I love red lipstick. Heck I have 35 entries (including this one) on red lips in this blog alone!, Until I dyed my hair red, I was a blue based red lipstick kinda gal. I shied away from the warmer tones of red because, well I thought I just look rather garish on me. But after coloring my hair, I noticed that the cooler toned reds looked kind of out of place on me. That's when I turned to my stash of GWP (Gift With Purchase) lipsticks. I have a hard time getting rid of makeup so it would only stand to reason that I have an arsenal of GWP lipsticks stashed away in my home. I dug through and found a few nice shades but what I really wanted was an every day red. Then I found it. Estee Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in Nectarine.
I quickly looked up the shade on line to make sure that it was still in production. You see, the last thing I want to do is fall in love with a lipstick only to find out that it is no longer being made. (I'm looking at you MAC Rubia) Thankfully it is still in production. I threw caution to the wind and started to use that lipstick on a daily basis.
What I found after wearing Estee Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in Nectarine was:
a) This orange red color was absolutely the perfect warm red without being too neon.
b) The color wore well and faded evenly without leaving that dreaded lipstick ring of death (LROD) around my mouth.
c) The lipstick could be sheered out without compromising the color for days when a more subtle red lip was in order.
d) I would eventually need to order a full size/regular version of this color and I was A-OK with that.
So what's so great about the color?
Aside from it being an orange red, it has gold shimmer infused in the color. This gold shimmer adds for a certain depth of color which makes the lipstick look more in unison with my lips than just sitting on top of my lips.. The gold shimmer also softens the look of the red making it not so harsh as other red lipsticks in my collection.
The formula is the same great Pure Color Long Lasting formula. It's well pigmented. It glides on effortlessly, it lasts a decent amount of time without needing touch ups. It has the familiar fig scent of Estee Lauder lipsticks but it's not overpowering and it doesn't dry out my lips like other long lasting lipstick like to do.
Do you NEED this? Well YES, if you are looking for a nice office friendly warm red, that can be glammed up with a bit of gloss for the evening. The color is awesome, the price at $24 is right, and the formula is superb!
What about you? Have you ever found a GWP lipstick or gloss that you fell in love with and considered or actually did purchase a regular size version? If so, what color/brand was it?
