Foundation Fridays Holika Holika Peach Girl BB Cream - Review, Pictures, Swatches

image from ebay.com

Today I bring you my absolute favorite BB cream of all BB creams I have ever used....and trust me, I have used a lot.  This BB cream is from a company in Korea called Holika Holika.  Holika Holika is a South Korean cosmetic brand which started in 2010. The brand has over 60 product lines ranging from skin care to make up. Holika Holika means 'Beauty-HOLIC'. That suits me perfectly. I'm a Beauty-holic!  In Korea there are over 30 stores that sell Holika Holika and their products are also available in Thailand and Singapore. Of course I purchased this BB cream off of eBay, but you can also find it on Amazon.com and other on line retailers.

OK.  So aside from the absolutely adorable packaging, what makes this BB cream so special?  I'll tell you in a second.  First the packaging.

How cute. It looks like something from Etude House or other similar brands.  Th packaging does look a bit juvenile, but I'm OK with that. No one sees the packaging when they see my face and, hellloooo, I still act like I'm 12 years old most of the time, so it's cool.

What's with the clunky cap you ask?  Well that cap happens to hold a little pan of creme blush in the most cute shade of peach you have ever seen*. (*most cute shade of peach you have ever seen applies to people that have never seen peach colored cream blush)

OK. So it's not earth shattering, but it certainly is handy to have a mirrored little compact built into the cap.  One you have your BB cream applied, you can pat on this highly pigmented blush and go!  You can also use it on your lips but it does look a little chalky so I tend to just use it for my cheeks.

OK, So the blush is quite a nice extra.  But what about the BB Cream?  OK. You have been patient.  I'll tell you.

It
Is
AWESOME!

No seriously.  For my pale azz face this cream is the PERFECT color match for me.  It's not too yellow, It's not too pink, It's not too grey. It's a real beige color!  Whoo!  In fact the color I purchased #01 is called Light Beige.  They do offer a slightly darker color called #02 Natural Beige, which I think NC20-25 would suit well. For us NC10-15 gals, well, this one will be your best bet.

The BB cream has a mild scent, not very detectable to my nose.  The cream is not too runny and not too thick.  It definitely is a cream and not like a foundation.  I skip moisturizer, primer and sunscreen when I wear the Holika Holika Peach Girl BB cream because it's in the cream!  I skip a few extra steps in the morning.  That's nice!

The BB cream spreads well on the face. It covers very well and I would rate it at a medium heavy to heavy coverage.  I find I need less concealer when I wear this cream. Another plus!  The cream makes short work of covering all the red in my cheeks and any blemishes I might have.  The finish is slightly dewy, and not matte, but not shiny or sticky.  I always set my BB creams with powder, but those with drier skin wouldn't need it at all.

Despite my ridiculously oily skin I get decent wear time out of this BB cream.  Sure I get shiny by 11AM but when I blot, the BB cream remains mostly on my face and does not transfer as much to the blotting paper.  I can powder again, and I don't look blotchy or "undone".

This BB cream did not break me out, and I have fairly acne prone skin.  That is a win!  The BB cream, after a long period of use seemed to slightly improve the tone and texture of my skin, but i cannot attribute the improvement of my skin to the BB cream alone, since I am constantly testing new skin care items.

Do you NEED this?  YES!  This is my favorite BB cream of all time. It's a great color match. It has great coverage. It does not break me out. It only costs $13.58!  I love that price a lot!  I purchased my Holika Holika BB Cream from eBay through the rubyruby76 shop. However, there are other sellers on eBay and on Amazon.

  1. I need another foundation/BB Cream/tinted moisturizer like I need a hole in the head. Which of course means that I COMPLETELY NEED a hole in my head! Everyone needs holes in their heads. Just ask Lisbeth Salander. It's so on trend right now.

    Ahem.

I shall be acquiring this shortly.

    That is all.

  7. I really want to try this BB cream! I think Natural Beige may suit me but I'm afraid of buying these things online and having them not match my skin at all. :(

  12. Im really tempted to give this a try! How does it compare to the skin79?

    1. The Skin 79 Lovely Girl BB cream's major difference with the Holika Holika is that the Holika Holika has SPF and the Lovely Girl does not. I also found the Holika Holika to have more coverage than the skin 79 Lovely Girl and it also wore longer than the Skin 79 Lovely girl too. They are pretty close on color tho...but I would get the Holika Holika over Skin 79 any day.

  16. YAY! My favorite BB cream is from Holika Holika too! I love the lightest shade, as it has almost greige undertones that work perfectly on me. And it's so cheap! I buy it from Bello-Girl on Ebay for $8.99 and free shipping. The Peach looks awesome :)

  17. Could you compare this to Meishoku BB cream you reviewed? I can't decide which to buy...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sure. The Meishoku BB cream is a matte finish versus the Holika Holika satin finish. The Meishoku is more yellow and the Holika Holika is bore of a greyish beige. The Meishoku broke me out and the Holika Holika didn't but my skin is very sensitive so your results may vary. The Meishoku was a tad harder to blend because ti set faster than the Holika Holika. Those are the major differences.

    2. Thanks! I decided to buy Holika Holika, from the same seller. Can't wait to get it :)

  22. 2 questions and tons of praise..
The date on the box (MFG) is that the manufactured on date or the expiration date? Because the date on mine was March 2012.

Do you know what the sunscreen ingredients are?

I have been using this for awhile now and I have got to say it is, for real, the best foundation/BB cream I have ever used. I am in love with the coverage, yet super light feel. It is the first BB cream that I can skip everything with. The blush is divine also...Is it silly to say that I am in complete shock to find a product that has an exact color match? I lost faith that it was even possible...

So yeah. You nailed it finding this and THANK YOU SO MUCH for the review. This is only my fourth HG product ever and I am SUPER happy to finally end my 15 year hunt for the perfect face product!

  23. Okay, I totally snagged this because of you, and it's even better than I thought it would be!
I think we have VERY similar toning and tastes, so I will be keeping an eye out on your reviews! It's hard being super pale and finding things that work. Thanks for everything!

  24. Lovely review. I am glad you've mentioned the Mac shade comparison here since it just gives me an idea which shade I should get for this product. I think I definitely would go for the #2 there. I've been eyeing this product for a while now since it's a 2 in 1! I love 2 in 1 products, they're great! Don't you think?
Just followed you as well :-)

  25. Lovely review. I am glad you've also made a Mac shade comparison here as this helps me pick which shade for this product I should get. I think I am a #2 since I am an NC20. I've been eyeing this product for a while now since I love the fact that it's 2 in 1! I think 2 in 1 products are great, don't you?
    Just followed you as well:-)

  28. Is this still your favorite? I've been using HolikaHolika Petit Essential, but it does nothing to control my oily skin and it fades rather quickly. I also had Jane Iredale's BB, but it was such a disappointment! I have very oily skin and huge pores, and also some redness (not full blown rosacea, but very close).
    Thanks!

    1. This is still my favorite but it has been discontinued. I have yet to find a replacement from Holika Holika. There are a few other BB creams from the USA that are OK. (Revlon Photo Ready BB Cream and Kiehl's BB Cream) but they do not mattify or provide as much coverage as the Holika Holika Peach Girl. It's sad. If I do find a suitable replacement I'll be sure to write about it!
