Thursday Poll

Air Travel has to be the most degrading thing that people actually pay for.  (OK not the most, but it is pretty bad)  As some of you know, I recently flew to Montreal, Quebec.  I had forgotten how absolutely wretched the TSA can be at times. I am determined to greet everyone I meet with a smile and a pleasantry.  If that smile is returned all the better. But seriously. If you work in a Customer Service profession, TRY to exhibit some...you know...CUSTOMER SERVICE.  My pleasant trip was only  disturbed by one in-duh-vidual at the check in desk.  Now mind you during my ENTIRE travel session I was met with only 1 person that was particularly nasty.  Everyone else was nice, cordial, helpful, etc.  I pretty much lucked out.  But the one woman at the check in desk on my outbound trip.... Well. I think there is a special place in hell for people like this.  Not only was she nasty to me, but she was nasty to the person in front of me.  While I silently wished for another agent's counter to open up while I waited on line, the slump in my shoulders must have put her over the edge because by the time I got up to her counter, I could see hate in her eyes.  Now the guy before me was going back to China after, what looked like, an extended stay in the USA. His luggage was over the weight limit, so he had to unpack some items and bring them in his carry on luggage.  Apparently this really pissed off Miss Flight Check in Lady because she was rolling her eyes and huffing and puffing.  I bet you $100 that guy did not have a luggage scale in his hotel room and therefore had NO IDEA that his luggage was over the weight limit.  Why Miss Flight Check In couldn't understand that, is beyond me.  Also I think the guy in front of me had a limited English vocabulary. So the lady was annoyed with that.  I can't understand why she would be because after all she works for the airline's INTERNATIONAL check in.  ::sigh::  When I got to the counter she was not a happy with the fact that the travel agency that booked my flight put it under my middle name hyphen last name and she was having fits trying to find my reservation....even thought I gave her a reservation number.  She acted like I was the idiot when I suggested that my Middle Name hyphen Last Name was actually me because I have both of those names on my Passport, my driver's licence and, oh yeah, the reservation number matched.  She gave me a lecture about Homeland Security and how I might not get to board the flight. I nodded and kept my mouth shut (That was hard).  I thanked her for all the inforation and walked to my gate.  Guess what?  Not only did the TSA not care about the last name snafu, but the gate agent, customs in Canada and everyone else that looked at my boarding pass, didn't care either.  Success.  I think Miss Flight check In Lady was having a bad day.  I hope it got better for her, or at least she got to go home and rest.  As for me. I was happy to have such nice people for the rest of my trip to interact with.  It almost makes me want to travel again!
On To The Poll!

1.  Blush Of The Day? - Chanel Joues Contraste in Rose Ecrin.  The post I did for this blush convinced Kelly from Gouldylocks to actually buy this blush.  I'm quite proud I got a semi frugal makeup shopper to cave on some Chanel!

2.  Last place you traveled to on an airplane? - Montreal, Quebec Canada.  I really wish I had more time in the city to meet with some friends.

3.  With all the holiday collections out and the release of the holiday gift sets, are you tempted to purchase something for yourself? - I would be if I was not swimming in makeup right now.  I need to curtail my makeup shopping until after the new year!

4.  If money was no object where would you travel to? - Japan and then Bora Bora...but mostly Japan. Oh how I would love to go there some day.

5.  Waiting on anything (Beauty Related) in the mail? - Oh just a replacement for that Rouge Bunny Rouge blush I finished, the BECCA eye palette and maybe some Lise Watier cosmetics that I purchased.

  1. I've got one for you - I had flown to Montreal with my then boyfriend for New Years. He and I went up to the only customs agent working whom I unfortunately interrupted while she was reading a Danielle Steele book (book is loosely used in this instance) in French (I didn't know they translated that crap). She looks at the passports and snaps indignantly at me, I kid you not, "Why don't you live together?!" Fortunately I caught myself before saying something that would have put me in a Canadian holding cell (or broken up the relationship on the spot). lol oh well.

I am makeupless today. My skin is having a hard time now with being wrapped in scarves. I have to cover my face in the cold & the scarves break me out, maybe b/c I occasionally perfume them. I have to work that out, for now just some BB cream to help tone down the red & irritation and patience.

    3. Have to do some shopping for my coworkers so I think I'll use my VIB & buy some goodies for me too. Already about some of the Guerlain collection which is lovely!

    4. I would go straight to the Greek islands for awhile then maybe tour southern Spain and maybe some Italian islands too!

    5. nope all my beauty items are here at the moment.

  2. Elvira, I think it's refreshing that you didn't BASH that rude woman and just came to the conclusion she was probably having a bad day. I would have flipped out, but that's probably the Greek in me!

Blush: I have no idea. Whatever JC blush I blindly pick up in the morning....

Last place traveled: coming home from university in Scotland

Holiday Collections: Rather than looking for a collection, I really want a dark red (almost black) lipstick. I'm having a hard time finding one!

Place I want to go to: American road trip from LA to San Francisco to Portland!

Wait around for Beauty items: I just bought the biography of Chanel No. 5 and can't wait for it to get here!!!!

  3. 1. Blush Of The Day? - Milani Baked Blush in Red Vino. Light light hand...I kind of just want to stare at it in the pan though.

    2. Last place you traveled to on an airplane? - LA IMATS...& that is exactly where I will be traveling next! Oh to be home in Orange County again!

    3. With all the holiday collections out and the release of the holiday gift sets, are you tempted to purchase something for yourself? - I just bought the TARTE The Big Thrill Set. The packaging is a bit ridiculous but it is totally worth it since I was going to buy blushes/glosses anyway. Money saved.

    4. If money was no object where would you travel to? - Easily Greece (if they won't spit on us) or Australia. I wish I could have traveled when I was single. Seriously. How I ended up with a Texan with no accent is beyond me.

    5. Waiting on anything (Beauty Related) in the mail? - Always! But most of it is for the blog...some new products from Styli Style are coming...I used them so long ago! Excited to see them & Jane back again!

  4. Blush : the Balm in Down Boy- matte blue-based pink

Last trip : by road was Hamilton NY to see my folks; by plane, gosh....I think probably Indianapolis for a wedding last year?

Place I want to go : top three- London?England, Alaska, and Italy

Not waiting for any beauty items right now.

  7. Air travel: Where you pay ridiculous amount of money to get shit from workers. -_-

I live between countries so I know this particularly well. In my experience, however, American airport staff are the worst. It's one thing to treat me horribly because I hold an Indonesian passport, but for all I know, they're nasty to EVERYONE. Would it hurt the TSA to raise their hiring standards, really? An international port really isn't the best place for a racist, discriminatory, or overall unpleasant person to work at.

    1. Blush Of The Day? - Nothing, it's another no make-up day for me.

    2. Last place you traveled to on an airplane? - Singapore. The standard of service I got was actually among the highest I've experienced so far, although they do charge you a significant service fee with your ticket.

    3. With all the holiday collections out and the release of the holiday gift sets, are you tempted to purchase something for yourself? - I'm aiming for one more palette and be done with it for the year.

    4. If money was no object where would you travel to? - Japan -- Money is less of a problem than getting a visa, though. I swear tourist visa requirement is almost racist. e.g., Americans can travel to Japan without applying for one, but Indonesians have to go through an expensive and lengthy visa interview for a three-day holiday there. At least Indonesia eliminated the "exit permit" ("tax" you have to pay if you want to travel overseas) a couple years back. =_=

    5. Waiting on anything (Beauty Related) in the mail? - Yes, a couple sunscreens from Neutrogena. I need to stock up!

3)Holiday goodies. hhmm.. tempted, but so far only caved for the Lorac Sweet Temptations from Ulta.

    4) Travel.. If I had to pick one, Italy, if I could pick many, the whole world!

    5) have my Lorac set roaming around my town on the brown truck! Hurry and come home!

  10. 1. Blush Of The Day? - a pretty Boots Botanics blush I picked up forever ago from Target and then promptly forgot about. I discovered it last week and have been wearing it almost every day since! It's a really nice, soft (in texture and color) blush that's a gorgeous light beige-pink.
    2. Last place you traveled to on an airplane? - Florida I think, but that was YEARS ago :/ I really want to start traveling!
    3. With all the holiday collections out and the release of the holiday gift sets, are you tempted to purchase something for yourself? - Oh heck yeah I am! I am waiting for that Best of Becca set to come back in-stock at Sephora. Also eyeing an eyeliner set from MUFE

    4. If money was no object where would you travel to? - Italy, Iceland, and Bora Bora is a good one!

  11. I agree, air travel can be quite stressful, however as much as I travel I've been extremely lucky the past 2 years.

    1. Blush of the day: Chanel Joues Contraste Stardust. I like the subtle sparkles

    2. Last flight was to Nagoya, Japan for work. No, I hate to disappoint but there was no time for shopping :(

    3. I purchased the Tarte lip and blush holiday set today during the VIB

    4. If money was no object I would like to travel to Vietnam for a month. I've also never been to Ireland.

  12. 1. I was bare faced yesterday since I had an MRI early in the morn.

    2. The last flight was to Pittsburgh, PA to visit family.

    3. I purchased the Tarte smolderEyes xmas set.

    4. If money were no object I would do nothing but travel. However, I would need a HUGE xanax prescription. I have a tiny (okay, large) fear of flying. I practically crush my husband's hand. My son loves it though. He's flown more in his 20 years than I have in my 40.

    5. Yes! I'm waiting on about five packages. My mailman thinks I'm stalking him. Or, he thinks I have a disability since I always have my head pressed against the door's window when he arrives.

    5. Waiting on anything (Beauty Related) in the mail? - Just received a package from ELF this morning, woohoo :-)

  14. 1. Blush Of The Day? - Bobbi Brown pot rouge in pale pink. I love this in the winter.

    2. Last place you traveled to on an airplane? - Cancun Mexico for a friends wedding. The resort was fabulous but it was hotter & muggier than H$LL!! We had a fabulous time even though my hair & makeup were crap the entire time. LOL!

    3. With all the holiday collections out and the release of the holiday gift sets, are you tempted to purchase something for yourself? - I seriously need to go on a no-buy. I have way too much. It's just. so. hard. I did get sucked into Sephora's VIB sale & bought 3 Becca beach tints (my first!) which I'm super excited to try. And I also got some other things... :)

    4. If money was no object where would you travel to? - I actually lived in Japan for a year and a half in my early twenties. Unfortunately I wasn't into makeup then & I could KICK myself around 50 blocks! But it was really a fabulous experience even though it was hecka expensive. I'd probably travel to Denmark/Holland because I'd like to get in touch with my roots. Or Paris. :)

    5. Waiting on anything (Beauty Related) in the mail? - Yes, my Sephora VIB order.

  15. 1. None.

    2. Chicago, many years ago. The TSA was fine, wonderful, in fact, but the ATA flight attendants were horrific.

    3. Well, a week ago, I would have said New York, but then Sandy paid a visit. Now, I would have to say Orlando, and take in all the tourist sites.

    4. I recently picked up the tarte Carried Away set, and UD Vice palette.

    5. No; I hate shopping online, and only do it if I really have to.

Oh I have to ask, how long does it take you to finish a blush? I really want to know this! Also, what is the oldest blush in your collection that you still use? (Might help with makeup shopping.) Thanks.

    Leila

  18. Consider that it's possible (and also likely) that Ms Rude Flight Check-In could've been insulted and/or threatened in the past by someone who was denied boarding because of a misprint in their name and warning someone in advance seems like a way to avoid it happening again. Also consider that she may be required to tell you about it in an attempt to avoid future misprints.

If the names don't match exactly, you can be denied boarding. I've had it happen. It sucks.

I agree that she was rude and if you work customer service there's no excuse for that but since I work customer service, I always get a little pissed-off when someone doesn't like something I told them because someone else bent the rules in their favor or when I'm instructed to tell them about a policy even though I know it will probably be waived.

  19. 1. Blush Of The Day? - Mystique Creme Blush by Le Metier de Beaute - It's a soft pink with gold flecks - gorgeous as a finishing touch on the apples & cheek bones!

    2. Last place you traveled to on an airplane? NYC - luckily we left a day before Hurricane Sandy hit!

    3. With all the holiday collections out and the release of the holiday gift sets, are you tempted to purchase something for yourself? I'm such a color whore - how could I resist!? YES! I just don't know which ones yet.

    4. If money was no object where would you travel to? Italy & Paris & Japan

    5. Waiting on anything (Beauty Related) in the mail? I wish.
