While I was at Sephora last weekend, I spotted a new display at the Bare Escentuals counter. Now, it’s a general fact that I don’t usually like Bare Escentuals, but I actually enjoy the Buxom glosses and once in a while, one of the eyeshadows will surprise me. Anyway, I was intrigued because, when I approached the new display, I noticed that the new products were cream eyeshadows! CREAM EYESHADOWS! They’re called Buxom Stay-There Eyeshadows, and they are each named after a different breed of dog.
ZOMG. We all know how much this bunny loves her cream eyeshadows! I couldn’t resist opening the jars and testing them out. I was very surprised by what I discovered.
First, the texture of these shadows is really strange. It’s not mousse-y, but it’s not a cream exactly. It looks like it’s a powder in the jar, but when you touch it...it’s maybe like a powdery cream? Or a creamy powder? Who the hell knows? It’s just unlike any cream eyeshadow I have tried (and you know that I’ve tried them all!). It’s velvety and weightless, and you can kind of squish it. Weird!
Of all the colors/dogs, Pug stood out to me because it is a pewtery-taupe, and we all know how much I love my pewter shades!
(Not exactly pewter-toned, but cute nonetheless!)
The rest of the colors are surprisingly bright and incredibly pigmented, which I didn’t expect from the Buxom line; I always thought that Bare Minerals/Bare Escentuals makeup was more on the natural side. I also fell hard for Mutt (warm-brown taupe) and Schnauzer (bright cool-ish purple), but money constraints lead me to choose just one color. I happily adopted Pug and went home.
Let’s talk about the formula - the Buxom Stay-There Eyeshadow is formulated without parabens, sulfates, and all that bad crap. Great! Also, it has Vitamin E and aloe so it’s soothing for your eyes. Also, the shadow is surprisingly creaseless, considering how creamy the eyeshadow is! It lasted (over a base of UDPP) for an entire work day - hot yoga usually does a number on my eyeshadows, but this stays put. Not only that, but I actually fell asleep while wearing Pug, and it looked as perfect when I woke up the next day as it did when I first applied it.
(SO CUTE, TINY JAR OF SPONGY BIZARRE SHIMMERY TAUPE HAPPIES!)
I love how easily layered Pug is - the formula is so workable that you can do a sheer wash of color or build it for maximum intensity without having the eyeshadow crease, smudge, or clump. This makes it a wonderful stand alone product, or a great base for other colors. In terms of shimmer, this eyeshadow is pretty shimmery. Again, if you use a light layer, the shimmer power is very muted. It becomes almost metallic if you build up the layers.
(AW SHIT THAT'S PRETTY!)
(I freakin' love this eyeshadow!)
Also, Bare Escentuals is making a donation to Canine Companions for Independence in honor of their new eyeshadows! Canine Companions for Independence is a non-profit organization that provides assistance dogs for those who are disabled. Awesome, no? This way, you can’t feel guilty for hauling these eyeshadows!
