NARS Vent Glace Eyeshadow Duo - Review, Pictures, Swatches

Once upon a time there was a princess that lived high on a hill in the icy alpine tundra. Wrapped in white furs and wool she sat by a window overlooking the valley below from her mountain top lair.  Her hair shone in the sunlight a pale gold. Strands of hair glistened in the light like icicles hanging from the eaves above her room.  Her hands were fine and small with delicate fingers. They were nimble as the princess was keen on tatting.  Her lace creations were so fine and so unique they resembled the snowflakes that fell from the wintry sky above.  The icy winds that whipped the castle would screech and howl to most ears, but to the princess they sang a melody so beautiful and precious it made her smile and cry tears of joy.  Those tears would freeze as they slid down her porcelain cheeks, for the castle was cold and empty.  The princess was banished to the castle in the alpine tundra high in the mountains where only snow and wind made its home.

What was this unspeakable crime that the princess had committed to have her shipped off to such a cold and lonely place?

She was a lone Washington Redskins Football fan in a country of wretched Dallas Cowboy fans.  Her only crime was loving the greatest team that football has ever seen, The Washington Redskins.  She knew that in two years time that Robert Griffin III (RG3) would be able to get the team to the Superbowl and all those Tony Romo fans would be silenced forever.  It wouldn't be the first season that RG3 would play that would get them to the playoffs, nor the second, but by the third season the Washington Redskins would be in the Playoffs and Superbowl bound.  She just knew it!

She already had her makeup ready for the trip to the Superbowl (as any good princess should).  The focal point being the NARS Vent Glace Eyeshadow Duo from the Fall 2012 collection.  This icy eyeshadow concoction would symbolize the prison she was held captive in for so long by those buffoonish Cowboy fans.

The NARS Vent Glace Eyeshadow duo was a beautiful combination of an icy grey and a greyed out frosty green.  Imagine the NARS Tiaga eyeshadow duo if it had been left out in the cold to develop a layer of icy frost over it.  The gold changes to a, pewter and the green is muted and iced over as well.  The colors reminded the princess of the Deer Lichen or Reindeer Moss that thrived in the icy tundra that surrounded her castle prison.

The powders of the NARS Vent Glace duo were neither hard nor overly soft.  They applied like a dream but they were slightly less pigmented than her usual NARS eyeshadow duos.  She wasn't sure if that was the formula or the colors.  She knew that those with darker skin tones than her wan complexion, would find the two frosty shades blending to the point of not being able to detect one from another.  But on her pale skin the green really stood out and almost matched the green of her own eyes.

As with all NARS shadows the princess noted that the wear time on the Vent Glace eyeshadow duo was long and there was no creasing or fading when worn with a primer.  While this wasn't a duo that she would wear every day, it certainly was one that would hold a special place in her heart.  A place right next to her undying love of The Washington Redskins Football Team!

The End.

The NARS Vent Glace Eyeshadow duo retails for $34 USD and can be found on narscosmetics.com and Neiman Marcus and soon at other retailers like Nordstrom, Sephora, and Bloomingdales

  1. Elvira, you are great! I was loving the fairtyale opening, ready to discover her heinous crime and laughed out loud when it was down to football. Brilliant!
I can't get a handle on this duo as it looks so different in photos- even between bloggers who I trust to have accurate photos (like you). I'll have to try it for myself to get a real answer I think- I'm particularly concerned that the green may be muddy which I know won't work for me. Thanks for the review !

    1. I looked at some other reviews and you are so right about the way it looks different in every picture. I'm not sure if that is the lighting or photo editing. I guess, if you can, try to see it in person before purchasing. P.S. I don't think the green is muddy.

    1. You just need to STFU. I know you are a Raven's Fan or GOD FORBID and Eagles Fan. RGIII just signed today therefore your argument is invalid! :-)

  9. I hadn't wanted this duo...until now. That darker shade is stunning! But I'm afraid it won't really pop on my eyes/darker skin like it does on yours :/ *sigh* so lovely on you!

    1. Yeah. I think on darker skin this will not show up as well. Have you tried the Taiga duo yet?

    1. It's saying "Kate....Kate...buy me and I'll look fabulous on you..."
But just so you know, makeup, especially eyeshadow and highlighters are notorious pathological liars. Buyer beware.

  12. Your posts that are stories are some of my very favorites! Loved the twist that was her "unspeakable crime"! I need to see this one in person. There is so much variance in swatches that I've seen around the blogosphere. Thanks for a great read! Looking forward to the next installment of Pink Sith's Magical Makeup Fairy Tales!

  13. I can't get enough of your writing style, Elvira. I came for the taupes, but will stay for your glorious prose! The duo is a stunner. It'd be way more fun to drop moolah on it than textbooks, lol! ;)

  14. What eyeliner did you pair this with in the last photo? It looks beautiful and subtle.

    1. Don't be mad. I paired it with a discontinued liner from Estee Lauder. :-/ Sorry. I have also worn this with Urban Decay Liquid Liner in Smog and it looks great too!
