normal to combo skin types. I’d go so far as to say that someone oily can use this as well.
  • Contains silicones but no mineral oil (unlike the Missha BB creams).
  • What it has, in terms of the good stuff: Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide for sunscreen (and I like that this is a higher SPF than the Water Fuse Beauty Balm); “Bio-peptide complex” for anti-aging benefits (promotes the skin’s natural creation of collagen); Arbutin, which brightens skin and evens skin tone (like I said, my skin is looking more even lately and my disaster chin is starting to improve); Adenosine, which is known to improve elasticity and firm skin (I’m 24, I can’t comment on this!); “Neutralizing pigments”, which brighten and conceal uneven skin tone.
This BB cream has a heavier feel and heavier coverage than the Dr. Jart Water Fuse Beauty Balm; furthermore it has a more matte finish (which I preferred for work, because it wore much better on my face). The color is also a little lighter than the Water Fuse and thus required more blending on my face. I thought it’d be too light or me but once thoroughly blended into my skin tone, I guess it oxidized or warmed up because it became a pretty good match. However, I still prefer the feel of the Water Fuse Beauty Balm.
So, can I recommend these? Well, if you were interested in purchasing one you need to weigh the pros and cons of each. The Premium Beauty Balm has a higher SPF, more coverage, and a thicker feel. The Water Fuse Beauty Balm has a lower SPF, less coverage, but is more moisturizing and more skin-like. Also, these BB creams are pricier than the Missha BB creams but have the benefit of being easier to purchase. I like them both quite a bit and would definitely consider purchasing them in the future, although if I have one complaint it would be that neither cream is available in a range of colors.
