Thursday Poll

This Sunday the US will hold the NFL Superbowl. I appreciate that a lot of my readers don't follow sports nor do they live in the US, but I happen to L O V E American Football. In fact I love American Football so much I just call it Football.  It can be a confusing sport to watch if you don't understand the rules and strategy. It ends up looking like a bunch of fat men in tights standing around on a field.  But if you have the luck to find someone that is willing to teach you the game, the rules, the nuances of the sport you too can enjoy it as much as I do.  You see, when I first met Mr. Sith I wasn't into Football at all. In fact, I would hold Superbowl parties and call them STUPID BOWL parties. The only rule at these parties was that you had to shut up during the commercials, but could talk as much as you like during the game.  Superbowl commercials have been known to be some of the best and most creative. Companies pay MILLIONS of dollars to air a 30 second spot during this big game.  My favorite commercial of all time was one from a company called EDS. It was the Cat Herding commercial.  I loved it. Still love it to this day.

I know commercials are things we zip by now that we DVR everything, but the Superbowl has commercials that are actually worth watching...for the most part.  There will be the classic Budweiser Clydesdale commercial or two, I'm sure some Pepsi commercials, and Coke. I don't like to know about too many of the commercials before the big game, because that just ruins the fun...Yes. I said it commercials during the Superbowl are fun!  OK. So if you hate football, at least you have the half-time show with Bruno Mars ... although, I'mma let me finish, but Prince had THE BEST half-time show of ALL TIME! OF ALL TIME!...whoa. I Kanye'd myself! He played forever.  It was AMAZING and it was in the FREAKIN' POURING RAIN!
On To The Poll!

1. Lip Of The Day? - L'Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick in 103 Blushing Harmony (review forthcoming)

2. Are you going to watch the Superbowl? - YES! Of course I realize many of you won't, but hey, that's cool! I do it for the great food!

3. Favorite Foundation of the moment? - I have been testing out a BB cream from Korea called BRTC Blemish Recover Balm. It loaded with Tea Tree Oil and keeps me from breaking out, has decent oil control and the color match is good. I just wish it came in more than 1 color because those with darker skin tones will find this too light for them.

4. Any sports you are looking forward to watching during the Winter Olympics? - I love the Ski Jump and skiing in general, any event. I also love watching ice hockey.

5. Any makeup look you wish you could rock, but feel like you can't? - I wish I could rock a vampy lip. Real deep dark purple-y red. But i feel like it would look odd and out of place in the suburbia in which I live. Women here hardly wear any makeup. It makes me sad.

Radiant Orchid NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Kauai from the Spring 2014 High Seize Collection - Review, Pictures Swatches

NARS Spring 2014 offering is colorful and eclectic. The eyeshadow duo in Kauai is especially stunning as it combines a cool toned gold metallic shadow with an almost duo toned blue-purple or "Blurple" satin finish shadow. NARS describes the duo as Gold Lame and Iridescent Smokey Orchid. Uh. What's that? Did someone say ORCHID? As in Radiant Orchid, the Pantone Color of the year for 2014? Well, it's a stretch, but why not lump it in with all the other purple-y shades under Pantone's Radiant Orchid umbrella. NARS Kauai Eyeshadow Duo is, in a word...Oh you know me. Hyperbole is my friend. I can't describe something so pretty in just one word!

Let me tell you a little bit about the shadow. It's soft and well pigmented. The color is long lasting and does not crease or fade (when worn over a primer). The look is dramatic and sultry but could be applied with a lighter hand for a more office appropriate look.

Now let me tell you a little about the island of Kauai. Since this NARS eyeshadow Duo is named after the island of Kauai, I thought it would be nice to show you that the weather in Kauai today is a balmy 70 degrees. You can click here to see the weather every day on Kauai. It looks to be a perfect week with highs in the high 70's. Oh how I wish I was there. Kawai is known as the Garden Island and is the 4th largest island in Hawaii. I have never been to Hawaii. I really want to go, but I fear if I do go, I might never leave.

Blue skies, sunshine, island breezes, 50 miles of beaches, cascading waterfalls, rainforests, why would anyone leave? It's kind of like why would anyone NOT like the Kauai Eyeshadow Duo form NARS? It's a universally flattering gold shadow that does not look garish or tacky (That's an achievement in and of itself) with a sweet, deep purple shadow with hints of blue and red to make it as neutral as possible, and it has a smooth application, as smooth as the sand on the beaches and the breeze on your sun kissed skin. What's not to think this paradise of an eyeshadow couldn't work for you.

Sure the NARS Kauai Eyeshadow Duo doesn't smell like the wild blooming Plumeria (AKA Frangipani) flowers, but it evokes the feeling of delicate petals of wild orchids found in the rainforests of the island....or at least that's what I would like to believe.

Do you NEED this? Does Hawaii have tropical weather? Does the island of Kauai have the most beautiful flowers? Does the North Shore, Kauai have lush taro fields? YES! YES! YES! and YES! OK. Maybe gold shadow isn't for everyone, but it's subtle enough that even if you are a first time gold shadow user, you could totally make this work for you. There are multiple ways to wear this combination. I just show you one, but experimentation is the spice of makeup life, is it not?

The NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Kauai retails for $34 USD and can be purchased from, (eventually) and

OK. Now who is going to pay for a trip to Hawaii for me? I'd be happy to go if someone picks up the bill!

Radiant Orchid Illamasqua Jo'mina Nail Varnish - Review, Pictures, Swatches

I did an extensive internet search (looked at the 1st page of google search results) for the story behind the name of the Illamasqua Nail Varnish, "Jo'mina" and came up empty handed. What is the story behind this "electric lilac" color?

After the first page of results I lost interest in finding the answer and my mind wandered. Jo'mina...Yo Mina...Yo Mamma....Yo Mamma jokes.  Some of the best off the cuff insults are Yo Mamma jokes.  And before you get all upset, yes. I understand that misogynist root of the jokes. That they are told as a way to subjugate and humiliate women. But if you can't laugh at yourself, you can't laugh at all.  If Yo Mamma jokes offend you, scroll to the bottom and read the info on the nail polish and where to buy it.

So obviously, since I already had the google page open I googled "yo mamma jokes". There are entire websites dedicated to this genre of comedy. I'm astounded.  There were so many jokes to choose from, I only chose a select few.  So here it goes:

Yo momma so fat, when she turns around, people give her a welcome back party!
Yo momma so fat shes on both sides of the family.
Yo mamma so ugly she went into a haunted house and came out with an application
Yo momma so ugly even Rice Krispies won't talk to her
Yo momma so stupid that she tried to put M&M's in alphabetical order
Yo momma so old, her social security number is 1
Yo momma so old that when she was in school, there was no history class
Yo momma so old her birth certificate is in Roman numerals
Yo momma so short she gotta slam-dunk her bus fare
Yo mama's so short, she broke her leg jumping off the toilet
Yo mama's so big, her belly button's got an echo
Yo mama's so big, when she goes in the water at the beach she changes the tide
Yo mama's so big, when she stands up the sun goes out
Yo mama's so skinny, when she wore her yellow dress, she looked like a #2 pencil
Yo mama's so skinny, she only has one stripe on her pajamas
Yo mama's teeth are so crooked, when she smiles her mouth looks like its throwin' up gang signs

Oh boy. The crooked teeth is awesome.  Slam dunking bus fare? HA!  OK. Let's all admit that Yo Mamma jokes are not the best of comedy. But I suggest you keep a few of these gems in your repertoire for just such an occasion where a yo mamma joke will make you the funniest person at the party. Admittedly I'm not sure what kind of party that would be, but whatever, It's always a good idea to have a few one liners in your back pocket.

The Illamasqua Nail Varnish in Jo'mina is a creamy electric lilac, with a slight blue undertone. Purples photograph strangely but this one looks as true to life as I could get it.  The polish applied with relative ease and was opaque after 2 coats. The formula was fluid and not too thin or thick. The end result was an extremely strong and long lasting polish.  (The dry time was average) I wore this color for 5 days with minimal tip wear and no chips. That's freakin awesome.  It looks even better with a little silver glitter on the tips if you do get a little tip wear to cover it up.

Is this the Pantone Radiant Orchid color that is being raved about?  Well kind of. I mean it's orchid-esque. It's purple. Sephora says it is! So if Sephora says so, then I'm not going to argue.  Plus, I already listed it in my Pantone Color Of The Year post so it HAS TO be now.

Illamasqua Nail Varnish in Jo'mina retails for $17 USD and is worth every penny.  It is strong, long lasting, wears like iron and is one of the prettiest purples I own. I am obsessed with purple nails, so yes. YOU NEED this.  If you don't fancy purple there are 58 other colors from Illamasqua to choose from. I purchased this from Sephora.

What say you?  Is this the purple of your dreams?  Got any good Yo Mamma jokes?

Radiant Orchid Lips with Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick in Swinger - Review, Pictures, Swatches

Radiant Orchid is the Color Of The Year, according to Pantone and pretty much everyone else. As it is explained to me, Radiant Orchid is supposed to be a purple-y fuchsia-y hybrid. Well, I found a lipstick that's the embodiment of the Radiant Orchid trend this Spring. (Even thought it's still winter and we are going to be SO OVER Radiant Orchid by the time April rolls around.) The lipstick I will grow tired of by Spring is called Swinger and it's made by Buxom. This is the same lipstick that Ill will lose in the bottom of a bag or a coat pocket and then months later, I will "re-discover" it, and I will wear it like it's brand new and fall back in love with it. (That's what I do with most lipsticks)

Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick is an opaque, full-coverage lipstick that, according to Buxom, has a "dual-phase plumping effect". When wearing the lipstick I did not experience this plumping effect, but my lips are fairly plump to begin with. According to Buxom, they use "Encapsulated hyaluronic spheres" Well those "spheres" do make my lips feel soft and hydrated while wearing the lipstick. So I guess it's working.

The lipstick contains shea butter, coconut oil, chamomile flower wax (WTF is that?), and vitamins C and E. That's pretty awesome as far as softening lips goes. So if you are one of those people who has lips that dry up at the slightest mention of cold weather, or hot sun or lack of lip balm, you will like this lipstick. I happen to be one of those people. TRUST me, lack of lip balm is a serious issue.

The color is a pretty purple-y pink that leans very cool. I have a neutral skin coloring, and even I found this to be a bit too cool toned for my liking. You have to have very specific coloring and very specific fashion flair to wear this color. I don't even know if I can pull it off. But to be honest, IDGAF. I like the color and I'm going to wear it. I don't look like a corpse or an idiot, so it must work somewhat for me....right?

Do you NEED this? Well, YES and no. YES, you need this FORMULA. It's quite moisturizing and extremely pigmented. The color will stain the lips, but even after the lipstick wears off it does not make your lips feel parched. So YES you need this for the formula, alone. Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick comes in 10 different colors so hopefully you will find one that you like. As for the "no" portion of the "Do you need it?" question. The color "Swinger" is unique and not for everyone. In fact, I think the color Radiant Orchid is one of the trickier colors to incorporate into makeup and the color "Swinger" is no exception.

You can find Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick exclusively through Sephora and It retails for $21 USD.

What say you? Is Radiant Orchid a color for your lips this season?

The Lipstick League – week of 1.20.14

Question of the Week: Do you color your hair? If so, do you do it yourself or do you get it professionally colored? If you do it yourself, what are some of your favorite brands?

Answer: I do color my hair. I color it at home and I go to the salon. I usually color at home using L'Oreal Feria color. This is the best box color in my opinion. I use 2 different reds to achieve the red color for my hair. I mix them together in a color mixing bowl and apply with a flat brush like they do in the salons.  This gets the color on evenly and makes sure I don't miss any spots. Thankfully my hair is long enough to warrant using 2 boxes of hair color.  Unfortunately, red hair dye is the hardest to maintain so I supplement my color by using color depositing shampoos and conditioners in between coloring.

The Beauty Spotlight - The Pink Sith Answers 20 Questions

The Beauty Spotlight Group has decided to ask each of its members to reveal a little something about themselves through a series of 20 questions. It's my turn, and while I'm not a fan of assignments or required writing, I am a fan of talking about myself!! I figured the ego boost outweighed the drudgery of HAVING TO do actual work. So here I am in all my glory. Naked pictures of me will be at the end of this post in the TRUE spirit of REVEALING ALL!!

1. Last book you read?
I hardly have time to read anymore but the last book I read was Ready Player One by Ernst Cline. It's set in the year 2044, and the world is an awful place, famine, war, etc. The books told through the eyes of a teenager called Wade Watts is what it's like to be poor and living in the virtual reality utopia known as the OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world's digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them. But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade's going to survive, he'll have to win—and confront the real world he's always been so desperate to escape. It's an awesome book, and it's being made into a movie, so I'm excited to see it on the big screen.

2) Last concert you went to?
So sad that the last concert I went to was BEFORE my son was born. I went to see A Perfect Circle, and it was a great show...or would have been a great show if I had not been crushed by the mob of people surging toward the stage. I was lifted off of my feet and unable to move. The only thing that saved me was my husband pushing people out of the way to get me out of the crowd. Since then I still love APC, but I don't like crowds at all.

3) Do you have a special talent?
I have MANY special talents. Some are stupid, some are cool. I can play the flute, I have an almost photographic memory of where crap is on my desk. I can recite movie lines from almost any movie I have seen. I am a dead shot with a 22 caliber rifle, I can flip my thumbs behind my hands, and I can sing The Flintstone cartoon theme song in German.

4) What makes you feel beautiful?
Red lipstick, pretty hair, and my son and husband.

5) Do you have a guilty pleasure?
Too Many! I used to love reality TV, but now it just pisses me off. My guilty pleasure is watching Cartoons with my son, especially Phinneas and Ferb. I could watch that show without him there!

6) What time do you wake up in the morning?
On work days, I wake up at 5:15 AM. On the weekends I wake up at 6:45-7:15 AM whenever Darthypie wakes me up.

7) When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a surgeon until I went to a hospital and realized sick people creep me out.

8) Are you a cat person or a dog person?
I am both. I only have cats right now, however.

9) What was your first real job?
Real Job? Like one where I had to get it on my own and made a living wage? Oh that hasn't happened yet. Sure I have a job, and I got it on my own, but a living wage? Nope. Not for MY lifestyle. OK. My first job was working at a costume jewelry store called Carimar. It sold all sorts of crappy jewelry. It sucked, and I realized then that retail was a thankless job.

10) If you were given a shopping spree at one store, what store would you like it to be?
I guess I'll make this makeup related. But honestly I would love a shopping spree at Home Depot or Lowes. I have so many home improvement projects on my list and no money in which to complete them. But as far as beauty related shopping spree, I would love a spree at Neiman Marcus. Then I could buy that $550 bottle of CREED perfume, all the Guerlain, Dior, Armani and Le Metier de Beaute I could handle and all the Natura Bisse, Kiehl's and La Prairie Skin care in the world!

11) What is your most favorite discontinued item?
It will always be my Shu Uemura ME Silver 945 eyeshadow. THE PERFECT TAUPE!

12) Finish this sentence: Don't start a beauty blog if….
You don't have time. Blogging take up most of my free time and some of my not free time. It takes hours to photograph, edit, research, write and network. If I didn't blog I would have time to solve the Riemann Hypothesis, or world peace, or somethin'.

13) What type of product is the most fun for you to test and review?
Lipstick! I love lipstick, and as much as I love taupe eyeshadow, but lipstick is easier to test and swatch and photograph.

14) How has your relationship to beauty products changed since you began blogging?
I now tend to be more critical of the beauty products I purchase and use. I look at it from as "is this worth the money" point of view. I try to be objective as possible, but sometimes that's not easy when it's a pretty blush or lip gloss!

15) What is your greatest joy about blogging?
All the awesome people I have virtually met from it. I have formed some great friendships through blogging that I don't think I ever could have without it. It also is a great joy to give someone advice on a beauty issue/product and have it make them very happy. I like to make people happy.

16) How much time do you spend blogging per week?
TOO MUCH! at least 2-3 hours a day.

17) If you could start your blog all over again, what would you differently?
I would have created my blog in Wordpress which is a much more dynamic blogging platform, I would have started blogging earlier, I would have picked a name that I didn't have to explain to anyone that has never seen the Star Wars movies.

18) Is there a category of products you like (or dislike) blogging about in particular?
I dislike blogging about vitamins or supplements. I'm not a nutritionist nor a scientist, and while I have blogged about a hair supplement in the past, I didn't feel like I was as informed as I could have been about how and why the product worked. Plus I don't feel all that comfortable recommending a product that you ingest. What if you have a bad reaction that I didn't have? I would feel really bad about that.

19) Do you consider your blog a hobby, or is it part of a larger career objective?
My blog is a hobby. I already have a career, and I have little interest in making this my full time job. The style in which I write can be very draining , and I just don't see how I could maintain that standard for more than 4 or 5 posts a week. It's nice that I have a hobby that is so rewarding and that I can share with so many people

20) What is the best piece of advice that you would give an aspiring beauty blogger?
Have your own voice. Don't be boring. Quality over quantity. I read too many blogs that read like instruction manuals. Sooooo dull and it all sounds the same. I also see blogs that publish a review 3 or more times a day, and while it might be nice to push out a lot of content, it's not that interesting if you never really say anything helpful or definitive or worthy. Beauty blogging is for the passionate about beauty. It is not a money maker and does not get you "free stuff" all that easily. If you want to make a ton-o-money blogging, start a mommy blog or food blog. Trust me. Beauty blogging is at the bottom of the money making opportunities. I also URGE people that blog about skin care to actually TEST the skin care for several weeks before writing about it. I have seen too many bloggers receive a product and review it within one to two weeks of receiving it. You really cannot trust reviews like that. You just don't have the time to see how your skin would really react. Last but not least, be honest. If a product really sucks because it doesn't live up to the marketing claims, then say so. Don't worry about "pissing off the brand" and not being able to work with them again. If your review is fair and accurate, a good brand will appreciate the feedback and won't blackball you. If they do, (which has happened to me) then you didn't need them anyway. Also, reading a blog where every review is sunshine and rainbows turns me off. I start to think that maybe they aren't 100% honest. Same thing goes for blogs that are always negative. Oh and the minute you stop having fun, stop blogging. Life is too short to pour so much energy into an activity that doesn't give you joy!

And now as promised my naked pictures!

I can't believe you scrolled down to the bottom of this post thinking you would actually see naked pictures of me!  The Beluga Whales in the photos above are a pretty close representation of me naked, just add red hair and taupe eyeshadow.
