Thursday Poll

I still remember my kindergarten teacher folding my plastic Tinkerbell wings to fit in my cubby and in the act of doing so, she managed to break them and the were cut in half.  What did that stupid woman insist on putting those wings, that obviously couldn't fit in a cubby, inside the cubby? She ruined my Halloween costume. I was freakin TINKERBELL! With my Tinkerbell wings broken I was just some stupid kid in a lime green leotard with frilly accents. The Tinkerbell wing debacle happened over 3 decades ago, yet I still remember it like it was yesterday.  Halloween has never been the same.  Kindergarten was never the same.  Speaking of which, Darthypie is in Kindergarten now. Can you believe he is so old now?  But Kindergarten in the 1970's versus the 2010's is VERY different.  As to be expected.  I'm happy that Darthypie has computers in the classroom, a more diversified curriculum and all that, but the one thing I'm not to thrilled about....the hours.  You see Kindergarten, where I live is only a half day.  Actually, less than a half day, three hours to be exact. THREE!  How any child can get some learning in, in only 3 hours is beyond me.  Seems like a total waste of time, but whatever, what do I know.  Obviously he is learning, He can read a few words and his counting is better. but 3 hours? Lame.  Of course if my Kindergarten was only 3 hours I wouldn't have had broken Tinkerbell wings and broken dreams of being Tinkerbell when I grew up.  I vaguely remember Kindergarten. I know we had naps. I LOVED naps!  I remember reading and being scolded for working ahead in my workbook. I remember not much else.  I suppose the Tinkerbell wing incident made me block the rest of those horrible images from my mind.  It's probably a protective measure. I'm not completely clear if Darthypie will be allowed to dress up at school for Halloween. I think he will, but then again, maybe not.  He wants to go as a Jawa.  Mr. Sith made him a costume where the eyes light up, he has a really cool blaster that Mr. Sith custom Modified and it's a pretty cool costume, if I do say so myself.

But now I worry that something will happen, and some teacher will try to force his costume into a cubby that's isn't big enough and the whole thing will break.  You see. I'm scarred from the whole Tinkerbell incident.  I'll try to be strong, and not show Darthypie my concern. I'll try to act very "casual" about the whole Halloween dress up and not mention that horrible incident that haunts me to this day.  I will be strong for him.  What's that?  He now wants to be Boba Fett?

Oh well heck. That costume was from a store and can't really be broken because it's all fabric and a helmet.  Sweet.  Disaster Averted!
On To The Poll!

1. Lip Of The Day? - YSL Rouge Volupté Perle 104 Stellar Pink. It's a nice neutral slightly frosty pink. I hate the scent of it, but it's an "emergency" lipstick I keep at work in case I forget to bring one with me...like today.

2.  What was your favorite Halloween costume (Or any dress up costume, if you don't celebrate Halloween) as a kid? - Tinkerbell.  See horrific story above.

3.  Urban Decay is having their annual Friends & Family event through this Saturday the 13th of October.  (Using code: FFHOLIDAY12) Are you planning (or have you already) on picking anything up? - I was, but I'm not sure if I will. I can always use a back up 24/7 Liquid Waterproof liner in Perversion, but I have a back up that I haven't opened yet.  I might pass.

4.  Have you ever been to a Halloween Themed Haunted House or its non Halloween equivalent? - Nope. I'd like to go to one, but they don't really have them where I live, as far as I know.

5.  Name a cosmetic brand that you remember but has been discontinued (Kinda like the wings of my Tinkerbell costume, the company folded.) - Oh so many, because I'm so old. But I'll do one really old one.  Flame Glow. And a more recent one. Club Monaco.

  1. FYI kindergarten is 8 hours here, wich is why kids have naps in the PM. Obviously parents WORK and can't come and pick their offspring after 3 hours. Plus, once they are of kindergarten age, they're not accepted in daycare anymore so yeah, kindergarten is the modern baby sitting of working parents.

    1. Lip Of The Day? - Dior Addict in Miss Dior

    2. What was your favorite Halloween costume (Or any dress up costume, if you don't celebrate Halloween) as a kid? - no Halloween here, I once went to a costume party as Bécassine. Google her, she's a french cartoon character. A bit of a stupid one I'm afraid.

    3. Urban Decay is having their annual Friends & Family event through this Saturday the 13th of October. (Using code: FFHOLIDAY12) Are you planning (or have you already) on picking anything up? - guess what, we don't have Halloween and we don't have F&F. Not that I need any more makeup anyway.

    4. Have you ever been to a Halloween Themed Haunted House or its non Halloween equivalent? - gosh no!

    5. Name a cosmetic brand that you remember but has been discontinued (Kinda like the wings of my Tinkerbell costume, the company folded.) -
Nivea recently discontinued their range of makeup, which is a shame. As a teenager I used a brand called Liliane France which was very similar but disappeared, I always thought Nivea had bought them but it's an unverified theory and anyway they're all gone now.

  2. Aw, look at Darthypie! Too cute! And I am so sorry that happened to your Tinkerbell wings. A good teacher would know not to do that!

    1. Lip Of The Day? - Stila lip glaze in Spiced Cider - LE from many years ago. Super pretty.

    2. What was your favorite Halloween costume (Or any dress up costume, if you don't celebrate Halloween) as a kid? - I was a mermaid in first grade. I had a huge mermaid obsession (still do) and my mother made me an awesome costume based on Madison from the movie Splash. Loved it.

    3. Urban Decay is having their annual Friends & Family event through this Saturday the 13th of October. (Using code: FFHOLIDAY12) Are you planning (or have you already) on picking anything up? Nah.

    4. Have you ever been to a Halloween Themed Haunted House or its non Halloween equivalent? - Yes, when I was little and I got so scared the people working there kindly got out of character and escorted me out through the emergency exit. My parents felt so bad - they didn't know that particular haunted house was going to be that scary! LOL. Oddly enough, as an adult I still won't go into those haunted houses, but I can't get enough horror movies. Go figure.

    5. Name a cosmetic brand that you remember but has been discontinued (Kinda like the wings of my Tinkerbell costume, the company folded.) - Stephane Marais. Some of the best packaging ever.

  3. 1. Lip Of The Day? - my own diy tinted gloss made from a Burt's Bees chapstick and a Revlon pink creme lipstick

    2. What was your favorite Halloween costume (Or any dress up costume, if you don't celebrate Halloween) as a kid? - When I was little, we had a "what will you be in the future" day and all the kids dressed up like old people but I dressed up like an inter-galactic rockstar astronaut.

    3. Urban Decay is having their annual Friends & Family event through this Saturday the 13th of October. (Using code: FFHOLIDAY12) Are you planning (or have you already) on picking anything up? - No. I don't wear much UD cosmetics

    4. Have you ever been to a Halloween Themed Haunted House or its non Halloween equivalent? - Yes and its a cheap thrill. I worked at one as well. But nothing beats a dark, quiet run-down farmhouse at the edge of town, next to cemetery. Again, cheap thrill!

    5. Name a cosmetic brand that you remember but has been discontinued (Kinda like the wings of my Tinkerbell costume, the company folded.) - I know none because I don't have a long history with makeup!

  4. I know Fairfax county only does full-day kindy now. It's dependent on which county you're residing in, in VA. I know PW and think Loudoun still do half day.

    1. Nekkid right now. I haven't left the house yet, so I'm sans anything right now.

    2. I was Tank Girl for several halloweens in a row as a preteen. That was pretty fun.

    3. I may pick up the Ocho Loco set- I managed to get given a Vice palette recently, so my makeup budget is a bit bigger at the moment.

    4. I went to one in a church once. It was a bit of a lie of a haunted house- it was more a proselytizing effort. I was sorely disappointed and annoyed I paid $5 for the privilege of being preached to about how Halloween is evil.

    5. Naturistics. Man, I loved their stuff as a kid.

  5. 1. Lip Of The Day? - Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie.

    2. What was your favorite Halloween costume (Or any dress up costume, if you don't celebrate Halloween) as a kid? - The Wicked Witch of the West. My Mom sold Mary Kay and had these huge pink patent leather cases with all her supplies in them which were off, off limits. She used those kits to do my makeup that Halloween... I was mesmerized. Very special.

    3. Urban Decay is having their annual Friends & Family event through this Saturday the 13th of October. (Using code: FFHOLIDAY12) Are you planning (or have you already) on picking anything up? - No, I do not use Urban Decay.

    4. Have you ever been to a Halloween Themed Haunted House or its non Halloween equivalent? - Not a themed one per say, but I went to the fireman's haunted house in their old firehouse in the first grade. I was terrified and accidentally kicked one of the performers; then, I saw Yoda (and being so young, I believed it was truly Yoda) and I said to myself 'if Yoda is here I must be safe because he is good and is probably keeping all these evil forces at bay.' Man, I wish a person in a Yoda suit could take stress away like that today!

    5. Name a cosmetic brand that you remember but has been discontinued (Kinda like the wings of my Tinkerbell costume, the company folded.) - Ultima II. I remember my Dad booked a makeup consultation for me at the counter in Macy's back in the '80s when I was first allowed to wear makeup. I thought I was a movie star! I remember my first lipstick: Dramatic Lilac, it came in a cream case with gold accents! Oooh la-la!

  6. 1. Fresh Lip Sugar balm, as usual.

    2. When I was 16, I was inspired by the musical, Cats, so I bought a black unitard, a tail & ears, white leg-warmers & gloves, and did my makeup like those is the musical.

    3. I just picked up Vice *and* Smoked last weekend, so I'm pretty much on a "no-buy" until after Christmas-I have to play Santa Claus...

    4. Halloween is almost bigger than Christmas in my home, so yes, we *always* went to some sort of event. Even the teens at my church put on a Haunted House, and had a big celebration, with no preaching the "evils" of Halloween. I actually worked as talent on the Queen Mary Haunted Ship a couple of seasons, several years back.

    5. I *really* miss Max Factor! I know, it's not "technically" DC'd, but it may as well be here in the US. I remember the Max Factor museum in Hollywood had a CCO next to it, and sold mainly MF at a steep discount, especially considering how inexpensive it was, already. I was just getting into makeup, and my mom would give $20, and I'd walk out with at *least* 10 items...

  7. 1. Chanel Rouge Coco in Caractere

    2. One year I went as a book. I created a carboard book frame--like sandwich boards--and had a cover with an inside handle that I could open, and the front "page" of the book said "Trick or Treat". So I would go around and open the book and say "read me".

    3. I bought Ocho Loco from UD, and I'm considering going back for Naked foundation and the brush. Or the Vice palette. Or both.

    4. I've been to some pretty cool parties but I don't think I've ever been to an official haunted house.

    5. Max Factor! I kow they're not gone but you can't get them in the US anymore, so it kinda counts, right? :)

  8. I think my answers would be boring today, but I still wanted to say Darthypie looks badass! Ok, I'm lying, he looks adorable (mini-jawa and mini-boba fett FTW!)
