Thursday Poll

I have writer's block. I have nothing to write about for this week's Thursday Poll. My mind is empty. I have nothing I care to complain about, joke about talk about write about. My allergy medication isn't working, I'm tired and depressed. I apologize.  So how about YOU ask me some questions and I'll answer them next week and you all can answer them too!  I get YOU to do my hard work, then I turn it around and make it look like I'm very clever and answer your questions. It's really a win/win situation if you ask me...and since My opinion is the one that matters (that actually is a joke. Your opinion of my blog matters)

So I'll get you started:
1.  Lip Of The Day? - Nothing. I'm not feeling like myself.

2.  Latest beauty "lemming"? - Red Burlesque Lipsticks.  20 count 'em TWENTY shades of RED lipstick!!!It's like this company is made for me...RED LIPSTICK and 20 different colors and finishes.  I. DIE!  Currently deciding if/what I should purchase.

3. Remember when e-mail was new and you couldn't wait to get a message, let alone answer one? How many unread e-mails do yo currently have in your inbox right now? - 29. Most of them are ads from Neiman Marcus and beautyhabit.com

4. MAC or PC? and Android or iPhone? - MAC!!! and iPhone.  Unfortunately for work it is PC and ::shudder:: Blackberry!

5.  What question would you like me to answer and ask next week? - ....

Paul & Joe Beaute Color Powder CS Spring 2014 in Amaryllis and Azalea - Review, Pictures, Swatches

Paul-&-Joe-Beaute-Amaryllis-Azalea-Review-on-pinksith

Blushaholics Anonymous (BA) is not a joke.  It's not funny to make a joke out of blush addiction. I know several women that have more blush than they could ever hope to use in 2 lifetimes.  I happen to be one of those women, and this is my story.

It all started so innocently. I was a pre-teen and I picked up a Cover Girl 3 pan blush with a blush color, a highlight and contour. Knowing nothing about application I slathered the stuff on my face and looked sunburned for most of my pre-teen years.  Then I really got into makeup, and as easy as it was to be into eyeshadow because of the color variation, I found myself in search of the PERFECT blush.  I know now that THE PERFECT blush does not exist, because as soon as you apply what I think is the perfect blush, the Blushaholic in me will immediately need a blush fix and what was once a perfect blush is now not quite perfect and the search must go on.

Paul-&-Joe-Beaute-Amaryllis-Azalea-Review-on-pinksith

I knew I had a problem when I needed an entire drawer of my Helmer storage bin from Ikea to hold my blushes and highlighters.  As I saw the rows of Chanel Blush line up I realized that at least I had my blush addiction under control because I swore fealty to Chanel. Since Chanel doesn't release that many powder blushes all that often I thought I was safe.  But then NARS started to creep into my collection and I tried to quash the urge to have ALL THE NARS.  And then it happened....I was spiraling out of control. Paul & Joe Beaute released their Spring 2014 "Color Powders" (Which is code for BLUSH) and they were so beautiful and so cute and so darn awesome I had to have them. I literally shouted at my computer screen, "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!" when I saw them for sale on b-glowing.com and beautyhabit.com.

Paul-&-Joe-Beaute-Amaryllis-Azalea-Review-on-pinksith

I admit to my sisters in BA that I purchased two of the Paul & Joe Beaute Color Powders. One in Amaryllis, a beautiful vibrant red in the cutest little horse design case and Azalea, a bright cool toned pink in a retro 1980's stripedy case.  I couldn't help myself. It was as if some "thing" took over my body and made me buy them.  At least that is what I like to tell myself, because the truth is I have to take responsibility for my actions, and I just can't accept that right now.

Paul-&-Joe-Beaute-Amaryllis-Azalea-Review-on-pinksith

Just look at the cute overspray (that is removed as soon as you use the blush). Look at the cute packaging. Look at the colors.  Could there be two more PERFECT red and pink blushes in this world?  I think not!  They apply like a dream. Sheer but pigmented...in fact, be careful you don't apply too much. it's easy to do because these little blushes are so pigmented.  Not only did they look pretty in the pan, but on the skin they looked just as lovely and lasted a long, long time too! The color looks natural and sweet and innocent and ...well...PERFECT.

Paul-&-Joe-Beaute-Amaryllis-Azalea-Review-on-pinksith

So the question needs to be asked.  Do you NEED this?  The question is a rhetorical one and the answer is YES! Of course you need this.  Not only does the blush look pretty on the skin, the packaging is so insanely cute that it would be a crime NOT to get at least one.  I think I may have found THE PERFECT blush. I can stop searching.... What's that?  Chanel is coming out with a new pink blush?  Shut Up And Take My Money!

The Paul & Joe Beaute Color Powders CS for Spring 2014 retail for $28 each. I purchased mine from b-glowing.com, but you can also find them for purchase on beautyhabit.com.

Juara Tiare Jasmine Tea Bath & Shower Gel - Review

Juara-Tiare-Jasmine-Tea-Bath-&-Shower-Gel-Review-on-Pinksith

I received a new Shower & Bath gel from Juara and I was so excited to try it, I rushed upstairs to take a shower as soon as it arrived.  I'm a dork that way.  As I was getting undressed in the bathroom, the hot water from the shower starting to steam the edges of the mirror over the sink, there was a knock at the door.

I call out "hello" in a startled and concerned voice.  The answer was from a voice that was not familiar. In a very plain and matter of fact tone to the voice, it says, "Delivery".

Jasmine
Of course you can imagine, I'm pretty vulnerable. I'm in a bathroom, undressed and some strange voice claiming to make a "delivery" at my bathroom door. I grab the only weapon I can find, a pair of eyebrow trimming scissors and try to sound as confident as I can, when I ask, "What do you mean, 'delivery'? And who the heck are you?"   Of course I'm wishing that our one million cordless phones actually worked and was sitting on the charger stand in the bathroom, but as usual it's probably under the bed with the battery fully drained.  The voice starts to sound a bit more familiar as I can hear a bit of amusement in the tone of the voice when it says, "I have a flower delivery for you ma'am."  Now I finally recognize the voice as the bottle of Juara Tiare Jasmine Tea Bath & Shower Gel that arrived this afternoon.  Of course! I left it on the kitchen counter and forgot it when I rushed upstairs to take a shower with it.  Silly me. I was so busy whispering sweet nothings to it, telling it what things I planned to do with it when I got it alone in the shower that I inadvertently left it on the counter.  I swear if my head wasn't attached to my body I would probably forget it somewhere!

Tiare

I drape a towel around me and open the door. As soon as I do the bottle of Juara Tiare Jasmine Tea Bath & Shower Gel showers me in a million and one flower petals of Tiare, Jasmine and Gardenia.  When all is said and done I'm thinking that a million and one petals isn't all that much because the scent isn't as overpowering as I would have assumed from a shower gel that is labeled as "Tiare Jasmine Tea". It's actually quite delicate if you really want to know.  A stunning and fresh white floral scent with light notes of jasmine and gardenia.  Normally both of those flowers can give off a quite heady and thick scent, but somehow the tiare (which is a member of the gardenia family) and the tea aspect of the jasmine tea in the name of the product are light and airy and well...like bathing in flower petals rather than having a bucket of perfume oil dumped on you.

Gardenia
Of course one wonders that with a shower GEL that the moisture level isn't going to be as great, but I must say that the Juara Tiare Jasmine Tea Bath & Shower Gel, which is free of artificial colorants, parabens, phthalates, and sulfates, is delightfully kind to the skin. It foams up very nicely when using my shower pouf. As soon as the suds start to explode on the pouf the scent of fresh jasmine tea leaves on the hills of Indonesia envelop your senses.  I am transported to the tea plantations of Indonesia and showered in a million and one flower petals all over again.  Of course the workers are quite shocked because there is a naked woman standing on the hill in the middle of the tea leaves, but whatever...I'm sure they have seen stranger things.

The  Juara Tiare Jasmine Tea Bath & Shower Gel is soothing  and contains antioxidant rich white, black, and green teas, natural cleansers, and softening moisturizing agents to cleanse my skin, leaving it supple and silky and never taut and dry.  According to Juara, the triple-tea extracts of Green, White and Black teas soothe and calm skin stressed by sun exposure and environmental aggression. Since I never really go outside, I'm going to say that my skin felt calmed by the "environmental aggression" I have experienced.

Jasmine Tea

Do you need this?  YES!  I mean you may not be transported to the tea plantations of Indonesia, nor will the bottle speak to you and dump a million and one flower petals on you, but you might just fall in love with the intoxicating and fresh clean scent. If you're smart and stop taking your meds, like I did, the bottle will talk to you and you will reap all the benefits I did by using this Juara Tiare Jasmine Tea Bath & Shower Gel.

The Juara Tiare Jasmine Tea Bath & Shower Gel retails for $28 USD for a 12 oz bottle.  Juara also offers a body milk, which I have yet to try, but my friend Kelly over at Gouldylox Reviews has, and she loves it!  You can purchase directly from the Juara website or from skinstore.com

What say you?  Ready to bathe in a million and one flower petals?

Nivea Lip Care A Kiss of Care & Color - Review, Pictures, Swatches

Nivea-Lip-Care-A-Kiss-of-Care-&-Color-on-PinkSith

I am kinda a Nivea lip care junkie.  They have a sheer gloss called Nivea a Kiss of Shine with a SPF that I ADORE. It keeps my lips from drying out overnight and during the day provides the perfect amount of shimmer for a natural lip look.  In fact I have gone though several tubes of the stuff.  But this review isn't about that wunder-product.  No this review is about something very different. Something not so "wunder"-ful. This is a review for Nivea A Kiss of Care & Color.  <--- a="" cue="" href="http://www.myinstants.com/instant/sad-trombone/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Sad Trombone Music
.
Nivea-Lip-Care-A-Kiss-of-Care-&-Color-on-PinkSith

This is not a terrible Nivea lip product, it's just not the most moisturizing lip product in the world...or even in the country, or even in my purse. It promises to provide "Long-Lasting Moisture" with a tint of color, but what it provides is a tint of color and 30 minute to one hour lasting moisture.  It feels like it almost evaporates from my lips after about an hour of wear, then I find myself applying more and more.  Thankfully the tint is subtle and it doesn't look cakey or gross after multiple applications, but I truly felt like I needed a lip balm under my lip balm.  That's just...well Sad Trombone

Nivea-Lip-Care-A-Kiss-of-Care-&-Color-on-PinkSith

The colors I have are Sheer Pink, Sheer Crimson, and Sheer Berry, but Nivea offers a Sheer Coral as well.

Nivea-Lip-Care-A-Kiss-of-Care-&-Color-on-PinkSith

The Sheer Pink is the ickiest of all the colors. (That's the technical term = icky.  As opposed to pukey, gross or grody) I use this under lip products that are a bit drying, and it works out well enough, but I find myself reaching for more lip balm later on.  The Sheer Pink color just is NOT for me. I mean look at my lips. They look like two albino slugs.  ICKY!

Nivea-Lip-Care-A-Kiss-of-Care-&-Color-on-PinkSith

The Sheer Crimson is a pretty sheer red. if you are looking for a good moisturizing base under a lipstick look  elsewhere (Sad Trombone), but if you want a sheer red lip and want to combine it with a clear gloss this would make a loverly look.

Nivea-Lip-Care-A-Kiss-of-Care-&-Color-on-PinkSith

The Sheer Berry is my favorite. I carry this with me at all times as it is the "My Lips But Better" lip color...unfortunately not moistruizing (Sad Trombone). I re-apply this several times a day. My tube is half way gone now.

Nivea-Lip-Care-A-Kiss-of-Care-&-Color-on-PinkSith

Why did Nivea fail to provide enough moistruization?  I don't think I will ever know. It's not like they read this blog or care what I think, but perhaps one day, one day soon they will reformulate the Kiss of Care & Color line and not only keep the great and natural looking tint of the products but also add in that much needed moistruization that I have come to love from Nivea Lip Products.

Nivea-Lip-Care-A-Kiss-of-Care-&-Color-on-PinkSith

Fortunately, I only paid $4.99 for each lip product and one was sent for review for a post I did with Walgreens, so I'm only out $10...I still use them Nivea Kiss of Care & Color, I just have to constantly re-apply and that gets me cranky and I start humming the Sad Trombone in my head every time I twist up the tube of lip balm.

Do you NEED this?  Maybe? I mean it does moisturize the lips, but not long enough for me. The tint in the Sheer Crimson and Sheer Berry are very flattering and I like to combine them with a sheer gloss so it does make a nice lip look...so it's not a total loss... I guess.

Do you have any beauty products that give you the Sad Trombone?  I have a list a mile long, but I would love to hear what some of yours may be.

Thursday Poll

Thursday-Poll-PinkSith

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. For about 2 decades Valentines day was the bane of my existence.  I was usually not in a serious relationship when Valentine's Day came around and therefore felt like a lonely, awkward, unloved loser.  That's how I felt after watching all the TV commercials with men buying flowers and diamonds for the woman they loved.  That's how I felt when I walked in the local card store and was assaulted by aisle after aisle of red, pink and white cards and stuffed bears holding hearts and other fuckery.  That's how I felt when passing the rows of red cellophane wrapped heart shaped boxes of crappy drugstore candy. I felt alone. I felt unloved. I started to HATE Valentine's Day. "It's a made up holiday!" I would mutter. "It's a Hallmark holiday!" I would retort when one of my friends would bring it up.  Inevitably I would spend Valentine's Day alone in my apartment eating pizza and finishing off a box of Russell Stover candy that I purchased for myself. All while holding back tears and watching 16 Candles or some other John Hughes movie.  I was pathetic.  But I began to realize that no one was making me feel this way, but myself. I CHOSE to listen to those stupid TV ads that sang "Every kiss begins with Kay." I chose to wander the aisles of cards and candy and stuffed animals. I chose to feel sorry for myself.  No one forced me to do it. I chose to feel bad about myself on Valentine's Day.  How crappy is that?  In reality I would NEVER want commercial jewelery, especially some "open heart" design from some C-List actress.  I really don't need a card to feel loved. I'm not even a fan of stuffed animals.  So what was I really missing out on?  Now that I am in a relationship and married almost 13 years I still kind of dread Valentine's Day. Not because I am worried about being alone or feeling like a loser. No. I dread it because I know there are women and men out there that still feel the way I used to.  I hate the thought of someone feeling like a loser because they don't have someone else in their life willing to spend $2.50 on a card and $7.35 on a box of shitty candy.  You know what?  DON'T feel bad. Don't feel sorry.  Buy yourself that stuffed bear holding a red satin heart. Buy yourself some NICE chocolates. Order flowers for yourself and have them delivered to work if you want. It's OK to love yourself. It's OK to take yourself on a date for Valentine's Day. Treat yourself.  Buy that slow jazz CD and fill the tub with bubble bath and rose petals. Romance yourself.  There is nothing wrong with enjoying your own company. I wish I had learned that lesson long ago. It would have saved me countless tears and many a lonely night feeling miserable when I could have been relaxing to Kenny G and a facial.  So Happy Valentine's Day to all of my readers. I have a special stuffed bear picked out just for you!

On To The Poll!

1.  Lip Of The Day? - Since this week has been ALL ABOUT lips why not go with the flow?  Today I am wearing Armour Lip Gloss in Cat Club with a little bit of Purple Rain in the center of the lip....because I can.

2. Do you share the same disdain I do/did for Valentine's Day, or did you learn it's not the end of the world if someone doesn't buy you a dozen malnourished red roses? - See above for my thoughts.

3.  Latest Beauty Purchase? - Aside from the Paul & Joe blushes and lipsticks, I picked up a new eye cream from Algenist. So far so good!

4. What is your favorite holiday (Real or Hallmark)? - Halloween followed by Thanksgiving. Costumes and Food! Love them both!

5. How many lip products are in your purse right now!? - Oh this is embarrassing. I have 17 different lip glosses, lipsticks and lip pencils in my purse.  I need to clean it out...obviously!

Paul & Joe Beauté Spring 2014 Lipsticks in Rosebud and Peony - Review, Pictures, Swatches

Paul-&-Joe-Spring-2014-Lipstick-in-Peony-and-Rosebud-on-Pinksith

I have a crush on Paul & Joe makeup. It's so freakin CUTE! I was never the "cute" girl in school. I was awkward and overweight and had clothing that was not in fashion. I was also kinda tall compared to my classmates. There were these tiny girls in my school that were "cute" pixieish girls that had bright smiles and perfect hair and cute, cute, cute! I longed to be cute, but It's just not in my nature. I'm sardonic, snarky, sarcastic. Heck. Wednesday Addams is cute compared to me. But now I can finally own a bit of cute by picking up the Paul & Joe Spring 2014 collection!

I purchased 2 blushers and 2 lipsticks. Today I'll tell you about the lipsticks. I purchased (as you can see above) 085 Peony and 086 Rosebud. Since Paul & Joe sells their lipsticks without cases I purchased 2 cases from the Spring Collection, but in reality I could have purchased cases from any number of available collections. The 2 cases I purchased are Case 012 The mint green case that houses Peony Lipstick and case 014 which houses Rosebud Lipstick with the pretty horses print against a peach background.

Let's take a closer look at the lipstick itself:

Paul-&-Joe-Lipstick-in-085-Peony-on-Pinksith
Paul-&-Joe-Lipstick-in-085-Peony-on-Pinksith

Peony Lipstick looks deceptively opaque, but once it is applied to the lips it is a VERY sheer pink. In fact, those with more prominent lip color might find that this pink is almost invisible on you. I normally like sheer lipsticks, but not at the expense of pigmentation. While I found the formula to be one of the nicest sheers I have purchased, the fact that it barely showed up on my lips was a real downer.

Paul-&-Joe-Lipstick-in-085-Peony-on-Pinksith

As you can see in the lip swatch above, this was several coats of the Peony lipstick. It started to get a bit blotchy after a few coats, so the application doesn't look as crisp as it could be.

Next we have Rosebud Lipstick

Paul-&-Joe-Lipstick-in-086-Rosebud-on-Pinksith
Paul-&-Joe-Lipstick-in-086-Rosebud-on-Pinksith
Paul-&-Joe-Lipstick-in-086-Rosebud-on-Pinksith

This is a sheer red lipstick, and despite the official product images from Paul & Joe I found Rosebud to be a lot warmer than pictured. As you can see in the images above, the red is quite warm looking and vibrant. However, once applied to the lips the red is a sweet, sheer red that applies like a dream! This is my favorite of the two lipsticks I picked up. It's not just because I'm partial to red lipstick, it's because the level of pigmentation is perfect, it's sheer and fresh and PERFECT for Spring and Summer! Heck, I'm wearing it now in Winter. I couldn't wait!

Paul-&-Joe-Lipstick-in-086-Rosebud-on-Pinksith

As you can see in the lip swatch above, Rosebud applied evenly and looks really great! This is just two coats of the lipstick applied on the lips.

The formula for both lipsticks is excellent. Very moisturizing and light. TheY did not feel greasy or sticky. The wear time was shorter than a regular lipstick because they are a sheer formula, but that's to be expected. The lipsticks don't have a scent or flavor, which I like, and they just feel really nice on the lips.

Paul-&-Joe-Spring-2014-Lipstick-in-Peony-and-Rosebud-on-Pinksith

The Paul & Joe Lipsticks retail for $20 USD each and the cases from the Spring 2014 collection retail for $7 USD each. I purchased mine at B-Glowing.com, but you can also find them for sale at beautyhabit.com. You can also check out the Paul & Joe shopping locator on their website.

Do you NEED this? YES, for the Rosebud Lipstick and Maybe for the Peony. Either way the formula is nice and the cases that you can pick from are just too cute! I received a lot of compliments on the cases and on the Rosebud lipstick...so that's why I would recommend it. Most important, this makeup makes me feel like I might be a little bit cute when I wear the colors and use the products. Since I have longed to be cute most of my life, Paul & Joe can at least let  me feel cute, even if I don' look it!

What about you? Interested in either of the above?

Top Ten Tuesdays - Top Ten Red Lipsticks...and glosses and liquid lipsticks and stuff

Top Ten Tuesdays is back and this time we are showing off our Favorite or Top 10 RED lipsticks.  Since no woman can live off of lipstick alone, I decided to include lip gloss and liquid lipstick in my top 10 list too.

Red lipstick or red lips, for that matter, has a special place in my heart. I feel that red lips are the epitome of classic makeup. Red lips make such a statement that no one can ignore them. So without further ado, here are my current Top 10 Red Lips (Note, this list can change at any given moment!)

1. NYX X-Treme Lip Cream in 07 Absolute Red - Reviewed HERE. This red liquid lipstick is long lasting and a great deep red color. More blue based than orange, but still stunning, and for only $6 you can't beat the price!

2. Stars Makeup Haven Jezebel Lip Gloss - Reviewed HERE. Stars Makeup Haven is a small indie brand that has captured my heart. This is a great red gloss. No shimmer and a lot of shine. Very classic!  At $8 per gloss you can afford to pick up more than one!

3. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics NSFW Lip Tar - Reviewed HERE. This highly pigmented liquid lip product has a cult following and is incredibly versatile.  It can be mixed with other lip tars to create a personalized color, or worn alone for a true balanced red lip.  A little goes a long way, so this product is worth every penny of its $18 price tag.

4. Armour Beauty Shattered Lip Gloss - Reviewed HERE. This Long Lasting Lip Gloss is a sweet blue based red with tons of shimmer and shine.  This is like a candy apple metallic red. Your lips will look like a race car...OK. really that's a good thing.  Priced moderately at $21 you will get good wear from this one!

5. Bite Beauty Zivoli Lipstick - Reviewed HERE.  Bite Beauty focuses on lips and what they know about making a comfortable and pretty red lipstick could fill an entire room.  Zivoli is a brick red that is perfect for warmer and darker skin tones.  I happen to love that it enhances my red hair.  Yes. Redheads can wear red lipstick and Bite Beauty Zivoli lipstick is proof! Priced at $24, this is a must have if you are looking for a warmer red lip!

6. NARS Majella Satin Lip Pencil - Reviewed HERE. Not all red lips need to come from a tube. sometimes a pencil will do. Majella is a red wine like color that allows for precise application straight from the pencil.  It wears well and has a pretty shine. It's portable for easy touch ups and feels light on the lips. Who could ask for more?  Priced at $25, it's a little splurge, but worth it!

7. Shiseido Perfect Rouge in RD514 Dragon - Reviewed HERE. Oh man, this red lip is powerful. This is a true classic red that reminds me of 1940's Hollywood Glam!  I love the formula so much I considered buying several other colors from this range.  I have yet to have a lipstick feel so wonderful upon application and hours after application. It's a winner for $25!

8. Paul & Joe Limited Edition Lipstick in 086 Rosebud - Review HERE. This sheer red is perfect for those still wanting to test out a red lip. It's sheer enough not to cause too much commotion but can be layered for a more intense pop of color. The lipstick itself is so pretty with the classic Paul & Joe chrysanthemum design. It also feels very moisturizing on the lips. The lipstick is $20 and the case is sold separately so you can choose your design for an additional $7 more.

9. Givenchy Le Rouge Lipstick in 307 Grenat Initié - Reviewed HERE. Want a lot of luxury and a classic red lip at the same time. Then Givenchy Le Rouge lipstick is for you. The case is covered in soft supple leather and your lips will be coated in a creamy and dreamy lipstick formula.  The red is a deeper red and looks quite classic. I must say that the Shiseido Dragon and this one are my 2 favorites. Of course you don't need both, but at $36 you will have to decide if the additional money is with it.

10. Guerlain Rouge G L'Extrait in Luxure - Reviewed HERE. This liquid lipstick is at the tip top of luxury for me. At least the red is a classic blue based deep red and applies like a dream....it also wears like a dream too. Plus the case has a built in mirror for on the go touch ups.  It looks pretty snazzy when you whip it out of your purse too. Of course at $51 you REALLY have to like red lipstick, or Guerlain, or spending money...like I do!

I know there are tons more red lipsticks, glosses, cremes, pencils and such that I didn't include, but that just means that I need to write more red lipstick reviews!  Which ones of the above are your favorites?  Any red lip products I didn't mention that you happen to adore? Let me know in the comments section!
