Red Lips Week Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in 38 La Fascinante Review Pictures Swatches

It is the last day of Red Lips Week on the Pink Sith Blog..  This week I am focusing on the "high end" red lip products.  (Anything over $18)  My goal was to highlight sumptuous formulas, bold reds, and statement making lip products that almost any woman could wear.  Red Lips week doesn't have to end today.  Simply  check out the Red Lips tag and you will see over 45 entries related to red lips on this blog alone! That should keep you occupied for some time.

Today I end the series with a coup de grace of red lipsticks.

Of course!

Chanel recently came out with a new lipstick formula called Rouge Allure Matte Velvet. Now anyone over the age of 35 is cringing at the thought of matte lipstick formulas.  They were drying, crumbly, they flaked off terribly, they accentuated every line and imperfection on your lips...they were...in a word...Atrocious.

Chanel has fixed the old style matte formula so it is now the antithesis of atrocious. Chanel Matte Velvet formula is, in a word, Delightful!  Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in #38 La Fascinante is even more delightful because of the beautiful red color!

This non drying matte formula glides on the lips with an effortless sophistication one expects from a Chanel lipstick.  The slip to this lipstick is nice. It's not as slick as the regular Rouge Allure but it still feels world better than any matte lipstick I have ever worn.

The color?

Oh the color of Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in #38 La Fascinante is a vibrant, Holiday Party, take me out for Valentine's Day, I'm a Screen Siren from the 1940's, red! This is a blue based red but wears fairly neutral depending on your skin tone. But will pull slightly pink are very warm skin tones.

The packaging is the typical Rouge Allure "Click Click" packaging, the lipstick is in a spring loaded case. Click one to eject the metal lipstick holder from the black Chanel case and click again to secure it.  (I love Rouge Allure Packaging! Click Click!  Even Darthypie knows how to and enjoys opening those lipsticks!)

Do you NEED this?  If you are looking for a drop dead red, then YES! Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in #38 La Fascinante is the quintessential mattered lip!  Not sure this red is right for you? Chanel also has a deeper berry red in the same formula called #40, La Sensuelle. You can see pictures and read a review on the Lipstick Musings Blog HERE.  Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet retails for $32 USD and is LIMITED EDITION!  This means if you want to try this awesome formula you better hustle!  Who knows how long Chanel is going to keep this gem around.  This is NOT Limited Edition as I once thought. Only #31 is LE not this color or the other colors available. Thanks to a loverly reader for alerting me to this! I purchased my Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet at Neiman Marcus.  The wonderful Kathy Shoreman was my sales assistant. I mention her without compensation or special consideration from Neiman Marcus.  I mention her because she is a great sales associate and she likes Star Wars and the whole Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre!  That makes her epically awesome!  You can call Kathy Shoreman at Neiman Marcus in Tysons Galleria at 703-761-1600 X-3282.

a) I look too yellow here. The actual color is a tad deeper
b) the lipstick looks shiny because of the flash. this really is a matte lipstick

  2. I got greedy and bought BOTH La Fascinante and La Sensuelle... There's something about Chanel reds that just lights the fire in my loins. So lovely.

  4. I'm curious where you heard that these are limited edition? On the Chanel website all colors except #31 La Furtive are listed as permanent. I'm just wondering because I've been holding off on buying. Thanks, love your site!

  5. Revlon In The Red might be a dupe, but now I think they've discontinued it. They always do that with the best shades...
