8 Beauty Scenarios and How I Would Handle Them

8-Beauty-Scenarios

So I was browsing the beauty blogs on the interwebz and I ran across a post from Honey Girl's World (Hawaiian Beauty Blogger with very pretty eyes) that I just had to do for myself.  She did her Beauty Scenario Tag in a video post, but because I usually think of doing posts at the last minute, I decided to do a written word version of this post.  So here are the Questions and Answers.
8-Beauty-Scenarios

1. You have to get rid of all your foundations and you can only keep one high end and one drugstore, which do you keep?
Unless there is a gun to my head, I don't think I would comply, but if I really had to, I guess I would keep my Ardency Inn Custom Coverage Concentrate (review) because I can dial up or down the coverage. (That's the high end) and I would keep my Revlon Photoready BB Cream, (review) because it's one of the few drugstore BB creams that doesn't break me out and matches my skin tone pretty well.

2. You go for an interview and the lady interviewing you has lipstick on her teeth. Do you approach the subject or ignore it completely?
Oh man. This is a toughie!  I know I would want to be told if I had lipstick on my teeth. So I would do the same to any woman I met who has lipstick on their teeth.  An Interview can be stressful, I conduct them every day at my real job, but if I was in an interview and later found out I had lipstick on my teeth and the candidate didn't tell me I would be even more embarrassed than if they had told me right away.  So Yes. I would say something during the interview.

3. You’re not feeling yourself and need a pick me up. Which lipstick do you put on to make yourself feel beautiful?
Since I have enough lipstick to supply a small third world village of budding makeup addicts I don't have to hunt very long for one to make me feel pretty. I would probably reach for my Givenchy Le Rouge #307 Grenat Initié Lipstick (review) or My NARS Yu Satin Lip Pencil (review) which is an awesome hot pink!

4. You go back in time for a day to your teenage years, how would you do your hair and makeup differently?
Oh man. My teenage years were in the 1980's so there is NO WAY I could make any significant changes to the ugly 1980's. But pretending I could I would totally bleach my hair and color it blue or purple or whatever color Manic Panic had available back then. I would also keep the side of my head shaved (which I did have for about 6 months) and totally do the asymmetrical haircut hair falling over one eye look.  As for makeup. I would have tried to learn how to apply it better. I wore black eye liner and red lipstick but I also wore blue eyeliner and shimmery pink lipstick too. I would probably ban myself from the shimmery pink lipstick. *shudder*

Pixie Lott

5. You ask your hairdresser for a shoulder length Pixie Lott hair cut, but they hear wrong and give you a pixi cut. Do you a) Smile, say thank you, leave and call your mum hysterical b) Cry in the chair and things get awkward or c) Complain to the manager and demand a refund?
I had to do a google image search to figure out who Pixie Lott was. Once I figured that out I could answer the question. Actually.... BEFORE I figured that out I could answer the question. My Answer: It would NEVER EVER HAPPEN! There is no way I wouldn't say something in the middle of the haircut if I saw it going astray. I am VERY specific when I tell my stylist what I want. and I have and would say something if it looks like it is getting too short!  I don't know how people can sit in a chair and let someone give them a bad haircut without saying something while it is happening. You know that asking for shoulder length is not going to involve cutting up near your ear like a pixie cut would, so why be a zombie and just take it?  Speak up!  I once was getting my hair beached white (back in the day) and the dude didn't leave the bleach on long enough and my hair was like canary yellow. Then he tried to put a violet wash over it to tone down the yellow and my hair looked like a foggy green. I was PISSED!!!! I told him I wasn't going to pay and he agreed he had screwed up, so I left.  Thankfully I was able to wash out the violet wash and I just had yellow hair for a few months...but it was better than the foggy green.

6. Your friend surprises you with a 4 day city break and you have 1 hour to pack. Which ‘do it all’ palette do you pack in your makeup bag?
I sadly, do not have a do it all makeup palette. I have ones that have blush and eyeshadow but nothing with a foundation, powder, blush and shadow.  So I guess I would take my Chantecaille Sylvie Palette. (review) This is a long since discontinued palette but it has the perfect mix of taupe, dark brown and ivory shadows for several different looks and a pretty pink blush that I adore.  In fact I have taken this palette to Vegas and it was all I used for 4 days! It was awesome. However if I had just one eyeshadow palette to choose I would go with Urban Decay Naked 2! (review) It has the perfect mix of neutrals for any look I want to achieve!

7. Your house has been robbed, don’t worry everyone is safe, but your beauty stash has been raided. What’s the product you really hope is safe?
A beauty Thief? Well I guess I need to put my collection on my home owners insurance huh?  I don't think I would be upset if anything was stolen except for my Chanel blushes and my Shu Uemura ME Silver 945 eye shadow. (review) The Ultimate Taupe Shadow!  Since I can only pick one in this scenario I will pick the Shu shadow. That is irreplaceable.

8-Beauty-Scenarios

8. Your friend borrows your makeup and returns it in awful condition. Do you a) Just pretend you haven’t noticed b) Ask them to repurchase it or c) Secretly do the same to something of theirs.
My Answer: D) Never lend makeup to a friend. No seriously. I don't "lend" makeup. I can have you look at it, you can try it on at my home, but the merchandise does not leave my house!  If I was ever foolish enough to lend makeup I would only lend something that I knew I could replace. That means no limited edition or discontinued items would ever be lent to anyone. I'm subscribe to the philosophy of never let anyone borrow anything that you wouldn't mind giving away...because many times. that "borrowed" item never comes back.  The Answer in the pretend world of these questions is B. Ask them to repurchase it. The passive aggressive and slightly sociopathic answer of C "Secretly do the same to something of theirs." scares me that it's even an option. Who the hell does that?

So what say you? Obviously there are too many questions to answer all of them in the comments, but if you want to give your 2 cents please feel free to cherry pick a few questions and give me your answers. I would love to see what you have to say!

7 Great Father's Day Gift Ideas - A Father's Day Gift Guide

Fathers-Day-Gift-Guide-on-Pinksith

Father's Day is June 15th! OK. Most dads don't really want another tie or golf stuff for Father's Day. They also won't tell you what they do want.  Honestly I think all they want is like 30 minutes of uninterrupted bathroom time....if  you get my drift.  Most men will balk at the idea of getting face cream or shampoo, a.k.a. "Product" as a gift.  However, some dads don't even know that they want some cool "Product" for Father's Day. Maybe if you saw what's available and add one or more of these items to your dad's bevy of gifts for Father's Day he would be most appreciative and realize that he really DID want "Product". Or maybe not...So I included a tie and a couple of other non "product" suggestions on this list.

Fathers-Day-Gift-Guide-on-Pinksith

$11.95 USD from shopvault.com or $12.95 from badricks.com
This all in one sop for face, body and hair (or beard) is infused with natural oils like Tea Tree Oil, Sweet Almond Oil and Trichilla Seed Oil,  It is also loaded with shea butter to nourish the skin and supply naturally occurring vitamins A, D and E!  The Tobacco and Vanilla scent is sure to make even the most picky man fall in very manly love over it.  The tea tree oil provides a cooling effect while providing anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties.  The soap leaves no filmy residue or buildup and leaves the user feeling squeaky clean...in the most macho way possible.

Fathers-Day-Gift-Guide-on-Pinksith

$15.99 USD from pacificshaving.com
With caffeine being a go-to ingredient in everything from eye creams and anti-aging lotions to concealers and moisturizers, it's finally found its way into the shaving world. Say goodbye to razor rash with the high octane fueled caffeinated products from Pacific Shaving Company.  Because caffeine is an effective vasoconstrictor and an antioxidant, the caffeine in the Pacific Shaving Company's products help reduce the appearance of redness and keeps his skin looking and feeling healthy.  And yes. Caffeine can be absorbed through the skin so it will get him going in the morning before his first cup of joe! So now dad can put some caffeine ON his mug before he puts some IN his mug!  Get it?

Fathers-Day-Gift-Guide-on-Pinksith

$25.00 USD from nordstrom.com
The Billy Jealousy brand has been a long time favorite of Mr. Sith. Mr. Sith has a huge beard and shaves his head, so shampoo & conditioner are not on his shopping list, until now.  The Beard Envy Kit from Billy Jealousy provides a beard wash to gently, and masculinely cleanse and condition even the gnarliest of beards. It also includes a beard control to tame the beast beard and give it light hold. It also conditions and protects for a natural look with a smidge of definition.  And last, but not least, the kit includes a boar bristle brush, which is the recommended type of brush to use on a beard.

Fathers-Day-Gift-Guide-on-Pinksith

$49.00 USD from evolution-man.com
This skincare duo is the Batman and Robin of Men's skin care.  They both pack an anti-aging punch when it comes to under eyes and facial skin health.  The EvolutionMan Revitalize Eye Gel is formulated to provide maximum results to strengthen and protect the delicate yet macho eye area using a combo of BHA and AHA for cell turnover and growth, anti-aging ingredients like Vitamin C, E and anti-inflammatory extracts from Licorice root, Algae and Seaweed.  The Moisture Protect SPF 20 (Oil Free) moisturizer laves a greaseless to the touch and matte finish on the skin.  Vitamins C and E combined with green tea extract rejuvenate the skin. It also helps calm razor burn and irritation while providing UVA sun protection.

Fathers-Day-Gift-Guide-on-Pinksith

$12.99 USD (9 cubes) from thinkgeek.com
Think Geek will admit that water is awesome (Wow. Way to be controversial TG!) and it's also awesome because it can freeze, but what's not so awesome is that once frozen and exposed to warmer temperatures it will melt, melting ice in your whiskey will dilute it...and we can't have that!  So to combat the dreaded dilutation (Yes. I made up that word) of precious, life-giving whiskey/scotch/whatever, a few great soapstone workers in Perkinsville, Vermont created Whiskey Stones.  These little "ice-imitators" are designed to put a chill in his whiskey without the water.  Just toss them in the freezer for a few hours then pop a couple into his glass of 17 year old Taketsuru Whiskey and he's set!   Or perhaps he's a single malt kinda guy. Add a couple to his glass of  Laphroaig 10 Year Old "Cask Strength" Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky and he'll be singing your praises in no time.  Once he's done, just rinse, dry and do it all over again!

Fathers-Day-Gift-Guide-on-Pinksith

$25.46 USD from nordstrom.com
Class up his iPhone 5 or 5S with the distinctive and masculine grain of genuine rosewood.  It's trimmed with protective polycarbonate to protect his "precious".  Plus wood grain phone cases are ironic, so if your dad or dad to be is a closeted hipster only he will get the joke.

Fathers-Day-Gift-Guide-on-Pinksith

$54.99 - $64.99 USD from thinkgeek.com
OK. So I couldn't resist adding a tie to the list of Father's Day gifts. As cliche as giving a tie can be, you can make it cool by incorporating some Star Wars logos into it. Choose from Darth Vader or Imperial Cog to the Rebel (Scum) Logo in Blue or Yellow.  Who wouldn't love a Darth Vader Silk Tie?! OK. Maybe not Conan Antonio Motti.

He was an Imperial officer who served aboard the Death Star and was "Force Choked" by Vader. But he's dead, and dead men don't wear ties.

So what say you?  Did I help with some ideas for Father's Day?

The Lipstick League – week of 5.19.14

Question of the Week: What are some of your favorite blushes, highlighters and/or bronzers for summer?

Answer: I try to avoid highlighters during the summer b/c it makes my skin look too oily.  I do love me some blush. This summer I', particularly enamored with NARS Day Dreaming blush, which is a perfect peachy-pinky-looks-great-on-anyone color!

we heart this - what $6 body wash, with a jar of moisturizer in each bottle, has made us forget all about a $25 one? This one!

Pink Sith - shows you the “magical” transformation that the ARDENCY INN Americana Custom Coverage Concentrate gives her as well as the sheer versatility of this wonderful foundation!

Prime Beauty - is loving Lancôme’s French Riviera Summer Collection, especially the Azure Chic Color Design Eyeshadow Palette; it combines the glorious soft golden sand and turquoise sea colors of summer.

Guest Post of the Week, as chosen by we heart this - we've always liked Blushing Noir for her great swatches and obvious love of makeup. But now we LOVE her for showing us a dupe for last year's LE Maybelline creme eye shadow Seashore Frosts (a shade Stef is addicted to!)

Marco Collagen Color Guard Hair Care System - Review

Marco-Collagen-Color-Guard-Hair-Care-System-Review-on-PinkSith

In classical mythology there were two monsters named Scylla and Charybdis. They would lay in wait either side of the narrow stretch of water now known as the Strait of Messina. The Strait of Messina is a narrow body of water that separates the island of Sicily from the main land mass of Italy.  The strait is located near the tip of the "boot" of Italy.

The old saying "Between the Scylla and the Charybdis" has the same general meaning as "Between a rock and a hard place.", two equally undesirable alternatives.  In mythology, Scylla and Charybdis were monsters, but the legend came about because Scylla is an actual rock and Charybdis an actual whirlpool. Traditionally, the location of Charybdis has been associated with the Strait of Messina off the coast of Sicily, opposite the rock called Scylla. The "whirlpool" is a result of multiple currents meeting in one place, but in reality it is rarely dangerous.  Some scholars now believe that this location is incorrect and the Scylla and Charybdis is more likely about an area near Cape Skilla in north west Greece. But for the sake of this review let's keep it to Italy.

The Scilla Rock and the castle that lies on top of it.Copyright: gurgenb / 123RF Stock Photo

What does this have to do with Hair Care Products?

Well, it's kind of a stretch, but I have been to Scilla, Italy in Calabria, My Relatives are from Calabria, Italy. (Not Scilla specifically) and The Collagen Color Guard Line was created by Marco Pelusi, who is also of Italian origin. So I figured why not reminisce about the beautiful area of Scilla, Italy and give you a little history/mythology lesson at the same time?  Plus you know me. I go off on tangents all the time.

OK I suppose I should tell you about the hair care line from Marco PelusiWho is Marco Pelusi?  Well he just happens to be one of Southern California's cutest and most talented celebrity hair stylist and colorist.  He has created a collagen-based hair care system with pharmaceutical-grade ingredients, for example, plant based collagen, keratin and wheat proteins. It also has organic coconut-based cleansing agents (more on that in a sec) sunscreens to protect your hair color from fading and some essential oils. The Marco Pelusi hair care line is cruelty-free and has been specifically developed for color and chemically treated hair.

For the sake of reference during this review I have fine, color treated, wavy, prone to breakage hair that lands at my shoulder blades.

Marco-Collagen-Color-Guard-Hair-Care-System-Review-on-PinkSith

This shampoo has a nice scent (minty/rosemary/Coconutty) and foams up nicely. It is touted as a moisturizing shampoo that is supposed to "gently cleanse and infuse the hair with natural proteins to protect hair from premature color fade and promote maximum vibrancy, shine and optimum pH balance."  This shampoo contains suflates. If you are sensitive to sulfates or just wish to avoid them, you may not want this shampoo.  I avoid them because my red hair color fades quickly when I use shampoos with sulfates.  (I use a box dye...sorry Marco...he must be cringing) I did not use this shampoo for the first 5 shampoos after coloring my hair.  However, since I started using the shampoo, it seems to work just fine, rise well and my color is no more faded that it should be at this stage.

Marco-Collagen-Color-Guard-Hair-Care-System-Review-on-PinkSith

This lightweight conditioner has a lavender scent, of which I'm not really a fan. I just don't like lavender, that's all. The scent doesn't linger on the hair once it is rinsed off, however.  The conditioner hydrates my hair just OK. I use it from the middle part of my hair to the ends and apply VERY lightly to my roots. According to Marco Pelusi This is a "restorative conditioner that is formulated to replenish the hair with vital moisture while increasing volume, manageability and shine.  It contains french lavender essential oils soothe and heal the scalp, apricot essential oils smooth, condition and mirror out natural sebum/hair oils, adding shine, slip and lubricity and aloe vera to moisturize and repair the hair shaft." I just wish he had a richer conditioner for extra dry hair like I have. Sometimes I feel like I need something extra in my routine.  The conditioner rinsed well and made my hair tangle free while wet. (Awesome!) My hair, after using the conditioner, wasn't weighed down by it and I did notice less breakage than normal for this phase of my hair growth after getting a cut.

Marco-Collagen-Color-Guard-Hair-Care-System-Review-on-PinkSith

Before air drying or blow drying, I used the Marco Leave-In Conditioner.  I had a learning curve for this product. It has a heavier, creamy consistency than I am used to, and while it is packaged in a pump bottle, the pump dispensed way more than I needed for my hair type and length. (I was a greasy stringy mess after using it the first time.)   Once I learned to use MUUUCH less, I noticed that this leave in treatment really worked well.   Since my hair was well detangled from using the wash-out conditioner, the leave-in made short work of any tangles that resulted from wrapping my hair in a towel.  Once dried, my hair was soft and manageable. According to Marco Pelusi the product is "naturally derived from coconut."  It has a decidedly coconut scent to it, but it does not linger in the hair. It contains cetrimonium chloride which is supposed to be a potent anti-frizz element that moisturizes and neutralizes static electricity. "The effects last for up to 72 hours even when rinsed with water."  The Leave-In also contains usp grade vitamin e, an antioxidant which can protect the hair from hostile environmental factors, apricot essential oils to fight dryness and cell dehydration, and sodium pca to give the hair more volume.

Do you NEED this?  Well this is where the Scylla and Charybdis come back into play.  Marco Pelusi is super nice and very forward thinking in his way to treat colored hair. And some of the products from the Marco line are nice. HOWEVER I don't know if I would recommend the shampoo because of the sulfates and I'm not sure I like the conditioner because of the scent and lack of moisture for my dry hair.  I'm between a rock and a hard place.  I'll give this set a "maybe".  The price point is up there for the Leave-In conditioner, but I think that is the best product out of the three I tried. Since I use so very little (less than 1/2 a pump per application), I know I will get my money's worth. But if you have thicker hair than me (and who doesn't, really) and/or longer hair, you might go through the Leave-In a bit faster.  I hate to disappoint Marco Pelusi, because he has been so kind to me, but I just can't say you NEED to go out and buy this right away.  Perhaps read some other reviews to make your final decision.
Here are some reviews from bloggers I trust:

What say you? Do any of the products sound good to you?  What type of hair do you have? Thin, Normal, Thick, Fine, Wavy, Coarse, Straight, Color Treated, Chemically Treated, etc?

Pixi Beauty Spring 2014 Nail Color in Lime Lustre Sizzling Sunshine and Oh So Orange - Review, Pictures, Swatches

Pixi-Beauty-Spring-2014-Nail-Color-on-pinksith

The other day I showed you a sneak peek of some of the Pixi Beauty items for Spring 2014. I thought I would individually review the items for a more in depth look and I wanted to start with the Pixi Nail Color.

Why?

Well first of all, nail polish is like my 2nd favorite thing in the world after makeup. (The third favorite thing is chocolate, fourth is Darthypie and Mr. Sith and fifth is pizza but don't tell Darthypie and Mr. Sith they rank AFTER Chocolate and makeup!)  Second of all, the colors that were sent to me inspired some nail art!  Gotta love when nail color inspires you.  While my skill at actual nail polish application is poor, my nail art skills are even worse!  However, I don't care if I suck at it. I do it for me...I'm sure I'll be bashed on my dry cuticles and sloppy application. I'll live and the world won't end. NAMASTE B**CHES!

The Pixi Nail Color formula is 3-Free and is slightly thick. Not gloopy or anything like that. It's just thicker than a Zoya or OPI polish.  It's still easy to work with despite the "thickness".  The brush for the polish is inconsistent between bottles.  The Oh So Orange had a wide, floppy brush, while the Sizzling Sunshine has a thinner, stiffer brush. Again Both were easy to work with despite the inconsistency. The coverage of all 3 polishes was excellent.  I was able to get opaque coverage in just 2 coats! I HATE Visible Nail Line (VNL) so I was glad that Sizzling Sunshine and Lime Lustre went opaque. The finish on the polishes was shiny and streak free.  However, the bottles are 1/2 the size of your average nail polish bottle. 7ml/0.25fl.oz versus 15 ml/0.5 fl.oz.  While that's OK with me, because I have over 200 polishes so I'm not really concerned with finishing a nail polish or running out any time soon, it may not be OK with the average consumer. In my opinion if the nail polish is 1/2 the size of an average bottle, the price point should be less.

OK. So let's look at the colors:

Lime Lustre

Pixi-Beauty-Spring-2014-Nail-Color-on-pinksith

I seriously LOVE this color. I have an affinity for light green polishes, but so many of them look chalky and flat on my nails. Because of the greenish/gold-ish lustre in the color, it looks like it has more depth. ADORE!  This is a a warm toned green which doesn't give me "Lobster Claws" as one of my favorite nail bloggers says.  This picture shows three coats and no top coat.  It wore well with a base and top coat for over 5 days with no chipping and very minimal tip wear.

Sizzling Sunshine

Pixi-Beauty-Spring-2014-Nail-Color-on-pinksith

I admit this is the 3rd yellow polish I have ever used and only the 2nd I have ever featured on the blog. I DO NOT like yellow nail polish. Even gold nail polishes kinda bug me...when I wear them... not on other people.  This yellow has a slight golden lustre to it. I know yellows are notoriously streaky, but this one applied well. This is three coats with no top coat.

Oh So Orange

Pixi-Beauty-Spring-2014-Nail-Color-on-pinksith

This is my very first NEON nail polish. It might be one of the few polishes I have ever owned that made the photo editing software on my computer flip out and go on strike.  Seriously. PhotoShop Elements submitted a grievance to me after I tried to correct the white balance and color cast in this photo.  The color pictured is not accurate to real life. In real life this color is a Safety Cone Orange. We're talking burning a hole in your retina orange. Looking at this polish for too long will screw up all the rods and cones in your eyes. (not really)  This is three coats with no top coat. This is a straight up neon creme.

Overall I found my first foray into Pixi Nail Polish to be a positive one. The quality was good, the color selection interesting, the dry time and application was good and the wear time was excellent.

Here is a little nail art I created with my dotting tool and an some errant brush strokes.  Cute.  Obviously not the best effort around, but good enough for me.

Pixi-Beauty-Spring-2014-Nail-Color-on-pinksith

Pixi Nail Color retails for $8.00 USD and can be purchased from the Pixi Beauty website or in select Target stores and on target.com.

What say you?  Do you like these colors?  Do you like to do nail art? What is your current fave color for Spring/Summer?  Let me know in the comments section!

Pixi Beauty Spring 2014 Collection - Pictures, Swatches

Pixi-Beauty-Spring-2014-Collection-on-Pinksith

Oh boy oh boy oh boy! Does Pixi Beauty have some fun products for Spring 2014.  OK. Sure it's almost June, but I have been using fun Spring colors since February so don't judge!  The loverly people at Pixi Beauty sent me a few items from their Spring 2014 collection to try out. Over the next 2 weeks I will show you a review for all the products I received, but today I just wanted to get you a peek at the products I am testing right now.

As you can see from the cover shot I'm using nail polish, eyeshadows and lip balms in fun colors.

Pixi-Beauty-Spring-2014-Collection-on-Pinksith

$8.00 USD
Colors: Lime Lustre, Sizzling Sunshine, Oh So Orange (Baby Girl, Rosewine, L.A. Blue and Makeup Artist Mauve not shown)
The Nail Polish is probably my favorite right now. My nails are finally one uniform length and mostly healthy!  So paining my nails is a treat rather than a chore.  I have been wearing the Pixi Lime Lustre polish for 4 days straight. 4 showers, 2 baths for Darthypie and multiple hand washings and I have only experienced minor tip wear! WIN!

Pixi-Beauty-Spring-2014-Collection-on-Pinksith

$8.00 USD

The Lip Balms are made with shea butter and impart a subtle tint. Almost like you have been eating a Popsicle.  Very pretty and very easy to swipe & go for on the move color!

The eyeshadow is a mineral formula and like many mineral formula shadows it is well pigmented. The Plum Quartz combo is the perfect one for me. It makes my grey eyes look greener and the shades are warm and cool for multiple looks in one palette! SO far so good!
