Chanel Ombre Essentielle Eyeshadow in Magic Night

Back in June I brought you an eyeshadow from Chanel that wasn't released in the US until late July.  That was Fauve. It was from the Sophisticated Eye Collection.  Well today I bring you a second stunner from the collection called Magic Night.

Magic Night is a deep red based plum with color changing abilities like a chameleon.  It can look deep purple and smokey when placed against a lighter shade like Fauve and it can look plummy and warm when used alone on the lid.  This versatile shadow from Chanel is one of my new favorites.

This shadow is not taupe.  I understand that. But for some reason I hold it in the same high regard as I do my other Chanel taupe shadows.  I'm not sure why.  Maybe because it pairs so well with taupe that I feel it almost a 2nd cousin to taupe.  Perhaps it is the deep plum that ranges from brown to red as a base that I might consider it a sister in law to the Chanel Taupes I have.  Either way. She's on the Christmas list and you will have to get her more than bath salts for this year's holiday gift.

The shadow itself is smooth and soft and not powdery. When used with a primer this shadow lasted over 10 hours and looked as picture perfect as when I first applied it. I experienced no fall out from application, no creasing or fading. The color stayed true all day and didn't oxidize. While this shadow is on the expensive side, $28.50, it is worth every penny!  Believe it or not this is only my 4th Chanel Ombre Essentielle eyeshadow.  I must correct this egregious oversight and start amassing a fortune of these shadows as soon as possible.

Do you NEED this?  Well honestly.....YES!  It is so pretty and so versatile that I think depending on what shadow you pair it with as a crease color you can get a lot of different looks from this beauty.  Sure it's on the pricey side, but it's Chanel and it's so worth it.

Coco Chanel's birthday was August 19th.  She passed away in January 1971 (before I was born) but I like to think that wearing her cosmetics, fragrance, and oh some day, clothing I pay homage to a woman that had more style and class in her little finger than most of us do in our whole body.  One of my favorite quotes from her is:
"I don't understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little - if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that's the day she has a date with destiny. And it's best to be as pretty as possible for destiny."
Chanel Ombre Essentielle Eyeshadow on Fauve as a base with Chanel Ombre Essentielle Eyeshadow in Magic Night in the crease. Kat Von D Autograph Eyeliner in Turbo Lover, Josie Maran GOGO Instant Natural Volume Argan Mascara

Chanel Ombre Essentielle Eyeshadow in Magic Night as a base and under lower lash line, Armani Beauty Eyes To Kill Intense Eyeshadow in #8 Champagne to highlight, Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion on upper lid and Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero on waterline, Josie Maran GOGO Instant Natural Volume Argan Mascara

  1. SKDJFHKSDHFSDKJF. I need to swear off your blog. Too many lemmings. It goes SO WELL WITH FAUVRE AND I WEAR FAUVRE ALL THE TIME IT IS JUST SO EASY TO JUSTIFY (this is what's happening in my head right now!). I'm still lemming the Autumn brownish taupeish quad. Balls!

  2. Gah! Why did I look at this! I had Magic Night and was disappointed with it. I wanted more pigmentation and found it went on a little dull but in your swatch and on your eyes it looks perfect! Now I'm regretting swapping it. Wonder if I had a dud or if I just gave up to soon.

  3. Oh no! You killed me dead with the pictures! LOVE it as a whole lid color. I die...not from Zombies but from the beauty of this color on your lid. Resistance is futile...she shall be mine!

  6. I need to get this out and take another look at it. If you like it this much then it needs to come out to play again.

  7. What a gorgeous color and so stunning on you. I love deep plums, so I might be adding this to my Chanel single stash. I have only four, as well, so don't feel bad!

  9. dailypolish: Um Yeah. Sorry. But this had to be done. I don't think I could live with myself if I let you wear fauve all by itself, not when Magic Night was around to compliment it.

PerilouslyPale: I think they must have reformulated the shadow because you are not the first person to say that the one they got years ago was hard and lacking pigmentation. Definitely try out the new one!

Polarbelle: You will be assimilated! See I can make Star Trek references on my Star Wars Theme Blog!

Mandy: Looking at your picture, this color would look BEAUTIFUL on you!!!

Joey: Aww Thanks. I think your skill w/ shadows far exceeds mine, so your compliment is very dear to me. You need Fauve. Twilight is really pretty too. I can't believe you have not worn magic Night yet...well I kinda can. ::coughHoardercough::

MarciaF (Beauty Info Zone): It';s always good to get a reminder to take out old shadows and use them again. I'm glad I could inspire you to do so!

Zuzu's Petals: Ahh I don't feel so strange then, if you only have 4 singles too. If you love deep plums you'll need this for sure!

AtelierBeauty(dot)com: I must admit I don't know what Elboui is. Can you enlighten me!
