Burberry 'Lip Cover' Soft Satin Lipstick in Rosewood

I was finally able to get my sithy little paws on Burberry Beauty ‘Lip Cover’ Soft Satin Lipstick in #04 Rosewood.  Let me tell you. It was worth the wait.  For some reason, Nordstrom had sold out of the #04 Rosewood very quickly and it took a few MONTHS to get more in…and now it’s available on the website again.  I can understand why this one specific lipstick is selling out.  1) It’s a new brand, Burberry Beauty.  It’s hot and NOW! And 2) It’s a universally flattering color.

Burberry Beauty ‘Lip Cover’ Soft Satin Lipstick in #04 Rosewood is a browned rose color. It has undertones of plum which gives the color a neutral tone.  If you look at the lipstick itself you will see slight gold and silver shimmer, but that does not translate to the lip when wearing it, however, I think it gives the color a bit more depth.  The cream formula is friendly to all skin types and ages.  And hey, it’s Burberry!

Sorry. I just am so happy to see that Rosewood looks so different on so many different people.  Check out Sabrina of The Beauty Look Book and see how Rosewood looks on her and then compare it to how it looks on Amy of Café Makeup, and now on me.  See?  Totally different, but totally pretty on all of us.  This is my go to lipstick. I carry this in my purse all the time because I know if I ever leave the house without my lip of the day, Burberry Beauty ‘Lip Cover’ Soft Satin Lipstick in #04 Rosewood will save the day.  I wouldn’t describe it as a My Lips But Better color, but I would say it can be casual and sophisticated at the same time.

The formula of the lipstick is very nice.  It is creamy and silky and feels incredibly light on my lips.  It applies smoothly and has great slip to it.  The coverage is opaque from first swipe and it lasts a decent amount of time despite the glossy finish to it.  (Most glossy finish lipstick wears off quickly).  My lips feel moisturized when I wear this and it’s not heavy feeling at all…however. I hate hate hate that it is scented.  I hate scented lip products and this one is not as bad as some (CoughL’OrealandDolce&GabbanaCough) but it’s still pretty bad. It’s a perfume-y flowery scent. I think it’s trying to be rose scented, but it just smells like heavy perfume to me.  It also has some of the perfume-y taste to it as well.  If ever get the chance, I plan to De-Scent the lipstick by leaving it uncovered for a day or two.  I just need to figure out a place to do that where my 2 cats won’t try to use it for soccer practice.  Seriously. Cats and lipstick do not mix.  I have already had two casualties in the past year thanks to Cujo and Herbie, my resident felines.  Those little jerks are seriously going to become earmuffs if they wreck another lipstick!

The packaging and presentation is exquisite.  The lipstick bullet itself is a work of art.  Adorned with the signature Burberry plaid design, the lipstick bullet is a bit shorter than some other lipsticks but by weight it is about the same as most (.13 oz).  The signature Burberry plaid is etched into the dark metal rectangular case.  The case has some heft to it, but certainly isn’t heavy. It’s juuust heavy enough to make it feel like you spent your money wisely.  Did I just say that?  It's heavy enough to feel like I spent my money wisely?  That, my dear readers is Elvira on Crack!  Heavy makeup is not indicative of quality or money spent.  I believe what I MEANT to say is that If feels like an expensive lipstick as many expensive lipsticks are heavy because of the packaging.  Oh dear. I really have no excuse. I can't hide it anymore.  I'm a closet packaging snob.  I like Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick simply for the "click click" of retrieving the lipstick.  I jadore Dior Addict lipsticks for the funny and useless metal bulb at the base of the product.  The neat thing with Burberry 'Lip Cover' Soft Satin Lipsticks is the way the top flips back into place.  A small magnet is embedded in the top and base of the lipstick so no matter how you put the top on, it will always flip around to the exact same spot it should be.  I know it’s a silly detail, and even sillier to be excited about it, but it just shows me that Burberry’s attention to detail with their Beauty Line is at the same high standards as their clothing and accessory lines.  (That's my story and I'm sticking with it!)

Do you NEED this?  Well honestly, if you balk at the $30 price tag, remember that this specific color is so pretty on so many people, you could wear this every day and never tire of it.  Yes. You NEED this lipstick. In this color, specifically.  However, if you are a lipstick hoor like me and some other people I know, you probably need #17 in Union Red as well.  That will be my next purchase for sure!

  2. I totally think the Burberry lipsticks are worth the $30. Sorry the scent is too much for you. Haven't bought Rosewood yet but I love my other Burberry lipsticks, need to get Rosewood before they sell out again!

  3. Dammit, I don't NEED another lipstick but now you've got me going on a mission to find Burberry Rosewood! I always laugh when we makeup addicts say "you could wear this lipstick, blush, foundation, eyeliner, etc. everyday as if we would! LOL

  5. Kristina: I apologize. I forgot to take a pic and it was too late last night when I realized I left the lipstick at work. :-( I promise I'll update with a lip swatch tonight or tomorrow.

  8. E,
This is worth the price tag because I have SUPER SENSITIVE lips and this does not leave my lips dry or raw by the end of the day or next morning. I have the Prune color and I love it. I also love the glosses. I do want to go back and try the Rosewood just out plain curiousity. Yes, I was amused like a cat with a string of yarn when I first played with the lipstick case. I'm a packing hoor and I don't care who knows.

  9. The scent was too much for me too. I ended up returning it :( I wish they would make ones with no scent because I loved everything else about it.

  10. Oh dude. The embossing on the lipstick bullet is slaying me. I must see if Burberry sells a fabulous nude lipcolor (which I'm sure they do - but then I might have to buy it, which would be bad for my wallet). But wow. I love Burberry's perfume and it appears that I am going to love the makeup line as well.

  12. Sorry this doesn't have to do with the lipstick exactly, but...OMG cats & makeup! My kitty used to play with my brushes and one time he puked all over them so I had to toss them. I swear they know to go after whatever you pay the most attention to!

  14. Do you have any problems with the scent of Chanel Rouge Coco lipsticks? I can't stand the scent of the Rouge Cocos and I can't decide whether or not this is worth trying. What do you think?
