Makeup Wars Favorite Red Lip - Guerlain Rouge G L'Extrait - Luxure

It's not secret that I LOVE red lipstick.  With over 55 entries on Red Lips alone, you know I have issues an obsession.  Well we are back in battle and this time we are warring over the Red Lips of the world.  Now many of you know that I believe there is a red lipstick for everyone in this world.  Some might have more than one, but there is at LEAST one that can work on you.  You just have to try and find it.  Thankfully there are 9 other bloggers participating in this battle of the Favorite Red Lipstick that I bet you might find something to suit you!

But let's focus on the lipstick we have at hand shall we?
Ladies and Gentlemen, I bring you the newest and most wonderful lip product to defy all other lip products across the globe.  From a small village in France, called Paris, I bring you a niche brand specializing in perfume, color and skin care. You may not have heard of them before.  It's a little brand I like to call Guerlain!

Guerlain Rouge G L'Extrait Luxure

What? You have heard of them before.  They've been around for years? Since 1828 you say. huh.  Oh Paris isn't a small village? It has a population of 12,161,542 as of 2009 and encompass approximately 40 square miles?  Yeah. Well I guess I was off on my numbers by a million or 12.  But ... but...What? Guerlain is renowned for their expert lipstick formulas and were credited with creating the very first hand push lipstick packaging in 1936?  Oh I guess I did know that.

OK. So I guess it will come as NO Surprise to you that their latest lipstick formula is one of the best around.  I guess when I tell you about how Guerlain released a new version of Rouge G, called Rouge G L'Extrait you won't be the least bit surprised that I instantly fell in love with the matte liquid lipstick formula that is packaged in a similar, but bigger than the original Rouge G packaging. The difference is that you pull then twist to open.  The people at Guerlain include handy directions for your first time using the product, You can peel it off once you get the hang of it.

Fine. The cat is out of the bag. I am IN LOVE with the new Guerlain Rouge G L'Extrait. We are going to get married.  You all are invited. We're registered at Cartier and Tiffany.

There are seven shades in the Guerlain Rouge G L'Extrait range. Of course all in French and they are named after the 7 deadly sins.

Luxure (brick-red) for lust.
Gourmandise (raspberry) for gluttony.
Avarice (beige) for greed.
Paresse (pink) for sloth.
Colère (red) for wrath.
Envie (orange) for envy.
Orguel (plum) for pride.

Gluttony and Sloth are 2 of my favorite deadly sins that I engage in on a regular basis.  However,  something about the color for lust, Luxure, just spoke to me.  Labeled a "brick red", I found it more of a true / neutral red. I didn't notice any brick or brown in it.  But whatever. It still looks HOT!

The formula is matte and it's slightly thick but nor waxy or dry by any means.  It practically glides across the lips leaving a rick pigmented opaque color in its wake.  It takes a few moments to dry down to the matte finish, but it acts like a lip stain at the same time, so as it wears off the color is still there and you don't get that dreaded ring of color around the lips.  It's also non sticky and does not have a very noticeable scent to it.  The best thing about this formula is that it isn't drying at all. I'm old and I have lived through the matte lip craze in the late 80's/early 90's and the long wear lip craze of the same period.  Both produced lipsticks that were horribly dry and crumbly on the lips.  The Sahara looked like a freakin rain forest in comparison to my lips after wearing some of those formulas.  But the Guerlain Rouge G L'Extrait does not have that nasty dry side effect. It feels moisturizing, yes I said moisturizing, on my lips.  It is a pleasure to wear. It is....dare I say it...SINFUL!
