Estee Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in Nectarine Review Pictures Swatches

I love red lipstick.  Heck I have 35 entries (including this one) on red lips in this blog alone!, Until I dyed my hair red, I was a blue based red lipstick kinda gal. I shied away from the warmer tones of red because, well I thought I just look rather garish on me. But after coloring my hair, I noticed that the cooler toned reds looked kind of out of place on me. That's when I turned to my stash of GWP (Gift With Purchase) lipsticks. I have a hard time getting rid of makeup so it would only stand to reason that I have an arsenal of GWP lipsticks stashed away in my home. I dug through and found a few nice shades but what I really wanted was an every day red. Then I found it. Estee Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in Nectarine.

I quickly looked up the shade on line to make sure that it was still in production. You see, the last thing I want to do is fall in love with a lipstick only to find out that it is no longer being made. (I'm looking at you MAC Rubia) Thankfully it is still in production. I threw caution to the wind and started to use that lipstick on a daily basis.

What I found after wearing Estee Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in Nectarine was:

a) This orange red color was absolutely the perfect warm red without being too neon.
b) The color wore well and faded evenly without leaving that dreaded lipstick ring of death (LROD) around my mouth.
c) The lipstick could be sheered out without compromising the color for days when a more subtle red lip was in order.
d) I would eventually need to order a full size/regular version of this color and I was A-OK with that.

So what's so great about the color?

Aside from it being an orange red, it has gold shimmer infused in the color.  This gold shimmer adds for a certain depth of color which makes the lipstick look more in unison with my lips than just sitting on top of my lips..  The gold shimmer also softens the look of the red making it not so harsh as other red lipsticks in my collection.

The formula is the same great Pure Color Long Lasting formula. It's well pigmented. It glides on effortlessly, it lasts a decent amount of time without needing touch ups. It has the familiar fig scent of Estee Lauder lipsticks but it's not overpowering and it doesn't dry out my lips like other long lasting lipstick like to do.

Do you NEED this?  Well YES, if you are looking for a nice office friendly warm red, that can be glammed up with a bit of gloss for the evening. The color is awesome, the price at $24 is right, and the formula is superb!

What about you?  Have you ever found a GWP lipstick or gloss that you fell in love with and considered or actually did purchase a regular size version?  If so, what color/brand was it?

  1. You know if you asked me in July...I would've said no. But now...yes! I got this No7 makeup bag filled with samples and one was a lipstick I gave a try one day and it's this perfect "my lips but better" shade of pinkish red and for the life of me I can't recall it...petal or something like that. I really like it and need to get the full sized version ASAP!

  2. Yes, and strangely enough it was also Estee Lauder! The Pure Color Crystal Lipstick in Crystal Pink. Sadly it's been discontinued now, so I only have my backups :(
P.S. I very much enjoy your blog, you should make more money, so you can buy more makeup and write more about it : )

  4. dailypolish: Ooh that sounds pretty. Better get a full size before they stop making it!

Bee Strasz: Another EL lip color! Crystal Pink. I think I remember that one. I wonder if you can find a dupe somewhere. And I LOVE your comment about making more $$ to buy more MU. So cute! A friend suggested I respond with "Donations are always welcome." LOL Trust me. I wish I made more money AND had more time to review. Thanks for the comment!

Jamilla: Ooh I have not tried the ones w/ the creamy centers yet. I plan to some time this week...I hope!

  5. I am beyond in love with Clinique's gloss in Stellar Plum, which I got as a GWP package several years ago. It is STILL my absolute favorite.

And that is really saying something, because I am a total slut for GWP. It's almost impossible for me to resist the siren song of a bag of "free" makeup.

  6. I'm only half joking when I say that I would make a donation. I read your blog every day, you are funny as shit, your ads are unobtrusive and don't expand when my cursor even vaguely heads in their direction. I also enjoy the mix of high and low end products reviewed. Now that I'm done kissing ass ... back to work so I can earn $$ and buy more makeup ...

  7. I haven't found a GWP lipstick that I fell in love with, but I recently fell in love with Chanel's Rouge Allure LE in "Rouge Byzantin"... I feel I need to hoard that lipstick away before they stop making it! I really love it.

  9. I love Nectarine! Got it as part of an Estee Lauder gift set. I was using it a lot this Summer for the orange lips trend. Yea, it's a work safe shade for sure.

  10. If I still have Nectarine, I'll send it to you. I never wear it because I think it is not quite right for me.

I think one of the few times I got a GWP then bought a "full size" was Clinique "A Different Rose" which was a perfect subtle red. It was my gateway back into reds after I got scared out of wearing them in high school. I did find a sample of Dark & Lovely's lipstick in Sangria, went back and bought 10 more bullets (they were at a junk shop for 10 cents each) and then actually bought two tubes when the cosmetic line was being disc'd.

Clinique had a cream blush in a color called "Sweet Cheeks". It was perfect! I went back and bought a full size (GWP time of course, where I got another GWP Sweet Cheeks). They discontinued that line of cream blush soon after.

  11. Wow. I, too, just pulled this baby out of hibernation in the makeup bag stash GWP I got a while back. I love this color and never really wore it. I also decided to start wearing it. Such a great color. :-)

  12. I usually give the GWP lipsticks to my MIL. However, I decided to try this one and I was very happy I did. I also kept the bronze one. They are the only GWP lipsticks I own.

  14. A "friendly warm red" sounds perfect. I love the way it looks on your lips. I don't believe that I've ever tried a red from Estee Lauder, so thank you for the post! x
