I received my April Birchbox last week. Probably Thursday, but honestly the only thing I remember is that I get this box after most people get it, but before some. So as far as delivery times go, it's Just OK. Last month I wrote about my first Birchbox offering since I re-subscribed. I originally cancelled my Birchbox subscription last September after receiving lame samples like paper coasters and one string friendship bracelets. Anyway. My last Birchbox offering for March was pretty decent. I ended up writing reviewson the Birchbox website, for several of the products I received. By writing reviews I was given Birchbox points. Those points added up and I was able to get $10 off an order I placed through Birchbox for the Detox Tea I was given a sample of last month. I still enjoy the tea every day and I must say that when you order though the Birchbox website for an item that was sent in that month's boxes, the shipping is free...and fast. I received my order very quickly. I digress. Let's talk about this month's box.
The April Birch Box seems focused on the "Earth Day" or "Green" and Natural products. That's fine. I'm not a big natural product cheerleader, but I'm cool with some of the products I have tried.
Underneath the Juice Beauty Card (which I found later was empty because they put the sample in with the other small samples in this month's box) I find....
There is nothing glamorous or fun about doing laundry. If I wanted detergent I wouldn't want it from my BEAUTY SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE. Now. Let me rant for a bit here. I view getting these boxes as a mini present and an opportunity to indulge and relax with beauty items each month. There is nothing FUN about getting laundry detergent. I don't care if it's "green" because it reduces packaging, leaves a smaller carbon foot print, is formulated for high energy washers, or whatever. I don't want detergent. Period. And the women that do get this and this "Oh Neat!" obviously do not have a home where laundry is a never ending cycle. I do laundry two times A DAY. between the Darthypie and Mr. Sith and Floydiepie and myself, We do a lot of laundry. We might do a bit more than normal because we use dish towels instead of paper towels for most clean ups and we use cloth napkins instead of paper, but jeesh. we are ALWAYS doing laundry. So NO. I do not find getting a laundry sample in my BEAUTY subscription to be good.
OK. Sorry for the tirade.
The other items
Humm. Juice Beauty Oil Free Moisturizer. The juice Beauty card was kind of a harbinger of bad news. Juice Beauty happens to be one of my least favorite skin care brands. It does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for me. It never delivers on the promises it makes on the labels and I never have good results with any of the products. I know a lot of people really adore this brand, unfortunately I am not one of them. Into the sample giveaway giveaway bin it goes. I hope it will find a home where someone will appreciate it more than I do.
Amika Nourishing Hair Mask. I have been interested in trying the brand. I have heard good things about it. The sample will give me one test of the hair mask. If I choose to purchase it I will be spending $40 for 16.9 oz. I'll try it and see if it's worth it. Hope it smells nice at least.
I don't have a picture of it, but I received a sample of Taylor Swift's fragrance called Wonderstruck. So not interested. Tossed. Moving on....
Last, and I guess not least, I received a small or mini bottle of Zoya Nail Polish in Lotus. Part of the new TRUE Spring collection. It's a dusty blueish purple with slight shimmer. Very pretty. So YAY!
All in all, I am NOT thrilled with the April Birchbox. Had I received the Birchbox that Brooke at Blushing Noir Blog received: J.R. Watkins Hand and Cuticle Salve & willa Gentle Cleansing Lavender Facial Towelettes, instead of the crummy Juice Beauty and expensive conditioner.
I would be singing a different tune entirely. In fact. If I had received her box of goodies I would be recommending all of you to sign up right away, even before I received my 3rd box.
But I didn't...
So I'm not.
Sorry Birchbox. You kind hit a foul ball with this box. Last month was a triple but I'm still waiting for the home run.
(I don't even like baseball! See what you have done to me with your sub standard boxes Birchbox? You are making me do a sports analogy on my BEAUTY blog. ::shudders::)
As a FYI, Birchbox does offer a link to its subscribers to allow them to get "credit" if they refer people to sign up for the service. Since I have yet to determine if this service is worth signing up for, I have NOT included that link. All links to Birchbox in this post will NOT give me credit if you subscribe. I post this just a word of advice if you read other reviews and they don't indicate if their link is tied to that "referral credit" or not. As always, I will tell you if there is an affiliate link in any post I have. If there is a referral link I will also inform you and I will also provide an alternate link that will NOT give me referral credit in that same post.
