Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette Images and Information

Urban Decay has launched their newest palette called Naked Basics.  This is a long awaited, much needed and multi-purpose matte shadow companion to the two Naked palettes.  This is truly a palette that every woman can use.  For women that are fans of neutral eye makeup (Like me) to women that are bright eyeshadow color fanatics who are looking for base shades or highlighting shades to pair with their bolder shadows.   Urban Decay's neutral matte shades are very wearable and will look great on literally everyone!  They have mastered the art of making matte shadows ultra smooth, pigmented and soft.  Their matte shadows are never chalky or powdery.

Urban Decay's best selling palette of Naked and Naked2 are proof that neutral is anything BUT boring.  They are also proof that a company well known for fantastic bright and colorful eyeshadows, knows how important it is to have great neutrals to compliment those over the top colors.  Let's face it, if a neutral loving girl, like myself is drooling over an Urban Decay palette then they must be doing something right!

You really can do a lot with these colors. You can use the shadows to contour and define your eyes and then add a bright pop of color!  You can take it from office to After Hours with an addition of a colorful shade or using the darker colors of the palette to smoke out your daytime look.

According to Urban Decay, the chic soft-touch case has a slight sheen and it feels like suede. This palette is small and compact so it will travel well, no matter where you go!  Honestly, this palette looks like it should be in your purse at all times.  (I'm just sayin').
Urban Decay Naked Basics includes four new and exclusive eyeshadow colors, one color only available in a previous palette (Foxy from Naked2) and one all-time staff favorite (Walk of Shame from the Permanent Collection of Singles).   Each Eyeshadow features Urban Decay's brand new Pigment Infusion System™, the proprietary blend of ingredients that gives every shade its velvety texture, rich color, serious staying power and blendability.

The shades are:
Venus  – soft, off-white demi-matte (Perfect for highlight and adding dimension)
Foxy – very light yellow/beige matte
Walk of Shame – very light pinky nude matte
Naked2 – rosy taupe matte (TAUPE!!!)
Faint – warm, dusty brown matte
Crave – deepest, darkest brown/black matte

The Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette will retail for $27 and is currently only available at, but will soon be available from Sephora, ULTA and select Macy’s stores. Or, online at,,, and

Does this new palette strike your fancy?  Are you craving "Crave" eyeshadow?  Does the sight of "Faint" eyeshadow make you faint? I could go on with the cheeky questions, but why not tell me what you think?

Kiehl's Holiday Gift Wishlist

It's that time of year again where you want to get gifts for almost everyone but aren't quite sure what to get for little Timmy's teacher or the UPS man (since he spends so much time at my house I feel like I need to get him something), or the Barista at your local coffee house.  Well I have 7 great gift ideas from Kiehl's.  One of my more favorite skin care companies has so many sweet gifts for almost everyone in your life.  I personally am a new addict to their Creme de Corps lotion and I have put a few of the items form this list on MY wishlist for Mr. Sith to pick up. (HINT HINT).  But what I like most about Kiehl's is their customer service.  They have wonderful customer service at their counters, stand alone stores and on line!  They are generous with samples when you visit a counter or store and have a wonderful attitude about returns.  Should you purchase anything from them that is not 100% pleasing to you, you can return it for a full refund.  That's even true of the Kiehl's website too!  But I bet you will have a hard time finding something that needs to be returned in the first place.  So let's take a look at 7 gifts that I think are some of the best offerings for this year!

1. Aromatic Blends Orange Flower & Lychee Gift Set - $70.00
I put this first because I'm worried Mr.Sith won't read this full post and he will miss the fact that I REALLY want this for the holidays!  (HINT HINT MR. SITH!). Dubbed "the complete fragrant body collection", this fragrant set is a fusion of Orange Flower and Lychee sweetened with a touch of honey and rounded out by Moroccan Rose.  This I have tested in person and i must say...DELIGHTFUL!  I NEED this in my life, and you do too!  This set includes:

2.  Lip Balm Giftables - $30.00
Kiehl's #1 bestseller comes in 4 varieties in this keen little set.  This lip balm has been one of Kiehl's best sellers since 1969 (Hey that's even before I was born!). I have gone through many tubes of this lip balm in the past and must say it feels great but also smells amazing too. The colorful boxes in this set contain four versions of Kiehl's lip balm.

3.  Creme de Corps Collection - $64.00
As a new devotee of Kiehl's Creme de Corps I can tell you that this set would make anyone unfamiliar with the Creme de Corps collection fall madly in love.  Have a friend or co worker with painfully dry skin? This collection of classic Kiehl's for men formulas is the perfect answer to gift giving for that one (or more than one) man in your life that could use a good sprucing up, or for ones that already take care of their skin.  Have an uncle that is always sharply dressed and freshly shaved?  What about a male co-worker that you owe for helping you that big project?  Your dad in need of a good pick me up?  Well this set of every day classic Kiehl's formulas for men will do the trick.  This set includes:

6.  Aromatic Blends Coffret Set - $55.00
Coffret is a French word for Box or Boxed set (loosely translated). And everyone knows how wonderful the French are with fragrance.  Well Kiehl's has also expanded into the fragrance arena and they are offering a set of all 4 of their Aromatic Blends Scents arranged in a beautiful gift box.  This set will carry you away on a fragrant journey around the world. Each scent pairing is sourced the world over for the most unique, effective ingredients. This set contains:
  • Orange Flower & Lychee Fragrance Spray (10ml)
  • Vanilla & Cedarwood Fragrance Spray (10ml)
  • Nashi Blossom & Pink Grapefruit Fragrance Spray (10ml)
  • Fig Leaf & Sage Fragrance Spray (10ml)
I have sniffed all four scents and my personal favorites are Orange Flower & Lychee and Fig Leaf & Sage. But I have to say that the Vanilla & Cedarwood and the Nashi Blossom & Pink Grapefruit are also really very nice.  In fact, now that I think about it, I don't really know which one is my favorite. I think I want (NEED) them all.  Are you paying attention MR. SITH?  (HINT HINT) You can purchase this at Kiehl', Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus.

Thursday Poll

Passwords. I must have 7 billion of them. It's impossible to remember them all so I have to have an app that tells me what all of them are.  Thank goodness I have an app on my phone to tell me because before I had a little note that was PASSWORD protected that told me all the silly passwords.  And I know what you are thinking, why not have one password for everything.  Well then I might as well let my password be "password" because that's not very secure at all.  If a hacker figures out one password, they use it for all of your other accounts and guess what?  Yup. they now have access to everything. So let's see. I have multiple e-mail accounts, social network accounts, e-commerce accounts, work e-mail accounts, work software accounts, ugh. It's probably 50 or so passwords.  I just decided to start doing random numbers and letters because I seriously couldn't begin to remember them all.  My memory is crap. I mean seriously. I have the worst memory. I blame it on the fact that my brain is full up with movie quotes, incorrect song lyrics, things that cannot be unseen, and makeup names and colors.  If I could just delete information like I can on my compute I would be set.  How awesome would it be to have a plug in the back of your head to upload and download information.  Sure. Like in the movie The Matrix.  Only we wouldn't be par of some horrible robot conspiracy and "Agents" wouldn't be trying to kill us, but to upload a kung fu file and then KNOW kung fu afterwards, would be awesome!  Think about studying for a test. It would take three seconds.  Learning to drive a car a half a second, reading all the classic novels maybe 10 seconds.  Our brains are very powerful and we apparently only use a small percentage of it, we would have so much room for more stuff!  Plus if we go through an incredibly bad relationship, we can just download that info and get rid of it. Perhaps you were one of the people that watched 2 girls, 1 cup. you could get rid of the old "what has been seen cannot be unseen" in a second and saves hundreds of dollars on not having to go into therapy!  Oh sure, our experience and memories make us the person we are today and without those experiences we would be different, but come on.  I think we all want to un-remember Transformers 2 or Jar Jar Binks or Roseanne Barr singing the National Anthem.  Right?  Well until we get USB ports into our brains I guess I'll just try to work on remembering things, like where the heck I put my car keys and what purse or coat I left my Hourglass lip gloss in.
On To The Poll!

1.  Blush Of The Day? - Chanel Joues Contraste in Rose Petale.  A standard for days when I'm too sleepy to think about coordinating blush to my makeup or outfit.

2.  Do you remember all your passwords or do you have an app or do you have to constantly re-set them? - I will answer YES to all three because i have an app, but if I don't update it I forget the passwords and then have to re-set. Very annoying.

3.  Is there a beauty product everyone is excited about but you're just Meh about it? - The Laura Mercier Art Deco collection. I still find her makeup quite un-pigmented (even in the swatches I have seen of the new collection). I'm just not excited about it.

4.  What is your earliest memory? - I remember swimming in the bay by my aunt's beach house in New York and the blue plastic plates we ate off of in the house.  That's it.

5.  Is there a beauty brand or product that everyone is has been excited about for a while and you FINALLY purchased it or something from that brand? - Yes. Makeup Geek eyeshadows. I finally broke down and ordered 4 of them last night. I don't need any more eyeshadows, but I have seen the swatches and I'm intrigued.  Plus there are many taupes to choose from!!

Birchbox November Box - Review, Pictures, Swatches

Okie Dokie!  So my November Birchbox arrived around Thanksgiving and to be quite honest, I have been so overwhelmed with holiday collections and other makeup I completely forgot about posting this box.  Well here I am, finally with what was in the November Birchbox.  Now I have heard from other subscribers that some of them were quite unhappy with their November boxes as they were full of skin care and devoid of makeup.  My box was not like that at all.

Let's take a closer look at what I received.

J.R. Watkins Hand & Cuticle Salve, ModelCo SHINE Ultra Lip Gloss, Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner, Chuao Chocolatier Assorted ChocoPod, and Curly Hair Solutions™ Curl Keeper.  OK. So no skin care, but a body care item, hair care and food...again.  At least there were any perfume samples.

This item was in the blue box within the Birchbox.  It was meant to be used as a small gift for a friend.  Since I have no friends I kept it for myself.   The hand salve has canola, olive, and sweet almond oils  and is free of harsh chemicals.  It is the Lavender scented salve (not a fan) and it comes in 2 other scents.  It smells like lavender and herbs and quiet desperation.

ModelCo SHINE Ultra Lip Gloss - 4ml $16.00
I received the gloss in Berry Pink. It comes in 2 other shades.  This gloss is touted as non sticky but honestly I wouldn't know because I couldn't bear to apply it to my lips.  It is so heavily fragranced with that fake synthetic strawberry scent, it was all I could do not to hurl as I was taking pictures.  (Now THAT'S an image for you!)

This gloss comes with a mirror on the side for "on the go application" because I'm so busy like a supermodel, that I don't have time to stop to put on lip gloss!  If you can get past the scent it's not a bad color and the sparkles make it pretty.

Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner (in black) $11.00
My pencil arrived damaged. the top had come off during shipping and the liner tip got all smooshed (That's the technical term)  Anyway. I was too lazy to sharpen it but it had enough exposed liner to do a swatch.  The liner is VERY soft, so I can see how easily this would "smoosh" it is also a decent black color...once you build it up.

Sadly tho, one swipe is not going to make it.  The liner (once set) stayed put for a long time and there is enough time to smoke it out or blend it if needed.  However, for the price, I would rather get another brand that I know is reliable.

Curly Hair Solutions™ Curl Keeper - 100ml $10.00
This water based gel promises to add definition and control frizz all while leaving your curls soft and not crunchy.  I haven't used this gel yet because I just purchased a big bottle of Ouidad from Birchbox back in September. Oh well. I'll take it with me on my next trip and see how it works.  It sounds promising and for only $10 the price is right!

Chuao Chocolatier Assorted ChocoPod - 7 pack $7.95
More food!  Thanks Birchbox. I would rather get food than hair twisties that are neon orange!  I received one (Honeycomb) of the 7 flavors that come in the assorted package.  The 7-piece set includes: Potato Chip (kettle chips and sea salt in milk chocolate), Sweet and Salty (milk chocolate with a hint of salt), Maple Bacon (crisp bacon with a dose of maple sweetness and smoked sea salt in milk chocolate), Honeycomb (amber honey caramelized into crispy pieces in dark chocolate), Salted Chocolate Crunch (toasted breadcrumbs with sea salt in dark chocolate), Spicy Maya (a spicy blend of pasilla chile, cinnamon, and cayenne in dark chocolate), and Firecracker (chipotle caramel fudge dotted with popping candy and salt in dark chocolate).  To be honest. I think to got the best flavor.  At least each bar is just 60 to 50 calories each so I could eat an entire box in a week without feeling guilty.  however for over a $1.14 per bar I'd rather just have a Snickers.

This month's box was NOT exciting for me.  I don't think there is one product that I would purchase a full size of from this collection.  I am still keeping my subscription for now. However, should the quality of the boxes continue to decline I will have to seriously re-consider my subscription. I am getting a bit over loaded with samples so Birchbox really needs to step up their game.  I still believe that saving $10-$15 a month and using those savings at the end of the year or every 6 months in order to buy one super, ultra, mega awesome item is better than all the sample boxes in the world. That's just my opinion.

I have provided my referral link HERE.  As I have said in the past, signing up for Birchbox through my referral link will get me referral points which I can use toward purchases from the Birchbox store. So far, this is the only beauty subscription service where I have shared my referral code.  I have provided my referral code only once in his post.  (Located above with the "HERE" designation) Throughout the rest of this post I have used non referral links to Birchbox.  If you choose not to sign up though my referral code, I'm totally OK with that. The non-referral Birchbox links in the post will not give me any points or special favors from the company if you decide to click on them.

Birchbox October Box - Review, Pictures, Swatches

Oh yes. You read the title correctly. OCTOBER box. Yup. Birchbox had a little shipping SNAFU and my October Birchbox did not ship in a timely fashion. This was partially due to Hurricane Sandy, but also, they didn't ship it until after the Hurricane hit...Normally they ship it on the 15th of the month. But I really can't fault them 100%. I mean there was a huge natural disaster that prevented a lot of things from happening. AND Birchbox Customer Service kept in touch with me often and kept giving me "points" to use for shopping in their on line store, which I do quite often. In total they credited me with 200 points which is equal to $20 to use in their store. I think that's more than fair since the box itself only costs me $10. My delayed Birchbox showed up on October 30th. I was headed to Montreal the next day, and when I got back, I simply forgot about posting a review until my November Birchbox showed up last week. (I'll post a review of that soon and link it back here)

So let's talk about what was in this October box.

I received Kérastase Chroma Sensitive, Harvey Prince Eau Flirt Fragrance, theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer luminizer, Naked Princess Naked Shine Luscious Lip Gloss,  and a LUNA Fiber Chocolate Raspberry bar.  Not a ton of stuff. But almost every product in the box I am fairly happy with.

image from

Let's start with the fragrance sample.  Meh. You all know how I feel about these. Unless it's a mini bottle I don't find these worth much at all. I can walk into any store that sells this or get a free sample on line, so I'm not excited about this item.  Plus I didn't really like the scent all that much. It's a lavender, which isn't my favorite and pumpkin (which has no scent BY THE WAY!!!) which basically means nutmeg and cinnamon and maybe clove.  Bleh. Not for me.

This is what Kérastase recommends you use the first three times after coloring your hair.  It's VERY similar to those "cleansing conditioners" which are so popular. I liked the scent of the sample I got, but it wasn't enough (even w/ 2 packets) for all of my hair. My hair was soft after use, but like I said I didn't have enough to gauge how it works properly. I miiight consider purchasing it, but it is VERY expensive.  If any of you have had experience with this specific product, I would love to hear your thoughts.

A very pretty highlighter/luminizer. The powder is soft but not as finely milled as some other high end highlighters I own.  You know what a nut I am about highlighters.  The full size is a decent amount but not overly large and at $24 is a pretty good deal.

The golden color is pretty with almost any skin tone and gives that soft glow like you are in candlelight. Who doesn't look good in that lighting, right?

This brand is new to me.  Apparently  this is a lip plumping gloss that does not irritate your lips.  It reminded me of the Lip Fusion plumping glosses in that it didn't sting, but this gloss was much less sticky than those old Lip Fusion ones.  The range of colors is pretty weak. The glosses are all so sheer that it really wouldn't matter which one you picked, unless your lips lack any sort of natural pigmentation.

The sample I received is Barely Blush. It's barely noticeable, but it wasn't sticky, it felt moisturizing, it was VERY glossy, it smelled nice and had a sweet flavor to it.  However I did not experience any increase in volume of my lips.  My lips are fairly full, so maybe that's all they can manage. Ha Ha.  According to Birchbox, the Naked Princess Glosses have peptides that spur collagen production, which in turn reduces fine lines and helps lips look fuller.  So maybe after repeated use I might notice a difference.

LUNA Fiber Chocolate Raspberry - $14.95 for 12 bars
OK. I'm not a huge fan of receiving food in my Birchbox but it's better than laundry detergent or paper coasters, so I'm OK.  This LUNA bar is quite tasty and at only 110 calories with 3.5 g of fat I won't feel so bad eating this as a snack from time to time.  Plus it has  calcium, folic acid, iron, vitamins D, and 7 grams of fiber per bar. Not too bad.  But also at almost $15 a box, I don't think I could have them more than once or twice a week without going broke.

All in all this box wasn't too bad. Better late than never, right? I'm keeping my subscription for now. But I am getting a bit over loaded with samples and I need to tighten my belt budget wise, so I might consider cancelling my subscription in the new year.  I also still believe that saving $10-$15 a month and using those savings at the end of the year or every 6 months in order to buy one super, ultra, mega awesome item is better than all the sample boxes in the world. That's just my opinion.

Makeup Wars - Holiday Metallics

Makeup Wars is back. This time we are bringing you our favorite holiday metallics. That could mean anything from nail polish to lipstick to eyeliner to eyeshadow to...well...any beauty item with a metallic look to it.  As much as I like to think I have a lot of "cool" makeup, I went through my collection and well, most of it, is taupe.  Big surprise, right?  But I wanted to feature a metallic item that hasn't been featured before on the blog.  Sure I could have just re-posted about the Bobbi Brown Chrome Eyeshadow in Pewter, or perhaps focused on Inglot eyeshadow P448, Maybe I could have re-done the post about Hourglass Extreme Sheen Lip Gloss in Siren, a metallic red, since the lip picture look so awful or maybe I should have re-featured Milani Lip Flash in Hot Flash, yet another red metallic.  But why re-hash old stuff when I can BUY NEW STUFF!!!  Especially NEW NAIL POLISH!  Hellooo!!! I love buying new nail polish.  I also love buying metallic nail polish. After duochrome nail polish, metallic is my favorite finish.  So today I bring you....

Taa Daa!

This set of mini nail polish trios comes in glamorous golds with rich metallic finishes and textures.

According to Sephora this set was inspired by Pantone’s 2013 Plus Series Metallic Book.  Apparently, this season is all about the rich gleam of rose gold, the chilled shine of silver, and the fiery glow of bronze. (so of course I get gold, I'm so unfashionable).  The nail polishes are limited-edition and "...are packaged in complementary trios, combining beautiful shades with eye-catching finishes: metallic, sparkle, and metallic-matte."  You can use each color separately or you can combine them.  I chose to use one all on it's glorious metallic-y own and then combine the other two. However You could combine all three as one of the shades (Latte) is sheer enough to work over the solid metallic (Olive Gray).  Of course I already own several metallic nail polishes.  two of which are like a mirror finish, but  couldn't resist this sweet little trio.  I might have to go back and buy the ones in Silver and Red too!  (I'm a sucker)

So without further ado....

Sephora + Pantone Universe Olive Gray

This opaque metallic is beautiful. It's my favorite in the set. It is nearly opaque in one coat. This finish is so reflective and mirror like I almost did a little dance when I first applied it.  This photo is shown without a clear top coat.  The ONLY thing I didn't like about this polish was the brush. It was a little too fluffy and a little too floppy.  That wasn't the case with the other two polishes in this set, so I believe it is a quality control issue.  But I managed to still do a half decent job getting an even coat with NO streaks! (Streaks are the bane of my existence when it comes to frost and metallic finishes)

Sephora + Pantone Universe Latte with Starfish accent nail.

Latte is more of a glass fleck metallic. It is fairly sheer and I believe would look awesome layered over Olive Gray. Sadly I didn't think of doing this until I was half asleep. (That's when all my best ideas come to me)  In the picture above is two coats with no clear top coat.  One coat was sheer and because the polish leveled itself pretty well there were no streaks.  This is a very pretty and delicate nail polish. The brush was fine in this bottle.

Sephora + Pantone Universe Starfish on ring finger and thumb

Gold Glitter is the idea here. It's fairly large hexagonal glitter that seems to layer quite nicely, however one coat and this will give a nice, sparse all over glitter look to the nail.  Here I applied it rather heavy, but didn't have problems with the glitter dragging or making bare spots as I reapplied. I'm sure you could apply this on all your fingers, but I feat that the small bottle may be used up quickly.

All in all I found the application of these nail polishes easy.  The formula was a good consistency (not too thin, not too thick). The drying time was fairly quick too. (without a top coat). I cannot attest to the longevity of the wear with these polishes as I seriously got them last night, but so far so good.  The trio retails for $18 USD and s sold exclusively at Sephora.  The polishes are 0.22 fl oz each, which is smaller than the average 0.40 fl oz of regular sized polishes.  What do you think?  Will these be on your holiday wish list?

Now check out the 14 other fabulous bloggers with their favorite holiday metallics. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!
