Thursday Poll

The other day a woman was finally arrested after she had faked having cancer in order to get a lavish wedding donated to her.  Thousands of dollars were donated to give this woman a dress, reception, rings, flowers, a HONEYMOON in Aruba...and it was all for a lie.  She was eventually discovered and is now in jail...but hey, she got her dream wedding, right?  On Pintrest, there must be a million boards full of ideas for weddings, dresses, rings, bouquets, etc.  It seems like may women focus on their dream wedding, whether they are engaged or not.  A wedding is something many little girls dream about from the time they can walk and play dress up.  Many women already have the theme of the wedding, the colors, the flowers, the hair, the reception, the music all picked out. All they need is the groom to make it happen.  I'm not talking about this subject to make fun of women who do this. I have done this myself.  Well before I met Mr. Sith, I had decided what I wanted for my wedding.  I knew I wanted it in the fall, I knew I wanted the bridesmaids to have burgundy dresses, I knew the type of flowers I wanted; Calla Lilies, White for me and burgundy & yellow for the bridesmaids.  But something, may women overlook, and what that terrible woman that faked cancer overlooked, was that the wedding is just one day.  The marriage is much longer...maybe even a lifetime.  I had my dream wedding all planned out, except for a few minor things that were beyond my control.  What were the minor things?  Oh well, The wedding was in North Carolina instead of where Mr. Sith and I lived in DC, I had been laid off from my job 2 months earlier, oh and it was 4 days after 9/11 when the entire world fell apart.  Oh yeah.  Mr. Sith and I were married 4 days after the Twin Towers fell, after part of the Pentagon was demolished and after thousands of people died.  (My comment above about a minor thing not going right for my wedding is sarcasm) Yes. We went through with the wedding, even though the entire nation was still in shock form this terrible event. We joked that we had the wedding because if we didn't the Terrorists would win. I think we needed to have that wedding when we did.  We needed to bring family and friends together to show that there is hope, that there is still love even though these terrorists wanted us to be scared.  Sure, I had to do without a few things because of the terrorist attack on the US.  My flowers didn't come because they were being flown in and most if not all flights were cancelled.  1/2 of the guests, mostly my relatives, couldn't make the trip because they either lived in New York and couldn't get out of town or they lived outside of the country and the borders were closed to foreign travelers.  Many people that were supposed to fly into the wedding, had to drive in, if they chose to do so.  There wasn't a lot of dancing at the reception, people were too shell shocked from the attacks to dance. I was so stressed and depressed over what had happened I barely ate and lost so much weight my dress hung loosely on me...but you know what?  Despite the terrible and tragic events, despite not having my flowers, my guests, my dress fitted properly, it was a wonderful wedding.  My dream was to marry Mr. Sith, and I accomplished that.  The wedding was lovely, the cake was delicious and Mr. Sith and I were married.  That's the end goal, right? To be married?  Sometimes I think some of these women that go so crazy over their weddings don't have that goal in mind.  They can only see the wedding, and not the marriage.  So for those of you planning a wedding, have fun planning, but don't forget that AFTER the wedding, AFTER the honeymoon, there is a marriage to work on.  Marriage is a lot more difficult to make a dream come true than planning any wedding...but so rewarding.
P.S. I still love looking at bridal magazines and wedding boards on Pintrest.
On To The Poll!

1.  Blush Of The Day? - Chanel Joues Contraste in Malice!  Love this blush so much. I have worn it three times this week.

2.  What's your least expensive yet most effective beauty tip/product? - Baking Soda. I love using it with a cleanser as a facial scrub, it's great for teeth whitening, I use it in the bath to make the water feel silky and it's great on mosquito bites mixed w/ a little rubbing alcohol.

3. Do you have a dream wedding planned? Did you have a dream wedding? Do you like weddings? Do you even think about weddings? - Yes. I still have a dream wedding planned. It's still with Mr. Sith and it's in VEGAS baby! I wanted to elope but Mr. Sith insisted on a wedding. WHAT? I know, right!

4.  What is one makeup trend you never understood. - The Pale glossy frosty lips with the dark lip liner.  I call this porn star lips.  I never understood it and never really liked it.

5.  The mega millions jackpot has been won, but we all know you fantasized about winning it.  What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?  - Perfume!  Of course Makeup too.  But only because that would be the instant gratification purchase. I would buy a huge house with a really awesome back yard & a pool.

  1. BotD?- The matte side of the Pantone blush Duo. Such a pretty little palette, but I wish it was more travel friendly.

Product? Aspirin! I love using it as a mask to dry up my skin! Works fantastically on me!

Yes and No. I have some parts of my wedding planned out, but I've never been one of those girls who obsessed over it. I want a small wedding with one bridesmaid and Hibiscus flowers. And yellow cake. I love yellow cake.

Blue Eyeshadow. There are very few people who can wear it without looking ridiculous, yet they still insist on wearing it.

Ummmm... I think I would buy a Soda. I haven't been able to afford a soda in like two years. Hooray for college budgets.

  2. I am officially hooked on your thursday posts. I love them!

BotD: don't kill me - I have only been wearing Chanel 4 facettes bronzer everyday for the week. Giving my cheeks a rest.

Least expensive - if I'm desperate, I will use baby shampoo to take off my mascara.

Wedding - honestly, i don't like thinking about my wedding. I already know that it's going to be the parents wedding (I'm asian) - i.e what they want, who they invite, etc. Unfortunately, it's going to be one of those 500+ guests, with a stiff program that puppets me and my future husband on the stage, another typical 8 course banquet food that taste like rubber. However, i am dreaming of my perfect honeymoon!

I don't quite understand crazy vibrant rainbow eye looks. Not a fan. Also don't understand why some even bother to contour their boobs to make it look bigger. It better not rain.

If I win the jackpot, I'm going to buy a chic apartment in Paris. Then I will spend a bomb at Galleries La Fayette. And buy my future husband his dream ferarri. :-)

  3. 1. Blush Of The Day? -- Mark (by Avon) Instant Blush Tint, in Nude. It's the most natural-looking color I've ever worn, blends like a dream, and really lasts. Plus, It's the first nude color I've been able to wear on my cheeks that didn't turn orange.

    2. What's your least expensive yet most effective beauty tip/product? -- Honey. I use it in my coffee every morning to sweeten more calmly than sugar, wash my face with it, mix it into oatmeal for a great, natural scrub, and use it to soothe angry skin issues.

    3. Do you have a dream wedding planned? Did you have a dream wedding? Do you like weddings? Do you even think about weddings? --- Goddess, no. I detest weddings and brides and all thin gs wedding with a passion, especially the showers and receptions. I never, never dreamed of my wedding as a little girl, and still don't. And I find the selfish, self-centered attitude of modern brides to be a strong sign of why 1 in 2 marriages in this country end badly. The only thing I've ever liked about a wedding is doing the bride's makeup-- and only if she wasn't being a jerk!

    4. What is one makeup trend you never understood? -- those horrible little brows some women wear, where they pluck a round shape underneath, leaving it straighter on top. it looks like they're trying to shape their brows into a tabletop; it's unnatural AND unattractive.

    5. The mega millions jackpot has been won, but we all know you fantasized about winning it. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery? -- I don't believe in winning the lottery, I took a Principles of Reasoning course as a Philosophy major, and it taught me this: most people have a better shot at being struck by lightning twice in the same place than they do of winning any significant amount in a lottery. Giving you the argument for poll's sake, though, I'd buy my mother a new car, and hire her a driver. Then pay off my student loans.

  4. 1) Clinique A-Glow. I was in a bit of a rush this morning.
    2) Coconut oil, my hair and my skin love coconut oil, my cuticles like it too.
    3) Honestly, everytime I think about my wedding I start freaking out. The only thing I've figured out is that I care about the ring, the dress, the honeymoon and that I get married in the fall. Thinking about anything leads to a downward sprial that ends in me planning my elopement. My poor parents.
    4) I've never understood the pale frosty lips with brown liner either. It looks gross and obvious to me.
    5) The first thing I'd do is pay off my student loans. And dance and cheer that they aren't hanging over my head anymore. Then find myself a lawyer and financial planner.

  5. 1. Blush Of The Day? - Illamasqua Lover. I need my war paint on today and this is my HG blush;

    2. What's your least expensive yet most effective beauty tip/product? - my brow gel by Essence, less than 2€ :)

    3. Do you have a dream wedding planned? Did you have a dream wedding? Do you like weddings? Do you even think about weddings? - First of all, I'm single. Secondly, I'm soon to turn 35, so I'm over the pre-pubescent princess wedding dreams (not there's anything wrong with them, but I just grew up and lost them). What I want is to be married, there aren't many things that I'd like to have on my wedding, probably just a dress and nice pictures that I can show my kids later. The rest is more of an annoyance than anything in my mind.
I think you did the right thing by getting married despite the circumstances. It really makes life win over death (and I really mean it.)

    4. What is one makeup trend you never understood. - the whole pornstar look, actually!!

    5. The mega millions jackpot has been won, but we all know you fantasized about winning it. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery? - I'd buy my freedom from the workforce, it's all I need right now.

  6. I'm so not that girl! Got married in Las Vegas at Caesars palace and barely even picked my flowers (got a no-stress wedding package, but it's not eloping) :P Still had 60 friends/family show up, actually got married on 9/11/10 because that was a doable Saturday... still have beautiful pictures and a wedding video, still had a delicious lunch reception at a Mandalay Bay restaurant owned by celebrity chefs, and all-in-all it cost like $10k, dress included <3

  7. Longtime lurker, first(?) time commenter here -

So glad you wrote this post about weddings. I'm having mine in about 6 weeks and I am fuh-reaking out a bit. I never really dreamed about a big wedding as a kid; I just assumed you just wear a dress, hold a bouquet of flowers, kiss and BAM, that's it. Now I know there's a lot more involved than that... though luckily I'm not having a HUGE wedding (~100 people). Probably makes me sound horrible, but I still have yet to hire a hairstylist, baker, or florist, and I just got my officiant earlier this week. I hired a DJ, but he hasn't really been in touch, so I figure I'll have to go harass him later. Urgh.

Your post just reminded me that everything will be OK and I can relax. Worst case scenario with the hairstylist, I'll just shave my head and buy a pre-styled wig and at least the pictures will come out nicely.

  8. 1. I don't wear blush

    2. Instead of pricey, chemical laden serums, I spritz rosewater & glycerin on my damp, clean face followed by a drop or two of Shea Moisture Baby Oil with Argan Oil rubbed into my skin. The oil is basically jojoba oil infused with argan oil, and a ton of other essential oils. The initial investment is less than $20, and it will last a really long time. My pores have diminished noticibly in the month or so I've been using this.

    3. I've never been a big fan of expensive, OTT weddings. I feel the money can be used as a substantial down payment on a house, future children's college fund, retirement, etc, especially in todays economy. My ideal wedding would be in a backyard, a simple rose bouquet, a simple dress, and a potluck style buffet.

4, "Racing stripe" blush, especially in bright colors, *under* the cheekbone. And yes, people still do this. Oh, and purple lipstick.

    5. I would invest a good portion of the money in a business, probably some sort of non-profit organization to aid parents of developmentally disabled children navigate the public school system.

  9. 1. Blush Of The Day? - The pink Majolica Majorca one in the little tin.

    2. What's your least expensive yet most effective beauty tip/product? - Silica powder to set foundation. But really, sleep is the most effective and least expensive beauty product.

    3. Do you have a dream wedding planned? - No, I don't know if I ever really want to get married and if I do find someone to spend the rest of my life with I'm not sure that we would need a wedding or a marriage license to validate our partnership. And if he insisted on getting married I think I'd want to elope too, because the idea of bringing my entire family together just makes me sick to my stomach (very dysfunctional - I haven't seen or talked to my dad in 4 years, I can't imagine having him walk me down any aisle). That being said, I do want a big floofy dress and a pretty ring, but I think we can have an awesome party with as many "traditional" components of a wedding that we want and none of the ones we don't. We'll see.

I do however, still love looking at wedding photos and such on Pinterest. It makes me smile, to see all the beauty and love and happiness in them. :) (Yes, I am a huge sap.)

    4. What is one makeup trend you never understood. - Forget glossy, just frosty lips. Why???? Or chunky glitter lips for that matter too.

    5. The mega millions jackpot has been won, but we all know you fantasized about winning it. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery? - I'd pay off my student loans first, and then I would buy myself a vacation to someplace warm.

  10. 1. Blush Of The Day? - MAC Pink Cult

    2. What's your least expensive yet most effective beauty tip/product? - toothpaste? It cleans your teeth and leaves your mouth minty fresh!

    3. Do you have a dream wedding planned? Did you have a dream wedding? Do you like weddings? Do you even think about weddings? - I did have a dream wedding. Sort of. The wedding contained components exactly how my husband and I wanted. However the planning was very stressful with people I didn't expect becoming upset. For example, my mother had her feelings hurt when we didn't accept her idea of a Three Strand Cord ceremony. And then I had a major panic incident when my social anxiety disorder kicked in. My husband and I conclude that we never want to experience an event like our wedding ever again. (shutters). The guests had a great time though.

What is one makeup trend you never understood: Uber tanned skin and frosty pink lipstick. The person is usually blonde.

What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery? Pay off my student loans and donate enough to the Meow Foundation (a no kill animal shelter) so they can build a bigger adoption center. So technically I would be buying an animal shelter.

  11. 1. Blush Of The Day? - Nothing. Again. Ugh.

    2. What's your least expensive yet most effective beauty tip/product? - Aspirin on pimples. It really works.

    3. Do you have a dream wedding planned? Did you have a dream wedding? Do you like weddings? Do you even think about weddings? - When I was little, the only thing I ever planned about my wedding was that I didn't want one. I got married last year in a very, very simple ceremony where my only guests were my witnesses. They were also my mom and stepfather. I wanted to just register the wedding and get it over with, but there was no time for that (and my husband lives outside the country). We may or may not hold a vow renewal ceremony when I can finally move in with him (mainly for his relatives that couldn't make it to our wedding, also so we have American marriage certificate), but I'm not too excited about it to be honest. Upgrading the rings would be more than enough for me, lol.

    4. What is one makeup trend you never understood. - I just read about it today -- The leftover make-up look, as in, the look you'd get the morning after sleeping in your make-up. No. just no.

    5. The mega millions jackpot has been won, but we all know you fantasized about winning it. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery? - I'd pay an immigration lawyer to do the paperwork so I can live with my husband already! Also, plane tickets and money to ship my belongings.

  13. 1. Blush Of The Day? - NYX Mocha

    2. What's your least expensive yet most effective beauty tip/product? Sugar! Added to face wash, it works great as a gentle scrub. Added to some bath gel, it works as a body scrub.

    3. Do you have a dream wedding planned? Did you have a dream wedding? Do you like weddings? Do you even think about weddings? - I never really gave much thought to weddings, not even as a kid. When I did get married, we got married on Halloween and it was a themed wedding. My husband wore a powder blue costume tux that we zombie-fied. I did a Sugar skull-esque look with a black dress. All the guests wore costumes. The wedding itself was in my house so I could decorate everything. For food we had pizza and Halloween cupcakes (the latter of which I made). Instead of a reception, everyone stayed over and we watched the premier of "The Walking Dead." Perfect!

    4. What is one makeup trend you never understood. - Pale frosty lips, or very nude+matte+fleshtone lips. It's just not flattering, in my opinion.

    5. The mega millions jackpot has been won, but we all know you fantasized about winning it. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery? - I'd move to Portland and buy a Pod House and live like a Hobbit.

  14. 1. Blush Of The Day? - Benefit Coralista.

    2. What's your least expensive yet most effective beauty tip/product? - Condtioner rather than shaving foam.

    3. Do you have a dream wedding planned? Did you have a dream wedding? Do you like weddings? Do you even think about weddings? - I'm currently planning a wedding and apparently waaaaaay too chilled. Booked the first venue we saw, have accomodation, guestlist and ceremony sketched out with 18 months to go.
I can't wait to be married to my partner, but have never really been bothered about the actual wedding. I'm clearly warming to it, but have no Bridezilla tendencies (yet).
Except for the hog roast. It's just not party unless you eat a whole animal.

    4. What is one makeup trend you never understood. - About ten years ago, there was a trend (here in the UK) for frosted lips, a thick white line of eyeliner on the top lid and a slicked down ponytail and two little strands of loose hair at the front. Worn with sportswear. No idea why.

    5. The mega millions jackpot has been won, but we all know you fantasized about winning it. What would be the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery? - A house for my mum. Partly so I had somewhere to come back to after travelling the world.

  15. Technically it's Friday. However, since I'm in the Bahamas, you'll have to excuse this transgression.

    1) BOTD - NARS Laguna Bronzer/ MAC Sunbasque in combination to mask my sunburn and enhance my bronziness.

    2) Use moisturizer to melt off your makeup if you're sunburned/ windburned. Also, aloe vera plants make great plants to have - just break a piece off and mash until goo-ey and slather over your face.

    3) I'm still fairly convinced I'm never getting married. BUT. I do have a wedding board on pinterest called "far, far away" and a lot of what I pin tends to involve shabby-chic barn/ gothic southern/ retro/ or involves balloons someway. Which is nothing close to what I actually thought my wedding would be.

    4) Super, super tan skin which is kept disgustingly undermoisturized and the whole super brunette trend, where everyone went like three shades too dark for their brunette and then didn't maintain it so it looked like a nasty horses mane.

5)Pay off my debt, my moms debt and send my sister to Bama. Then I would buy my mom a house, me a house and a vacation houseboat. THEN, I would vacation, and invest quite a bit for the future. And then become a recluse novelist. :D
