Votre Vu Le Joli Crayon Soft Eye Liner in Aubergine - Review, Pictures Swatches

Votre Vu Le Joli Crayon Eyeliner in Aubergine

I may have taken french for almost 4 years of high school but I have retained none of what I learned. I can only say a few select words and phrases in French. (en Français)
1 Jambon- This is a good word to know if you are hungry
2 Je ne parle pas français. Je ne comprends pas le français. - Those two phrases came in real handy when I was in Montreal!
3 Je voudrais un verre d'eau - This is a good phrase to know if you are thirsty.
4 Il met la lotion sur sa peau ou bien il obtient à nouveau le tuyau. - This is a good phrase to know if you are ever abducted by a serial killer.
5 Oui. Je voudrais bien vous faire passer beaucoup d'argent sur moi à la boutiques Chanel, Serge Lutens et Guerlain. - This is a good phrase to know if you meet an incredibly wealthy man in Paris.
and
6 Aubergine - This is a good word to know if you are hungry or need to describe a color.

Of course Aubergine is an easy one to remember because it is also used as a color in English. Aubergine = Eggplant.  A dark purple ranging from a blue based to brown based purple.  7 J'aime la couleur de l'aubergine. It makes my eyes look more green!

When the loverly people at Votre Vu sent me their new Le Joli Crayon Soft Eye Liner in Aubergine I was 8 très excited. You see Votre Vu just released its premier color collection called French Accents. They offer a tinted Moisturizer, Creme Blush, Mascara, Brow Powder and liner, to name a few.   As I said, I was very excited except for the fact that...well. I don't really use pencil liners.  I do sometimes..but for the most part, I'm a liquid liner gal.  That of course didn't stop me from playing with the liner to see what sort of look I could create with it.  9 Bien sûr! I found a way to work with the soft and smudgeable eyeliner!

This gel pencil feels smooth and fluid and allows me some time before setting to smudge the line with its sponge blending tip. When applying there was no tugging and tearing on my delicate eyelid...the main reason why I don't use pencil liners.  But the best part is, once it is set this liner is budge-proof, smudge-proof and melt-proof!

According to Votre Vu Le Joli Crayon Soft Eye Liner in Aubergine is "rich in mineral pigments, anti-aging fruit extracts, and vitamin E, this super-conditioning, proprietary formula nourishes and hydrates the delicate eye area while treating with healing free-radical fighters. Botanically harvested candelilla wax not only provides the effortless glide, but also seals in the mineral-color blend for long-wearing, intense peeper pigment that once dry, forms an impermeable waterproof layer. As easy to remove as it is to apply, this ophthalmologist-tested formula is the ultimate on-the-go liner."

Votre Vu Le Joli Crayon Eyeliner in Aubergine Swatch

The color is between a purple and a brown. The swatch on the Votre Vu website certainly looks brown, but the color says 10 Aubergine, qui n'est certainement pas brun.  I paired it with my Stars Makeup Haven eyeshadow in 7 to make a plum (or Aubergine) colored smokey eye. I think it worked out pretty well.  Of course I really didn't expect it to last.  Well when I looked in the mirror, before going out to dinner, I said 11 "Quelle surprise". My Votre Vu Le Joli Crayon Eyeliner was still intact and looking as fresh as when I put it on over 6 hours ago!  Now that is pretty nice.

Something else that is pretty nice, Votre Vu will donate $1 from each French Accents Cosmetic purchased to the St. Baldrick's Foundation to support efforts to treat and cure pediatric cancers.

Do you NEED this?  Well, Maybe. It certainly isn't the least expensive eyeliner on the market at $23 USD.  But there are other eyeliners that I think are comparable in quality and pigmentation that cost about as much or more.  Plus it comes with a pencil sharpener, so that's kinda cool.
As a comparison:
Armani Eyes to Kill Waterproof Eye Pencil $28
Bobbi Brown Long Wear Eye Pencil $24
Dior Crayon Eyeliner Waterproof  $29
Lancome Long Lasting Eyeliner Waterproof  $25
MUFE Aqua Eyes $18
NARS Larger than Life Long Wear Eyeliner $23
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil $19
YSL Long Lasting Waterproof Eye Pencil (with Sharpener) $29
I think the Joli Crayon Soft Eyeliner is as soft as an Urban Decay 24/7 liner, but not as pigmented.  It is certainly as long lasting as the YSL and Armani eye liners. If I had my choice I would go with Urban Decay based on the color selection and pigmentation. If I could only choose between YSL, and Votre Vu, I would choose the Votre Vu. That being said. They fact that it is only available on line makes the Votre Vu liner less appealing because I can simply go to my local store and pick up a liner immediately and not have to wait for shipping or bear the added expense.

What say you?  Is this the Aubergine you have been looking for?

7 I love the color eggplant.
8 very
9 Of Course!
10 Eggplant, which is certainly not brown
11 What a surprise.

  1. Ah tu parles un peu de français alors? Mais c'est quand même chouette! Ma deuxième langue est le français donc ça me plait de lire cet article :-)
As for the eye liner, I'm not too impressed with it really. Not with the color, nor with the quality.
