Beauty Army February Beauty Box

I recently told you about the disastrous launch of the Beauty Army Beauty Box for January.  I'm happy to say that the Beauty Army February Box was MUCH easier to order! The server didn't go down. I was sent an e-mail that my time to pick samples was ready. My order was shipped in a timely fashion and I didn't grow old waiting by the mail box for it to arrive.  A very nice improvement!

Eyeshadow from January box.

The products in Last month's box were so good I actually ordered two of them!  I picked up a full size Shea Terra Organics Black Soap and a full Size JOICO K-Pak RevitaLuxe Hair Conditioner. I have also used the MyFace Cosmetics Blingtone Eyeshadow in Sp"ice"y a few times too!  All in All a decent sample box that introduced me to some new brands that I am enjoying quite a lot.

OK. So what is in THIS month's box?

Well as you may know, with Beauty Army you get to pick your 6 samples from a list of 9 products.  Changing your answers to the profile survey will slightly change up the items that are offered to you for selection.  I noticed that if I selected a younger age group I was offered sunscreen while the older, and much more decrepit age group to which I actually belong, was offered Neck and Boob lifting cream.  *sigh*  Since I have more sunscreen than people on a space trip to the sun might use, I opted for the neck cream.  I mean I am getting older and well, maybe I could benefit from it...right?

So this is how my Beauty Army Box arrived.

Everything was packaged perfectly and all the items came in a sweet cardboard box, which I have been told is great for lipstick storage!

The Items I received were:

Pssssst! Dry Shampoo
Indie Lee The Shampoo
Weleda Iris Hydrating Facial Lotion
MyFace Cosmetics Blingtone Eyeshadow in Bell Bottom Blues
StriVectin SD Stretch Mark and Wrinkle Cream
and
Mama Mio Boob Tube Bust and Neck Firmer

OK.  So this month's box was not a home run but it wasn't a total fail either.

WIN) I love Dry Shampoo. My hair goes flat easily and dry shampoo helps keep the volume in my hair. Pssssst! is a drugstore brand  am familiar with and wile that's nice and all it would have been cool to get a different brand or a higher end brand to see what all the fuss is about with the higher end brands.  Either way, I'm happy with the dry shampoo and it's a nice small size to carry in my purse.

FAIL) The Indie Lee Shampoo smells pretty awful. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it.  I think this may go to an unsuspecting future ex friend because after I give them this smelly shampoo I doubt they will be friends with me much longer.  Another smelly item from this box is that Mama Mio Boob Tube cream.  It smells TERRIBLE.  I put a little on the back of my hand, to test it out and it was overpowering. I'm not sure if it is the Fenugreek in the ingredients but whatever it is, it's offensive.  I can't imagine putting that on my neck & chest and have to smell that for hour and hours.  Nope. This one goes in the trash. I don't hate my friends THAT much.

WIN) MyFace Cosmetics Blingtone Eyeshadow in Bell Bottom Blues is an decent color. I can totally see myself wearing this as a smoky and sparkly navy eye.  I might use it to layer over another navy shadow I have, in order to make it sparkle.

FAIL) The Weleda Iris Hydrating Facial Lotion and Strivectin Cream will go into the sample bag for giveaways. I have too many face creams right now and I'm really NOT focused on skin care.  Which I made VERY CLEAR in my Beauty Army profile, but I guess they only had skin care samples this month.

So only 2 things I liked from the 6 items in this month's box. I guess that's better than nothing.  A full sized eyeshadow in a decent color is nothing to sneeze at and the scents of the other products weren't something that Beauty Army could have known I wouldn't like, so no fault there.  I do plan to do one more box with them.  If the majority of samples are skin care again I think I might unsubscribe from this service.  Skin Care samples are just not my thing right now. It might work for you tho. So far, Beauty Army has delivered some decent samples for brands that I never would have tried if not for them.

What about you?  Did you sign up for Beauty Army?  What did you get in your box this month?

  1. Oh my. I live for Pssst. My gorgeous, bouncy hair falls flat by noon, leaving me looking like I haven't showered in days. Psssst perks it right up. I only buy the small size because it is cheaper and fits in my bag. But why oh why is Beauty Army stocking their sample selection with something that is easily picked up at the local drugstore? Lame.

    1. Yeah. I agree. It would have been nice to get a more high end brand of Dry Shampoo.

  2. All I can say is I am SO glad this is a US based box - I was worried I was going to have to subscribe to *another* beauty box for a minute there! I LOVE the idea that you can pick from a selection of samples - I hate the way the ones I am subscribed to aren't tailored and seem to always send out the wrong type of products for me.

    1. I hate that too. But to be honest. you don't get a lot of choice and the boxes aren't THAT tailored. :-/

  3. I've been reading around about these boxes (and other companies'), trying to figure out if I want one... I have developed this perspective that these boxes mostly come packed with skin care and hair care products, not make up. Am I just getting the wrong impression? I just don't think loads of skin care every month is all that interesting, especially since I pretty much stick to a couple of products that have worked for me for a long time... now if it were actually cosmetics to try, THAT would be cool and worth it. Your thoughts?

    1. I agree. I would be much happier if there were more makeup samples in the boxes, rather than skincare. It would make the price more "worth it". Even hair care is OK, but it gets tiresome after a while. If you notice the main thing I liked was the eyeshadow. If only more brands provided small sample sizes of their makeup. I bet they would have more sales.

  4. I wish I'd signed up for this one. My glam bag suuuuuuucked. There was no eyeshadow like most people got, just mainly stupid faux-coupons. I would rather get at least one product worth the cost of the box than a bunch of paper. Btw, I didn't start using neck cream until it was obvious I needed it and then it's too late. There's no way to catch up once you're behind on the neck. Learn from my mistake, young Sith! Use it while you still have just one neck!

  5. <> OMG!! That's just hysterical. :) I have not subscribed to the Beauty Army and yours was the first post I've read about February's box. I really appreciate your honest opinions--and your sense of humor! x

  6. I was going to sign up, but I may hold off if my choices are smelly shampoo and boob creams that make me smell like an IHOP. I had to lie on my profile and say I was 16 to even see products that didn't make me feel geriatric.

  9. I at least use the box for storage! I think what you get is what they happen to have the day you go to pick out from their choices. My box is slightly different but not any better. They get one more chance with me and then I'll decide whether it stays or goes.

  10. Which goes to show how different everyone is in likes/dislikes ;)

I LOVED the smell of the boob tube! Fenugreek actually smells like maple syrup (the fake stuff). Ditto for the shampoo.

Can't wait to try the dry hairspray--love the eyeshadow. Got a serum, and La Rocca exfoliator.

So far I've been happy--I mean I pick the samples. The boxes are cute storage as well.

  11. Your comments make me crack with laugher! :)

Can I mention that I used to take fenugreek pills to boost up my milk supply when I was breastfeeding my son? ;) Hehhehe

    1. YAY! Glad I made you laugh. and yes. I too Fenugreek when I was breast feeding too. I don't think it made a damn bit of difference. LOL

  12. Your samples are HUGE! I got my first Beauty Army box yesterday. I must have changed my profile fifteen times and even when I made my 53 year old self either 55+ or whatever the youngest one was, I got almost the same products. I don't believe the profile does much of any good at all in selecting and for my second month I will try as I've seen suggested by many others; keep changing everything until I can find six good sized products I really want.
