Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Creme Lipstick in Whisper Review Pictures Swatches

Back in January I told you about my first foray into the Hourglass lipstick world.  Not much of a "world", as there are only 12 shades, but I digress.  The shade I brought you 9 months ago was Embrace, a warm plum with copper reflects.  Today I bring you another shade from this small collection, Whisper.  How aptly named this shade is.  It is a mere whisper of color on the lips. I'm not saying that it is sheer, I'm saying that to look at my lips you would find yourself wondering if I'm wearing lipstick at all.  The shade looks so natural on me it's like My Lips But Better (MLBB)!

I love doing a smoky eye and what better lipstick to pair with that smoky eye than a nude lipstick.  Well my darlings. Behold.

A golden pink beige with shimmer, this nude lipstick leaves my lips soft and hydrated all day long. Even after it has worn off my lips still feel soft.  infused with Vitamin E and jojoba oil, this plush lipstick delivers beautiful color, shine and softness with every stroke.  The lipstick is Paraben, Sulfate, Synthetic Dye and Phthalate FREE. No nasty harmful chemicals on your lips...which you ingest anyway.  Oh and by the way. The "Average" woman does NOT ingest 4-5 pounds of lipstick in her lifetime.  Check out this article HERE.

The Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick is shaped with a square tip. It doesn't follow the shape of your lips like most traditional lipstick bullets, but the square tip is nice for precise application using a lip brush. You can still apply directly from the tube and you can even use the flat end of the lipstick to make a pseudo lip line to fill in.  The trademark hourglass embossed into the lipstick bullet itself, adds that attention to detail that I adore in lipstick.

One more nice thing about the Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick is the case. It's a hefty brown metallic with a golden "Hourglass" in an Arts & Crafts font engraved on the side.  The case is as much of a piece of artworks as the lipstick itself.  Now wouldn't it be a shame when you finished your lipstick (Yes NORMAL people actually finish lipsticks) to throw that case away?  Well fret not my beauties.  This lipstick case is REFILLABLE!  You simply purchase a replacement cartridge for abut $6 less than the original lipstick, snap it into place and you are ready to go again.  And no rules apply to changing your mind about a color when you are done with one.  Simply purchase a different color refill and snap it into the empty case...just don't forget the new name in case you want to pick up another one or are complimented on the shade and need to tell people what color it is.  Trust me. you will get compliments.

Hi.  My name is Pink Sith and I have a Nude Lipstick Addiction.

Admitting that you have a problem is the first step...so they say.  Although I have admitted that I have a red lipstick addiction for many years now and that has not slowed me down.  I might have become a tad more discerning but I still am purchasing red lipstick like it was going outta style.  Well Nude lipstick is another problems for me.  It seems that I like extremes.

I'm quite fond on "Nude" or MLBB shades.  In fact, when I was doing comparison swatches I had to stop at 5 comparisons or else my whole arm might be full of nude pink, beige pink and light mauve pink lipsticks. As you can see below the Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick in Whisper is only similar to Estee Lauder Pinkberry but even then, the formula is so different.

Do you NEED this?  Well yes. YES!  If not in Whisper, perhaps in any of the other 11 colors in the line. Embrace is pretty and I believe my next purchase will be for Raven which is a Vibrant Orange Red!!  The Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick comes in 12 pigmented colors and retails for $30 and it's refillable for $24!

  2. lovely! the refillable touch is quite nice!

It would be great if you could rank your nude lipsticks sometime in order of best to worst. Or just pick which ones have the best cost performance.

  4. What a beautiful shade! I've always wanted to try Hourglass lipsticks but I've been holding back since I heard these easily break, and the climate is very warm here.

  7. I, too, have a nude lipstick addiction this year. However, I want the nude to be a pink-nude, not an orange-nude. I decided, from some of your other favorites, that Whisper would be a color I would also like and headed to Sephora as soon as I read your post. I love the color and the feel of the lipstick and also really like the look and feel of the case (like all other Hourglass products). Thanks for the great tip!

  9. I was scouting for an orange red lipstick and I tried 3 different brands...All of them were orangy in tint but I asked the beauty consultant to look for a shinier smoothy effect instead of a matte finish which looked dry. I ended up getting the hourglass raven and loved it! It is my first time to use hourglass brand. A bit pricy but I am happy :)-michelle
