Happy Thanksgiving

I normally do a Thursday Poll, but since it's Thanksgiving in the US, I decided to list a few things I am thankful for. Of course aside from being thankful for Mr. Sith and Darthypie, my job and home, I am thankful for so many other things.

I'm thankful for you!  That's right, you reading this post, right now.  Without readers I would be basically writing some sort of psychotic cosmetic diary. You reading, commenting, pinning, stumbling, following and tweeting this blog makes me incredibly thankful.  I ♥ You! Plus I have met some really incredible people though this blog. Some in person and some only via the comments section. In either case each friendship is dear to me.

I am thankful for taupe eyeshadow.  Without which I would be wearing beige eyeshadow on a most regular basis. I am thankful that the color definition of taupe is so fluid and varied. I am thankful for taupe looking good on my skin and being a super easy choice for an eyeshadow at 5:30 AM.

I am thankful for a thick skin. Not literally, mind you, but to put up with trolls posting my pictures on forums making fun of my face, to people calling me a sell-out or liar because I post articles with affiliate links and press samples. I am glad I am tough enough to know that as long as I know I am being true, that's all that matters.  While it is nice to get "free stuff", it's never free. I have worked long and hard to get the attention of certain companies and I continue to foster relationships with new companies.  However, I do not place my relationship with those companies above my relationship with you, my readers.  That means if a company sends me an item that I think is awful, I'm still going to tell you it's awful no matter what. If that pisses the company off, then so be it. But I will never sugarcoat a product just because it was sent to me for review.  My integrity is everything. I will not compromise it just to get free lipstick.

I am thankful for blush. Not just Chanel JC blush, but pretty much any blush that I can get my hands on.  I love blush. It takes me from sallow and ashen and pale, to slightly less corpse looking and barely alive.  Without it I would be lost.

I am thankful for differing opinions. Yes. That's right. there are some people in this world that do not agree with me.  From how a specific product preforms, to politics, we are all not going to agree 100% of the time.  I am thankful for that because the world would be so boring if everyone thought the same way.  I adore thoughtful and respectful debate. I'm happy to have it here or on my facebook page or in person.  Most of what I say here is what I would say to someone's face. So if it sounds like I'm being crass, or a bitch, or hilarious, you can rest assured that's really my voice and the way I think.  Am I right 100% of the time?  No.  Do I change my mind on certain subjects? Yes. Can I be presented with facts that may disprove or contradict my beliefs without freaking out. Yes! Opinions are like...well you know the saying. Everyone has one and a lot of them stink.  I'm not going to claim my opinions all smell like roses, I might think it, but I won't force anyone to agree with me.

I am thankful for black liquid eyeliner.  Without it I would have mascara smudges on my eyelids all the time.  The black liner hides those smudges, because even after almost 30 years of wearing mascara, I still cannot apply it without some of it transferring to my eyelid.

I am thankful for my sense of humor and your sense of humor.  Without my sense of humor I think I would cry a lot more often. I love to laugh and make people laugh. My idea of funny might not be everyone's cup of tea, but for those that do "get me" I will most likely "get" them too and THAT is awesome.

I am thankful for red hair dye. I am a natural redhead in a dishwater blonde's body. Not only does red hair dye look natural on me, I feel it matches my personality. Without it I would have a severe hair identity crisis.

I am thankful I do not get offended at any little transgression, un-politically correct statement or picture, tasteless joke or anything else that people flip their lids over. I am not politically correct. I laugh at inappropriate things. I might say things that are not considered PC, but I don't do it out of malice, spite or ignorance. I do it because...well I don't know why I do it, but I'm trying to be better about not using UN-PC terms and I am trying to be more sensitive as to how others may view things I say and do from their cultural/religious/ethnic perspective. For example. I'm pretty sure the pin up picture at the top of this post not only offends women but also Native Americans, and probably descendants of the Mayflower. Please forgive me.

I'm sure there is more that I am thankful for, but I just can't think anymore. I have a turkey to cook, stuffing to make, yams to marshmallow...wait. whatever. I gotta go. But if YOU could comment with some things that YOU are thankful for, I sure would love to read them.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Aquaphor Healing Ointment Giveaway

When the makers of Aquaphor contacted me and asked if I would be interested in holding a giveaway for an Aquaphor prize pack and a $50 Visa Gift Card I jumped at the chance.  I have been using Aquaphor for decades.  It all started when my friend Sara used to include these tiny tubes of Aquaphor in her makeup swap packages. (Yeah, we swapped makeup back & forth from time to time...just eyeshadow and nail polish).  I had a tiny tube of Aquaphor in each coat pocket and purse and on my bedside table.  I used it for all sorts of things, I got Mr. Sith addicted to it and when Darthypie was born we used it as a barrier cream for his diapers, especially when he had diaper rash.  We went through a 14 oz tub of this healing ointment in less than a year once Darthypie was born!  But now that the little man is out of diapers, I still have a lot of uses for this great stuff.

You see, unlike plain Petroleum Jelly, Aquaphor Healing Ointment has glycerin, bisabolo (chamomile essence) and provitamin B5 added in to help moisturize, sooth and enhance healing of dry or irritated skin.  It's fragrance free and preservative free so it's ideal for sensitive skin (even Darthypie's little bum!).

So here are some ways I use Aquaphor:
  • To soothe chapped lips.
  • To deeply moisturize dry heels/feet. I slather this stuff on and put on cotton socks overnight.
  • To moisturize my crime scene dry cuticles.
  • To moisturize my hands after hand washing. (I wash my hands a lot in my "real job" because I'm always shaking hands with strangers)
  • On my red and sore nose during the allergy and cold seasons.
  • On my hand when I gave myself a nasty burn in the kitchen.
  • To remove stubborn makeup on dry sensitive skin. I used this to remove the makeup from Darthypie's zombie costume. It worked like a charm and his sensitive skin was better for it!
  • My friend Sarah uses it as as a nighttime eye cream and to condition her eyelashes.

There are way more uses for Aquaphor and you can check them out here on

So let's get to the good stuff!  Aquaphor is offering a $50 Visa Gift Card and a Aquaphor product package for one lucky reader!  Just enter using the rafflecopter widget below.  The giveaway is only open to US Residents who are 18 years of age or older.  The giveaway starts on November 27, 2013 and ends on December 11, 2013.  The prize will be furnished and shipped by Aquaphor.  The only required entry is to leave a comment, but you will have opportunities for multiple chances to enter by liking the Aquaphor Facebook Page, My Facebook Page, Twitter and others, however those are all optional and are not required to be eligible for the giveaway.  For more information on the contest rules please click HERE.  Good Luck to everyone!

Lise Watier Jardin de Givre Illuminating Powder -Review, Pictures, Swatches

The Lise Watier Jardin de Givre Illuminating Powder is part of the Winter 2013 collection. Jardin de Givre translates literally into Garden of Frost, and while this collection could have gone into the pastel and white hues of the "frost" theme, it instead took cues from the finish of frost rather than the color.  The Lise Watier Jardin de Givre Illuminating Powder is no exception to this wondrous frosty finish of winter.

Now I know what you are thinking. I hate a frosty look on my cheeks. it makes me look oily, fake, greasy, too frosty, etc. I have heard it all. You can quit your griping because the Lise Watier Jardin de Givre Illuminating Powder is frosty but SUBTLE and sophisticated.

Because the base product is a shimmery nude beige you avoid the pitfalls of the over-hyped and over frosted finish that a lot of makeup had in the early 2000's. In addition, what I thought was over-spray (the "eyes" of the peacock feathers) on the product is actually ingrained into the product. The lighter champagne color provides just a soupçon of shimmer, allowing the powder to give off a three-dimensional glow upon your cheeks.

Overall the powder is not too powdery (yes, a powder can be too powdery), and not too hard. It's not too frosty and not too matte. It's the perfect compromise for a illuminating powder.  Key word = ILLUMINATING! An illuminating powder is not a highlighter. That means the Lise Watier Jardin de Givre Illuminating Powder can be used all over your face or décolleté to give a soft effect glow.

Do you NEED this? If you wanted to get an illuminating powder that does not make you look like a disco ball or make you look like you got into a fight (and lost) with Tinkerbell, then this is the powder for you.  I'm fairly pale (read: white as a sheet) so this powder didn't show up in a swatch very well, but that's how it is supposed to be, right?  I imagine those with much darker skin coloring would find this more pronounced and frosty on them, but for the majority of people in the middle with medium golden to tan complexions, will find this just the perfect finishing powder for their overall look.

The Lise Watier Jardin de Givre Illuminating Powder retails for $36 USD and can be purchased on (don't forget, also takes paypal!)

What say you?  Are you "warming up" to the Garden of Frost?  See what I did there?

Makeup Wars - Holiday Wish List

My Holiday Wish list has me covered from head to toe..sort of.  OK. It has a lot of beauty products on it, but I managed to find one NON beauty product to add to the list.  So wanna see what I want?  Note. this is a post for my relatives.  If you are not a relative, you will probably find this list rather boring.  But since I normally never get what I ask for from relatives, I might as well just be upfront about it and have it on record that I asked for cashmere gloves and makeup rather than the Member's Only Jacket or heinous pie server I am likely to get. So here we go!

Under Tools. I have:
SEPHORA COLLECTION Luxe Anti-Bacterial Brush Set. It retails for $60 USD and I kinda need ant bacterial stuff because I don't clean my brushes as often as I should. What I really should get is some more Dasio Detergent. Why have I not written about this yet? It';s the most amazing brush cleanser ever invented. It removed heavy foundation from brushes like buttah! (The link is not my auction but from a seller I have purchased from in the past with success)

Sephora Favorites Lash Stash. 10 trial size mascaras and a set of false lashes for $45 USD? Yes Please. I', a trial size mascara addict. I'm fickle with mascara and like to change it up all the time. This "Lash Stash" is perfect for me.  Of course I should just get the Josie Maran GoGo Instant Volume Argan Mascara since I always end up buying that when I do purchase a full size mascara

I just discroverd Elie Saab Le Parfum Eau de Parfum. It's the perfect Springtime scent. It's sparkling and light and smells like happiness. Of course $94 isn't such a happy amount, but I'm worth it, right?  I'll probably end up getting another bottle of Soap & Glory Original Pink EdP because it's what I reach fro when I'm in a rush and can't decide with fragrance to wear.

For Lips
Fresh Sugar Treasures. Multiple Fresh Sugar Lip Balm's and my Fresh Sugar Lip Balm addiction make this a perfect gift for me. At $50 it's a seatl consiceringhow much these little suckers cost per tube.  Granted I will use just about any lip balm I can buy. Just the other day I ordered A lip balm called "Chicken Poop" for $ you see I'm not that picky!

For the Body
Nothing will stop me from loving Kiehl's Creme de corps.  And since Nordstrom offers a JUMBO Creme de Corps for only $75 that should last me the rest of my natural born life. Of course I still have a big bottle of Eucerin Daily Replenishing Lotion that I need to finish off. That stuff rocks my socks, but don't tell the Jumbo bottle of CdC. I don't want it to get jealous

Of course I can't forget Nails
The Formula X For Sephora The Twenty-Two set retails for $55 and I just NEED it. I need it like a fish needs a bicycle, but I still "need" it.  There is no low cost alternative. I refuse to accept any substitute!

I do have ONE Non Makeup item on my list.
GLOVES! I lose gloces all the time. I should really get a dozen pairs for a dollar at the dollar store, but these gloves from Nordstrom ate "Touchtech Cashmere Gloves" That means that no only are the luxoriously soft, they also allow me to use my iPhone & iPad in the freezing cold!  Why would I want any other glove.  BTW The Cobalt Blue called Blue Periwinkle is the color I want. Hint. Hint!  They are $38, but hey, I'm not payin' for them!

So check out these other great blogs to see what is on their wish list.  And while you are at it, why not tell me (in the comments section) a few things on your wish list. I want to be inspired, and add more "stuff" to my list!

Thursday Poll

For the first time in a long time, I have nothing to write about for this week's Thursday Poll.  Sure I could rant and rave about the injustice of making people work on Thanksgiving Day so some gluttonous and greedy shoppers can get their $5,200 TV for only $300. I could rant about how WalMart has taken up a canned food collection for its EMPLOYEES because the giant company doesn't pay their associates a living wage, and keeps some at part-time so they don't have to provide benefits.  I could rant about the hundreds of people that will be trampled and injured on Black Friday all so they can be THE FIRST to get whatever Barbie, Play Station or Iron Man action figure.  I could rant about the nimrods in Ohio that started camping out in front of a store a week and a half before the Thanksgiving Day sale.  These people and dare I say, most of America have forgotten what the purpose of this holiday is?  It's not a holiday to celebrate the enslavement of an entire race of people after we invaded their country, killed them with foreign diseases and through battle, then treated them as second class citizens while we stole their land and destroyed their culture.  No That's Columbus Day.  Thanksgiving is a day to be Thankful for any and all the good things in your life.  You can be thankful for Family or the fact that you live hundreds of miles from your family. You can be thankful for the great bounty of food on your table or that you have anything to eat at all. There are still starving people in this country, don't forget.  No matter how awful things can be, if you are reading this on the interwebz, your life isn't that bad. You can still be thankful for something, right? Maybe not. It just bums me out that it seems like more people care about shopping and buying than they do anything else. This society of consumerism really bothers me. Why must we always be buying?  It's pretty hypocritical of me I guess to say that, since I write a beauty blog and encourage you to BUY things too. But one thing I won't do is MAKE you read the Thursday Poll on Thanksgiving.  That's right. Even if you live in Europe, China or India, there will be no consumerist post on this blog next Thursday.  You might not care because you don't celebrate Thanksgiving. But I care. If we all could convince just ONE friend to NOT go to the stores on Thanksgiving, think of all the people that will stay home and not be part of the consumerist nightmare that forces sales associates to abandon their family on the one holiday that celebrates the family.  Maybe if more and more people stay home on Thanksgiving we might actually get our holiday back as stores realize that being open on this Holiday isn't profitable.  Maybe.  It's nice to dream. Huh. Well I guess I DID have something to write about today.
On To The Poll!

1.  Lip Of The Day? - UD Lipstick in Rapture. I need to post pictures of this little guy. It's quite the perfect plum mauve!

2.  Do you celebrate Thanksgiving? If not, do you have any sort of celebration for giving thanks? - I celebrate Thanksgiving, but I don't always cook the whole Turkey and fixin's. Sometimes it nice just to have a civilized meal not in front of the TV where we each can just talk.

3.  If you could change one thing about your skin, what would you change? - I would change my skin's irritating ability to break out anytime for any reason. To be acne free would be a joy for me. I could put up with the oily face if I didn't have acne to cover.

4.  What is your favorite food from the Thanksgiving table? If you don't celebrate, do you have a favorite food from any Holiday related meal? - I love stuffing and gravy. I don't mean to brag, but I make THE BEST stuffing on this planet. Just so you know.

5.  What are your favorite perfumes to wear in the Fall/Winter? - I like fragrances with more of a musk and spice base. Right now I'm wearing Plum HipNote which is a Cyphre (Fruit and White flowers and Patchouli)

Lise Watier Palette Jardin de Givre Eyeshadows and Eyeliner - Review, Pictures, Swatches

Lise Watier has a very pretty collection for Winter 2013.  From the design of the packaging to the thoughtfulness of the color choices, this collection has some fairly good choices.  While not all of them are gems, as you will read in an upcoming review, there are some stand outs, the Palette Jardin de Givre Eyeshadows and Eyeliner being one of those stand outs!

The Palette Jardin de Givre Eyeshadows and Eyeliner provides the opportunity for many different looks with seven eyeshadow shades in different finishes and a black creme eyeliner. The palette can also please those with cool or warm undertones as there is always a combination to make the shades work together to flatter your complexion. The shadows are fairly smooth and easy to blend.  The green and blue shadows applied fairly sheer when using a brush, but darker when using a sponge tip applicator.

The shadows do not have names, so allow ME to name them!

The first shadow on the top row on the left side is a white glitter CREME shadow.  That's right. It freaked me out when I ran my applicator over it. I realized quickly that this is a glitter shadow that can be used all over the eye to give a sparkly look to the shadows you used, or it can be used in the corner of the eyes for a special brightness and glow or as a highlight.    Let's call this one: OMG Snow! (OMG = Oh My Goodness)

The next shadow is a neutral gold with micro glitter. I love gold shadows but they don't always work for me. This one had a nice sheer sheen to it and the pigmentation was light enough to use as a highlight or wash of color.  Not everybody can wear gold shadow, so let's call this one YRMV Gold. (YRMV = Your Results May Vary)

Taupe!  That's the next shadow in this palette. It's sparkly but brilliantly pigmented. It's got enough gray in it for taupe lovers to drool and non taupe lovers to make it work.  It does not lean purple at all. It's so pretty. If I could only wear one taupe for the winter I would totally be happy with this one.  Let's call this taupe BAMF Taupe. (BAMF = Bad A** Mother F***er)

The last shadow in the top row is a very pretty brown. It's a red leaning brown, It's fairly pigmented and makes a great crease color or liner color, if you are so inclined. I love the shimmery aspect to this shadow and it's rare to find a brown that does not clash with certain grey based taupes. Maybe I spend too much time thinking about stuff like that but once you find a brown that goes well with a beloved taupe it's a great thing. I think this one should be called KWIM Brown. (KWIM = Know What I Mean)

On to the bottom row. on the far left we have a very very light frosty peach color.  The color is so light it got lost on my arm. While it makes a good base and decent highlight I found it a bit too sheer/invisible on my fair skin.  Perhaps people with a darker skin tone than my corpse white might benefit from it better.  I'm not really sure why they included such a dull shade in an otherwise dazzling palette so I think I'll name this one IDK Peach. (IDK = I Don't Know)

The next shade is a stunning deep emerald green. It's metallic and has decent pigmentation with a sponge applicator, but when used with a brush it's a little sheer.  I like the green shade and it really makes people with brown eyes look amazing.  But the popular green shade is becoming a tad out of style and will soon be ushered away like the Pantone Tangerine Tango of summer 2012. That's why I have decided to name this CUL8R Green. (CUL8R = See You Later)

Now we come to my new favorite color. I am in love with cobalt blue.  While this shade is not exactly a cobalt blue, it is still close enough to be on trend and very chic! This has the same metallic finish and preforms the same was as CUL8R Green. That's why wearing it to work wasn't so shocking for my conservative cow-workers.  Because I love this color so much I have decided to name it DDG Blue. (DDG = Drop Dead Gorgeous)

Last but not least we have the black creme liner. It's smooth, well pigmented and flows easily with a slant tip brush (one is provided in the palette). Since I am unskilled at gel or cream eyeliner application, yet I can whip out  cat eye  with a liquid liner and brush in seconds I am at a loss as to why the skill of cream liner evades me. I am going to name this one PITA Black. (PITA = Pain In The A**)

The Lise Watier Palette Jardin de Givre Eyeshadows and Eyeliner retails for $45 USD and can be purchased directly from They also take paypal!
