Not even ready for shipping from the Neiman Marcus Website Bobbi Brown's new Rich Lip Color 12 SPF in Sweet Nectar is going to be one of the HOTTEST lipsticks for this spring. Now you may associate me with red lipsticks and pretty pink lipsticks but I doubt anyone would say. "Oh yeah. Elvira and Coral lipsticks? TOTALLY." No . Sure, Cindy over at the Prime Beauty Blog and Karla over at KarlaSugar.net L-O-V-E corals, peaches, etc. They are going to flip for this color. Mark My Words.
The color itself is a sweet peachy coral. You know from past posts I have a hard time deciding if something is peachy or coral or salmon but as I see it, this looks Peachy because it has more pink than orange in it. It leans slightly coral in the tube as the pink undertones don't shine through unless you put it on your lips. BUT then I have the uncanny ability to make warm lipsticks pull cool on me (Just lucky I guess) so this may read more coral on your lips than it does on mine. How's that for a non answer? Oh did I mention there is an ever so slight gold shimmer imparted in the color? Oh yeah baby. The gold shimmer gives the lip color depth and keeps it from looking chalky and also from looking like you are an octogenarian in south Florida going grocery shopping on a Tuesday with a waxy, opaque, orange gash for a mouth.
But aside from the color, the real gem is the formula of Bobbi Brown's new lipstick called Rich Lip Color. Now some of you may remember my beef with a Bobbi Brown lipstick I reviewed a few years ago. It was awful. Dry, waxy, corpse lips, blah, blah, blah. So you can assume correctly that I was a bit hesitant to try another lipstick from the line. Well, I received the Sweet Nectar color from a Bobbi Brown Rep at a recent Beauty Blogging event at Neiman Marcus so I decided to try it out despite my previous experience with Bobbi Brown lip color.
Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color comes in 13+ shades of bright, attention getting color. The lightweight formula packs an intense pigment punch. According to the Bobbi Brown website the formula "...combines pigments with a clear base to deliver pure, crisp color with just one swipe. Plus, it’s creamy and moisturizing, so lips feel as good as they look." Ah ha. Yes. THIS time the formula is very creamy and I didn't experience any Dry Lip reactions after wearing the color for a few hours. HOWEVER
You know there is always a however.
However, the formula may be so pigmented that one may wish to apply a light lip balm as a base before applying the lipstick. ALSO. For those more ...ahem...mature ladies (myself included) you may have the rare experience of having every line in your lip accentuated if you apply this lip color to dry unprepped lips. That was my first experience and it was ghastly. I removed the lip color, applied a balm and then applied the lip color with a lip brush and got this result:
|applied with lip brush over lip balm|
But knowing that many women hate apply lip color with a brush (I don't, but I've read enough complaints here to know that I'm in the minority) I decided to apply the Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color directly from the tube but only after prepping my lips with a very light lip balm. The result:

Yep. This formula wore like a dream and looked even better! Look how in and how now that color is! And even if PeachyCoralSalmons don't float your boat there are many other colors to choose from. (Rose Blossom, Heather Pink or Plum Rose is looking to be one of my next purchases)
Do you NEED this: Well I never thought I would say this about a Bobbi Brown Lip Color...but YES! Wonderful formula. Great quality and pretty colors makes THIS an excellent addition to your lip wardrobe. Now just so you know, Sweet Nectar isn't available for sale on the Bobbi Brown website. It is available for PRE-ORDER from NeimanMarcus.com and is expected to ship on or around 3/25/2011. But please note Neiman Marcus has MISSPELLED the name and it is showing up as Sweet Necter...with an E instead of Sweet Nectar with it's rightful A..but it is the same color. Oh and the Bobbi Brown rep hinted that some new lip glosses would be coming out with a doe foot applicator which would completely rick my world (since I'm not a fan of the Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss brush). WIN!
