This collector’s palette draws inspiration from the art of calligraphy and Asian beauty rituals. With two dramatic shades for the lips combined with three iridescent eyeshadows, the ingeniously designed palette provides all make-up essentials in one place. A matte black powder liner is also included and can be used wet or dry to create an unforgettable gaze.
Liu Perfumed Shimmer Powder Face, Body & Hair - $88.00
The star of this collection reveals a light-as-air loose powder that enhances the face, body and hair with an iridescent golden veil. A mere press of the bulb releases the powder, leaving Liu’s mesmerizing aromas in its wake: a composition of aldehydes, sensual roses, vanilla, iris and woody notes.
Many will recognize Liu’s original bottle with its elegant black glass case and golden letters reminiscent of a Chinese tea caddy. A black woven bulb has been added transforming this legendary fragrance into a desirable and feminine makeup accessory.
Météorites Perles du Dragon is named for this Year of the Dragon, and pays tribute to this mythical animal, a symbol of the emperor of China, whose primary source of power lay in a pearl, synonymous with happiness, wisdom and abundance. The harmony of six shades of pearls in an intense, iridescent monochrome palette is perfectly tailored to the holiday season. Like nighttime jewels, it cloaks the face in incredible radiance: pale pink and beige even out the complexion, white and gold illuminate, while plum and rosewood brighten areas of shadow and erase fatigue as the night goes on. Its famous metal case, also embossed in black, is stamped with a golden rosette on its lid and bears the Guerlain signature.
Météorites Wulong - $170.00
The name of this travel pressed powder means “Black Dragon” and it combines six shades to ensure a pure, flawless and luminous complexion regardless of skin tone. Matte shades are paired with two white and gold illuminating shades that add subtle radiance. The delicate black metal powder compact is sculpted with a gold mother-of-pearl rosette and tucked inside a black suedette pouch bordered with red stitching. Oh my! That sounds absolutely decadent! I want it!
This precious quartet showcases a subtle monochrome palette for vibrant and refined eye make-up. The interplay of textures and colors allows you to effortlessly take your look from morning to night. Two matte and two iridescent textures are combined to perfection. Refined down to the slightest detail, the elegant golden case travels in a black suedette pouch with red topstitching.
Shine Automatique Lipstick - $35.00
Two holiday shades named for the protagonists in Puccini’s great opera: Altoum, the emperor of China and Lou-Ling, the Peking princess who is Turandot’s ancestor.
700 Altoum: a gold adorned with beautiful tone-on-tone sparkle that is worn on bare lips to illuminate them with a sophisticated nude veil, as a top coat over another shade to add a precious glow, or dabbed on the center of the mouth for daring plump lips.
760 Lou-Ling: an enchanting plum set off with a golden sparkle for a dramatic effect.
Nail Polish - $23.00
Display ultimate sophistication on your fingertips and toes with two limited-edition nail polishes in stunning jewel tones.
03 Altoum: a gleaming gold for a precious glow.
04 Lou-Ling: a stunning plum for a spellbinding look.
Guerlain’s Holiday Color collection is available beginning October 2012 at select locations of Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Sephora, Bloomingdales and Bergdorf Goodman.
If money were no object I would own the Météorites Wulong and the Liu Eye & Lip Calligraphy Palette. What about you? Any NEW favorites or "lemmings" from this collection?

That Calligraphy palette ...
I KNOW!!!! I DIE!
DeleteThis...looks gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love the Calligraphy palette & I've worn Guerlain for over 25 years. The ONLY thing they've recently released that I do NOT like is the Automatique lipstick. The colours are fabulous, but the application is HORRIBLE. Trying to apply lipstick from a square container is awkward & annoying. I really hope they change it.
ReplyDeleteThe Calligraphy palette would do be for the entire year. Gorg colors!
ReplyDeleteThe Calligraphy palette... holy SMOKES! The perfumed shimmer sounds decadently luxurious, too. I've heard Liu is more or less Guerlain's version of Chanel No. 5, and honestly, anything with aldehydes is worth a try in my book. <3
ReplyDelete$170 ? Seriously? For powder?! How much will this be in Europe?! x
ReplyDeleteThe Eye & Lip Calligraphy palette is super gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteAt a loss for words....Want it all, *Need* Météorites Wulong, Calligraphy Palette and both polishes.
ReplyDeleteLove how the collection is Asian inspired and still uses a Caucasian model for the face of the campaign...
ReplyDeleteNonetheless, I think the collection looks GREAT!
That palette!
ReplyDeleteThe Lulong lipstick also lo0oks particularly gorgeous.
It's refreshing to see an opera inspiring a makeup collection.
I LOVE the eyeshadow placement and liner for this look!
ReplyDeleteOh sweet jesus. YOU ALWAYS GIVE ME GUERLAIN LEMMING ELVIRA! ALWAYS! *starts saving her pennies*
ReplyDeleteFrankly, I'm pretty disappointed in this campaign's theme. Why couldn't guerlain have hired an Asian model? Yes they have contracts with certain models but I think they should have either an Asian model or not have the theme at all. But at the same time I find the whole idea of romanticizing outdated ideas of the "orient" demeaning. I understand that many classic perfumes are inspired by the "orient" but to release a new product line with this kind of copywriting and to not actually use an Asian model is borderline offensive. The whole thing just reminds me of mickey rourke playing the Asian landlord in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Sorry for the long ramble but I just wanted to throw in my two cents. Thanks for the great posts as usual :)
ReplyDeleteHow do you define the word "asian"? The model, Natalia Vodianova, is Russian and thus can be considered "asian". I myself am from Russian and, if we're talking about where a person was born and not what they look like, I would be Eurasian as I was born in a city on the Ural mountains. And frankly, Guerlain is a European brand so using a "white" model is more appropriate.. I don't ever see people complaining about asian brands using asian models...
Deletelol no. on all counts. incorrect.
Delete^that was in response to the other anon, btw. i agree with victoria's point.
DeleteIt is an OPERA. It's a classic story. Do you want to just throw out all classics that deal with Asian themes?
DeleteAsians do not own the 'Asian Theme' and Guerlain does not have to hire an Asian model just to be PC. Vodianova has been their model for years now, she is associated with the brand and as the first anon said, she does have Asian flair and background, that's one of the secrets of her success.
I REALLY wish that that first eyeshadow shade was a liquid highlighter instead--now THAT would have gotten me excited! As it stands though, the collection seems a teeny bit "meh" to me--though that eyeshadow palette does look lovely in an understated way
ReplyDeleteWhoops--I meant to say "I really wish that first NAIL POLISH shade were a liquid highlighter instead" :P
DeleteGreat looking collection. I especially like the calligraphy palette!
ReplyDeleteI...must...have...it all! lol Ok, I'm going to make some well edited choices because the wallet will complain but the meteorites at least are mine. Turandot is certainly an interesting opera for inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't complain about the model necessarily, she is Russian and Russia spans both Europe and Asia. I didn't realize we were required to use only models of particular ethnic groups for certain campaigns. If Guerlain ran a Nordic themed collection, should they only be required to use tall blond, blue-eyed models?
@Victoria-THANK YOU! I am constantly ranting about how offensive the Mr. Yunioshi character is! My husband just says I'm sensitive! We also watched the Love Bug and there is an equally offensive stereotypical character.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, this collection looks gorgeous!!!! If I had the money I'd get the powder. In reality, maybe the plum polish is what I'll get. Lol.
*presses face to screen and drools*
Guerlain really outdid themselves with this collection. There isn't one thing in the entire collection that I don't want! Thanks for the great post. I've been meaning to tell you, you are my favorite blog. I love your wit and honesty and we share the same coloring and love of taupe eyeshadow. So I know if you love it, I probably will too! Thanks!
ReplyDelete*drool* That Calligraphy palette...oh my. I only own one Guerlain product, my Parure de Nuit Highlighter...this might be my second. My only extremely high end products. *sigh* I love the look of the models lips as well...
